Woman-owned, longtime Tucson Coffee shop moved to my side of town and no one told me! Lol. They've been in this new (ish) location in a strip mall for about 2 years. Great purple & green theme. Who knew I'd find a coffee drink I've never tried (gasp) - an Italian Fresca! Espresso on ice with soda water, choice of syrup & zip of whipped cream. Cool, coffee forward goodness! Also, had a big asx lemon bar for $3.00. Big enough to share. The woman who mage our drinks was super friendly & we enjoyed the whole experience. Better priced than corporate cofffee. So happy that the Chocolate Iguana is back and now it's on the northwest side of town. It's like a charming cafe with purple decor, which happens to be my favorite color! I was immediately greeted and took the time to look around for a moment of nostalgia with their candy aisle. There is a fantastic selection of pastries both gluten free and regular. You also have your choice of bagels, ice cream and made to order sandwiches. I ordered the ube muffin (purple) and an everything bagel. Both were magnificent! For my drink I ordered an iced vanilla coffee. I am so glad to have Chocolate Iguana so close to me!!!! Let's continue to support local! read more

They tell me their sandwiches are excellent, but I have yet to make it past the chocolate truffles and caffe mochas. It's nice to sit and chat for a while because then you can keep going back to try a different candy. Drove by this little mom and pop coffee shop (we love supporting non chain places). My caffe mocha (double espresso) was really good (much better and so much less sweet than Starbucks). Enjoyed coffee and breakfast here with some neighbor ladies. The staff was very polite, and efficient. She cleared our plates as soon as we were done, which was nice since we sat and chatted a bit. Would you like some coffee with your sugar? At Chocolate Iguana, you've got a candy store and an ice cream parlor with a few iced/blended espresso options tossed in. Even their signature item, *the* chocolate iguana takes espresso & ice cream, then adds even more chocolate to it. It is, in my kindest terms, a rather juvenile menu, but it's not like I didn't enjoy my mocha. As others have noted, it looks a bit empty and unkempt in here. I hope a resurgence in foot traffic this spring gives them an opportunity to replenish their inventory, dust the place off, and live up to their vision of a charming cafe. read more

Stop by really quick this morning, to grab some pastries and some coffee. I was surprised when I walking to the coffee shop to see that low of a business closing down. When it was really cute before had all their candies set up in glass jars so you could see, everything was empty and look dirty. I'm not sure if they are renovating or if they are getting ready to go out of business. Purchased a chocolate milk a café mocha and a chocolate chip muffin. The shelves were pretty empty. There wasn't much to choose from today. I hope they're staying in business I hope that everyone could start going back and giving them your local business to keep them here. I drove out of my way to visit this little gem. I love local coffee shops. This is my least favorite in Arizona. Walking in is like a step back in time to 2019. No covid precautions at all. No problem, I was only ordering to go. The shelves were maybe 1/3 full, the bakery case also a bit sparse mid morning. I ordered a snickerdoodle iced latte and a turnover. The turnover pastry had that frozen char taste to it and was slightly undercooked. The latte was a powerful hit of cinnamon and sugar. I get that it's a snickerdoodle beverage, but my tongue should not recoil from cinnamon with every sip. Completely covering any coffee flavor. I wish I had better things to report but I doubt I'll be back. read more

Nice little family owned place on a busy strip of 4th Avenue. I came here craving some warm tea, and ended up buying a hot chocolate and a pumpkin scone. Both were pretty decent. There are quite a lot of different sweets for sale here. They are a bit overpriced in comparison to other places, but hey it's a local business, so one must expect that most things here would be sold at more of a premium. Customer service here is great. The girls who work here clearly have tried many of the items they offer, and usually have a good recommendation on hand. Not a bad place, all things considered. read more

I have had a terrible experience with customer service there the past two times. Not only do they hardly have any of their baked goods anymore, but I went in a few months ago and stood there for ten minutes while the chick behind the counter just didn't acknowledge me and continued to have a full on conversation with the person in front of me, not even about their order. I left because I was sick of standing 10 minutes without so much as a "I'll be right with you or hello" to order a drink and not even get the pastry I wanted... Today I called ahead to see if they had their maple walnut scones so I didn't waste my time again and the girl over the phone says " no I haven't had time to make scones" I asked simply will you have them later? "Um maybe" was her answer very bothered by me wanting to buy scones. Wow. Way to show pride in your product and someone asking for it. You just lost a long time customer, I've been coming to the Iguana for the past 15 years and this did not make me want to come back. Hire courteous people who acknowledge customers and actually put your product out there with pride, and welcoming energy. Even if the service completely sucked like it does, but you had the baked goods as you're well known for I'd come back. But why would I if you never have the product I'm looking to buy and your employee's people skills downright suck? read more

Had the signature chocolate iguana dessert ($4.50). It was a large portion of double mocha with generous scoops of mint ice cream in the center. It was topped with chocolate drizzled whipped cream with a thin chocolate stick (AKA iguana tail) on top. Quite a lot going on in this dessert! While I enjoyed each separate component, I'm not sure I totally liked the entire dessert as a whole. I do appreciate the creativity though! Service was fast and friendly. I don't know what has happened to Chocolate Iguana. We haven't been there since they relocated, but my husband and kids were shopping on 4th Ave. and stopped to buy some candy. All of the chocolate candy was old, stale and turning white. The Bit-O-Honey, a childhood favorite of mine, was so old I couldn't even eat it. It was literally as hard as a rock. Everything bought had to be thrown away as it was all inedible. I'm sorry to say this because we've bought their candy for years, but we won't be back. read more

Stopped for coffee early morning on a Saturday. No one but the coffee girl. I was definitely excited to see they make coffee with Illy ... my favorite from Italy. I had a cappuccino to go. Noticed that there was Illy sugar packets. Those two definitely put a smile on my face. The shop is definitely interesting to look at while waiting for my coffee. I wish I could have brought some chocolate but I knew it would melt on the way home. I'd definitely stop back through when I'm in town again. read more

I do believe Chocolate Iguana earns the distinction for the 100th review! I went through all of my bookmarks and this one by far wins the award! I cannot believe I've waited oh.....too long to try this place out. I pass it all of the time. Perhaps its just the inconvenience of trying to find parking just to get some java. But I do believe I won't be worrying so much about the parking next time, rather awaiting the excellent coffee as well as the bag of chocolates to take home and chow on. This place is absolutely stupendous! I am so so in love with everything about Chocolate Iguana, and I agree with Corey D. ...suck it Russel Stover!! I went to get coffee but ended up coming home with about $15 worth of candy and chocolate to "share" with the family. Candy Lego's for the boy. Chocolate covered peanut butter balls for the girl, chocolate, caramel, pecan clusters for me. Dark chocolate espresso beans for me. And a few more things for....well you guessed it. Me. To share with the hubs of course. Their gift shop is amazing as well. Adorable things you can't really find elsewhere. 50's memorabilia, Illy's Coffee stuff. You gotta love it! I cannot wait till the weather cools and I can go sit on the corner of 4th and 6th enjoying my chocolate...I mean my coffee....and doing some serious people watching while trying to figure out what is new on the wall mural across the street. This place has panache-and excellent espresso and coffee. I splurged and ordered an orange glazed chocolate chip scone and let me tell you I'm glad I did! I used to be a baker so when I walked into the cute little cafe and smelled the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen I just knew ... The owners were working and she asked if I wanted it heated and I said whatever you think. So it was heated slightly and YES, get it heated. I believe they put it in a toaster oven or something but it was superb. And I'm a picky scone reviewer (doughy scones or heavy/dense, brick-like scones just annoy me so I rarely order them now because so many places get them wrong-not this place) but these were light and fluffy inside and crispy outside. You could SEE the flecks of orange zest (another sign of a great scone) and finally, golden brown and crusty on the outside with a glaze that was fragrant, also zested, and not too sweet. While I was there s couple students from the nearby Tucson HS came in to order and you could tell the locals love this place-and their owners-as well. Very cool candy store/wall on side wall too for those who like a big selection. I'll be back. The only mistake was my latte was hot instead of the iced I asked for - but it was still delicious with the scone so I'll call it a happy accident. This place rocks. read more

Stopped by for coffee and a scone this morning. My americano was dark and the I didn't need creamer for it to taste fresh. The scone was crunchy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside as it should always be! We love this place and the wall of chocolates is so amazing if you have a sweet craving. read more

4th Avenue is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat. It's right up there with South Tucson's wonderful Mexican fare. Here on 4th we have the B-Line, Epic Cafe, Brooklyn Pizza, Bison Witches and now the Chocolate Iguana. Today I tried to get into Lindy's but it was way full of lunching customers so I trekked on up to the Chocolate Iguana. And oh, my what a delightful discovery that was! Their tuna sandwich just nudged Choice Greens out of first place. What a tasty, delicious sandwich with bean sprouts, oregano, and almonds added. Their black bean salad came covered in tortilla chips and was ultra fresh and loaded with veggies and a very tasty salad dressing. I had one of their frosted sugar cookies for dessert and it was the shortbread style but very good. Their pastry offerings were amazing. This will be such a delightful place to eat outside on the corner when the weather cools down. I'm really glad Lindy's was packed today! read more

Cute, kitschy shop on 4th. The barista when I stopped by knew how to make a really really superb latte. It was perfect; just wish it was more accessible without dealing with all of the icky traffic and crappy parking; or if it was open just a bit earlier so I could swing by and pick up some coffee before I head to work (they open at 7am). I had an espresso chip scone while I was there; it is definitely complementary to a good cuppa joe, BUT on its own, it was a bit lackluster. I had a few clumps where I could really taste the espresso icing, but didn't get the full effect the entire time. The scone was incredibly moist and... I would probably get it again. hah. possibly my fave coffee shop in tucson so far... with bonus points for not being a hipster magnet! read more
