In my opinion, this is the best Mexican bakery in Tucson. The shop is clean and you can even see the staff baking in the back, which I really enjoy. I love stopping by on weekends for a fresh, warm concha. It's also a great spot to pick up sweet treats for work since the prices are very reasonable. I've never had any issues with service and everything always looks well-stocked and freshly made, especially in the mornings. Great spot!
I was so excited to try a lot Estrella bakery because my favorite coffee shop is nearby. It was a really long line to get in the door and several items in the cabinet were sold out so I thought it would be amazing. I tried a couple items and I really wasn't impressed by any of them. The pastries were too sweet and kind of dense without enough filling for my preference :(
Favorite place for baked goods. Best empanadas and cochitos available! I like my cochitos a couple of days old....dunk them in my coffee. Better than biscotti, only way to fly..... The nice thing about this location is the courtyard. Presta Coffee, Seis, Agustin Kitchen, are all right there. Busy spot but not long wait time.... Staff always smiling and helpful. Always a good sign. Terrific people watching too! Thursday afternoon is the farmers market which is a little smaller this time of year, but autumn is just around the corner! If you are a fan of the fruit empanadas I do recommend getting there early. That flavor is extremely popular and sells out quickly. However there are other flavors to choose from.... Cherry, and apple, pineapple... you get the idea. See you there!
I got a slice of cake from here at Bavarian cream and crushed peppermint on the icing. I was so excited to eat it, but when I opened the bag, I was shocked to find the slice of cake was just thrown in there, no wrapping, no box.. nothing. Because of this, the cake was extremely dry when I ate it. This really took away from the cake I feel. Who knows if it was delicious or not. all I know is I would not eat that again.
Always a good time when I pop in here. Beautiful and delicious treats. Friendly staff. I like to pop in here and get the mini donuts on my way to work (chocolate, glaze, sugar)
Darn. This is kind of place that gives my blood sugar nightmares, but holy cow is it GOOD. The bakery items are made on site, super fresh and amazing. Walked out with a bag and sat next door with a cup of coffee and enjoyed one of my gingerbread and molasses cookies. Everything I could do to not open my bag and eat the rest of what I bought. Cookie was beautifully flavored, not overpowering and the molasses added a nice finish. And it was soft, like melt-in-your-mouth soft. Estrella Bakery part of the little Mercado shopping courtyard in Tucson. Good parking across street in front and behind location. Short walk (less than 2 mins) puts you in the courtyard. There are a couple restaurants and shops around the courtyard making for a great experience. Tables all outside in the courtyard to enjoy a nice day. Bakery and coffee employees very friendly. I'm honestly thinking I'd drive down again from San Tan Valley just to go here ... it's that good. If you are in Tucson for any reason, I'd confidently say the bakery is a MUST STOP. I got half a bag of bakery goods for $8. You can't beat it.
We've tried several donut shops in the area and it seems that after the 1st day, they are hard as a rock. Not so with La Estrella donuts. They are so tender and don't need a lot of embellishment. I really like them plain or rolled in sugar. They are so tender and delicious and we can enjoy them over several days without them becoming inedible. The staff are always so kind and they love encouraging us to try new treats. Absolutely, love this place. You can tell that everything is made fresh and with love. My hubby makes a run every couple of weeks to ensure we have them on hand with our coffee in the morning.
New location for this well-known Tucson bakery, inside the Mercado San Augustin located in downtown. Nice selection of Mexican and American pastries. Both the corn and flour tortillas they sell here are totally legit. I liked both, but the flour ones are AWESOME! Friendly service. It's a small casual spot with a just a few tables inside, and plenty of outdoor seating.
Ok so not a vegan stop , butttttttt they have some really yummy vegan snacks ! I LOVE the chickpea chicharrones!
Wonderful Mexican bakery! Such delicious baked goods for a great value. I went to the location in the Mercado San Augustin, which was so pleasant in the early morning when they first open. I love seeing such a beautiful bounty of tasty goods! Especially when they're fresh out the oven. Very authentic taste per treat. The staff was also friendly and helpful. Looking forward to getting another box of another assortment!

Coming from California, Estrella blew me away with their prices. $1 per pan?? Wild. At those prices, we got a smattering of course: cuernitos, puerquito, elote, and a few conchas. They have a lot more here too so I can't wait to come back and try even more. I love the location of this Estrella because it's in this cute Mercado with lots of shops and a coffee shop so you can go grab some bread, a coffee, and enjoy your goodies in the open courtyard. Parking also is pretty decent, there's a lot and also some side street parking. read more

moved to Texas three years ago, but every time I'm back in town, I have to stop here and grab a box of pan dulce. My boys and I absolutely love their bread -- it's become a must every visit. In my opinion, San Antonio just doesn't have anything quite like this... or maybe we just haven't found it yet. Either way, we love La Estrella. It's one of those places that's really left a mark on me over the years and continues to be a special tradition for my family. read more

My guy and I got multiple items from here and each one was mouthwateringly delicious! We even went back for more because the price was too good not to. I honestly don't believe you can go wrong with any pastry you get from here. My only critique is that I wish they had signs posted telling you what each item was. Such a hidden little gem and soo worth the stop! read more

I'm sure there's something missing for someone that wouldn't give us a five star review but for me the localized selection the very friendly photo of the service team and the excellent fresh goods big courtyard to sit down and enjoy and reasonable prices set this apart lotta items and choose from it is a small space when you walk in, but they keep people movinghighly recommend for a quick treat and some coffee read more

Just moved to Tucson and was in search for a delicious bakery and this place is it!! I'm very picky when it comes to sweet bread, but the pastries here are amazing. My husband just bought me some donuts for my birthday and employees were very sweet and helpful! read more

I got charged for an it that I did not buy the "spinach tortillas" the worst part was that I did not look at my receipt until hours later after I got home. Just check your receipts ... I have been to places that charge an extra item so that they later return as tip! read more
We stopped in at 12:15 pm on 12/23/22. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. We got 4 pastries and it came out to $5! Amazing! The best by far was the donut. The cream cheese pastry cake in second. The pumpkin empanada tasted like baby food. The gingerbread pig actually didn't taste too strongly of gingerbread. It was a little hard around the edges too. I would go back just for the donut and I would try other pastries too! read more

We stumbled upon this cute bakery tucked in the corner of the Mercado San Augustin (MSA). There was a short line at noon which piqued our curiosity. There was a wrap-around glass display case of Mexican baked goods. I recognized concha and empanadas. Based on an article from Food & Wine on display, this place was known for donuts. When I spied 2 remaining in the case, I quickly snagged them along with a chocolate concha and a pig-shaped gingerbread cookies (recommendations from the server). The donut was delicious... it had the texture of a cake-donut but was still light and airy. The chocolate concha was moist. The cookie was soft and had the right amount of ginger and spice. We ended up going back to try the regular concha and 2 more cookies!! read more

Paid over $140 for this cake and I put the characters on it so it wouldn't look so bad. The work was sloppy and rushed. As you can see the chocolate covered strawberries are slapped together and the cherry too. The drip, the icing... it just wasn't at all what I asked for and the execution was not worth the money. It'd be one thing if the cake itself was good but the cake wasn't anything special either. Never again will I go back here. It's safe to say I got ripped off. I would be embarrassed to give this to a client and take money for it knowing I didn't give someone quality. Save your money. Make the cake yourself. *I believe they tried to report this review to take it down. This is my honest review. read more
