Cute country place for breakfast/brunch which is larger inside then you would realize. They also have a lot of tables outside on the side that is also not noticeable right away. Nice menu with creative interesting choices. My husband enjoyed an egg platter with eggs made the way he wanted, country ham, & excellent bread that was grilled instead of toasted. Eggs taste like they are from a local farm as well as the ham - score! I enjoyed a frittata with a side salad - excellent. Becky and Kate are incredibly kind and the muffins are delicious. My favorite is the Morning Glory muffin. When I stopped in, they made me feel welcomed and like I was in Stars Hollow (for the Gilmore Girls fans). I'll definitely be back and hope to try some of the breakfast and lunch dishes. I live and brunch in NYC all the time and I really wish Bex had a location in Manhattan because this is some of the best brunch I've had. LEMON POPPY SEED PANCAKES This literally tastes like a cake. It's magical. I'm not big on sweet things for breakfast, but I would definitely get this again. SHAKSHUKA Flavorful and hot - the shakshuka was definitely a hit! PROSCIUTTO AND FIG SANDWICH The saltiness of the prosciutto is well balanced by the sweetness of the fig. Lovely sandwich! QUICHE DE JOUR A quiche with a crispy, flaky crust that made for a warm, savory breakfast. I also recommend the pastries. The croissant in particular was very good. If you like your cookies crunchy and a little chewy, I would grab some of those too. The service was warm and welcoming and I will definitely be back (maybe for their supper club. I've only been once, but will for sure be back. They had a sign saying they were working with a 'limited' menu for some reason, but I found plenty of options for lunch. It seems like my prior post from many months ago was erased. So I will review once again. I find nothing appealing to Bex. I must have waited over half an hour for my food. Grant it the place got packed with tourists (cyclist coming into town) but for moments like these you have to be prepared. It was my first and last time in there. They were so disorganized. They couldn't handle the crowds clearly. I also attended a fundraiser where they catered the event and the food was sub par. They should never try to do a Mexican food station again. I met the owner that night and I couldn't even compliment her. Update 2016: decided to give it another shot. Again, horrible horrible customer service. Not one smile to greet me. I waited for help for some time and there was no crowd this time. Then I got scolded by a worker for where I parked my car. It wasn't illegal and there were no signs. Had she approached me differently I would have moved my car and apologized, but she didn't. So I waited a long time for my food, told her when my food comes out I will leave. And I did and vowed never ever to return. The food was not bad btw but not worth going back for. read more

I want to love Bex. There's not much going on in Hunterdon County so the 20 minute drive to this quaint eatery would be worth it if something, anything, was unique. The meals I've had there always sound much better on the menu than they look and taste on a plate in front of you. But again for Hunterdon County the bar is set low. Call me nitpicky, but the actual straw that broke my back was getting charged for a coffee refill. I'm by no means cheap, but when everyone and their mother offer free refills (especially helpful with Bex's longer than acceptable food waits) you must follow suit. Those small Ikea cups just don't hold much to begin with. So I guess I'll stick to the diners out here until something worthwhile comes along. read more

After a relatively long walk on the adjacent Columbia Trail, we stopped here for brunch. Was actually looking for lunch and a sandwich but they only do brunch on Sundays. Wife had a salad and it was delicious. Forgot the name but had cheese, apple strips, candied walnuts and mixed greens. She loved it. I opted for the ricotta pancakes. They were spectacular. Light, tasty and with the real maple syrup a total delight. Service was excellent and now my wife is looking forward to the coming supper club. read more

I discovered this place one day when I was casually riding my bicycle. Came back a few weeks later and ever since I have been visiting this lovely place at least once a month. Breakfast is great, lunch is amazing, and brunch is out-of-this-world. Not sure what ever happened to the ricotta poppy seeds lemon pancakes though. I used to love Bex, especially for Sunday Brunch. Then they closed for a period but reopened. However after they reopened they haven't been the same. Their opening hours have been restricted. Their menu has become sooo limited and they are pricey (especially their espresso drinks). So for the price I'm not willing to settle. However, their staff is so super friendly. I wish they would expand their menu again. read more

BEX Kitchen is awesome....It's the perfect place to sit and catch up with friends. We stopped in for lunch today...I had Chicken Salad sand. and a side of Quinoa salad - The chicken salad was AMAZING - it had fresh apples and cranberries and I believe walnuts as well...Everything was perfectly blended. I have never had Quinoa salad before and i was sooooo impressed with the way it was made...Curry (never had that before) as well as cut up Mango in it - If you love Quinoa - def have to try that...I know I will have it again. Also i found the staff VERY friendly and they always came by the table to see if we needed anything else. The place gets better and better every time i stop in. Thanks for an awesome Visit BEX!!! Bex is my go-to for a delicious breakfast or lunch. The menu is creative and the food is prepared with local, often times organic ingredients. My favorites are the Bex burrito and curry chicken salad sandwich. My kids love croissants and Bex makes by far the best in the area. They are light, flaky, buttery and delicious. I am surprised to read that a Yelper perceived the Bex staff as unfriendly and annoyed by kids. The staff is lovely. They are warm, friendly and helpful. I have two small children and they are greeted with big smiles, given drinks in cute milk bottle kids cups, and slipped samples of desserts. read more

I cannot say enough about the food at BEX Kitchen. The chef, Becky, is simply outstanding and blends freshness to refined, delicate and truly amazingly flavorful tastes! The menu is always mouthwatering, and tasting it will certainly blow you away! She will make the effort to select her produce locally, she is hugely versatile in what she can make and has a wide array of knowledge that she will gladly share with you. Her cooking is more European, hence leaner, flavorful and a sure hit for anyone with a passion for true flavors. Becky is terrific a hidden treasure of the area -make sure to stop by if you're around! The only reason why I'm unfortunately holding back my review to 3-stars is that we hired their service for catering and, sadly, we did not have the best experience with them for the organizational aspect of the event. Unfortunately, there were many unforeseen outcomes and the costs were not properly broken down. Granted, we do not cater often so we may not be familiar with the common customs of it. However, more guidance would have made everything so much better and would have prevented the heartburns we had when we saw the bill. I would still recommend them to anyone interested in stopping by for a bite or for their catering services. If you do hire them for catering, simply ask as many questions as necessary until you feel fully comfortable and make sure that you truly understand everything that is being presented to you (especially the bill). I'm dearly hoping that this last part of my review will not be applicable soon enough as I'm thinking that this was maybe just a mishap due to a learning process. My husband had an omelet with roasted tomatoes and thyme which was strangely symmetrical, rubbery, and tasted like they had microwaved the eggs. I had the spicy chicken wrap. The chicken was dry and tough and without the salsa would have been inedible. And to add insult to injury, it's expensive. On the plus side, the staff is cheerful and the room is pleasant. read more

I was very disappointed to learn that Bex no longer serves dinner. As noted on my 3/22/13 feedback, I thought the food was very good. I suspect they stopped serving dinner due to low turnout. However, I never saw Ben doing any advertising that they served dinner. Everything appeared to be word-of-mouth. That does not work in Califon and surrounding areas. Bex needs to advertise. You gotta spend a few bucks to make lots of bucks. Bad decision to end dinner. read more

Great place to stop and have lunch at. The salads and sandwiches are all made fresh. The chicken salad on a croissant is very tasty.

The food was good, but I wish the waitress had warned me of how incredibly small my salad was going to be. It was my lunch, not an appetizer, and came in a very small bowl which would have been a good size for a side salad you get with your meal, not your actual meal. I ate the whole thing in about 3 minutes. Definitely not worth the money. Don't come here if you are hungry, you will leave hungry as well! read more
