Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen was gasping for a strong tea after the day's hustle and bustle in Dublin. Bewley's is the perfect respite! We enjoyed the garlic soup, fantastic salad, a scrumptious lemon/blueberry chiffon cake, and gorgeous pot of tea. Relaxation and a full belly are mine. Thank you! The end.
This cafe has everything. The stained glass windows are lovely and the cafe has a charming, eclectic feel. Desserts were decadent, soup and bread was so tasty. There were good selections of tea and the service was excellent. What more could you ask for?
Delicious tea. I had the Assam tea and it was wonderful. The food was amazing. And the service was great.
A must go to if you are traveling to Dublin! The food was delicious and service was great! I found everywhere while traveling was very attentive to allergies and this was no exception! The restaurant felt like a very nice formal space but you weren't paying formal prices!
Our first meal in Dublin was a full Irish breakfast to share at Bewley's Cafe at the recommendation of a friend. The meal included Kelly's of Newport thick cut dry-cured back bacon, Granby's pork sausages and white pudding, Putóg black pudding, Irish free-range poached eggs, slow-roasted herbed tomatoes, and Bewley's brown soda bread. It was a new experience for us so we decided to share it since we weren't sure what to expect. While I admit, we didn't finish it, we did try a bit of everything, and I'm glad we experienced it. Also while we were here we ordered The Mary Cake to share which is described as a Bewley's classic since the 1950s including rich chocolate ganache, soft sponge layer dipped in pure Valrhona Ariaga dark chocolate, and topped with a thin marzipan disc. It was perfection! Fun fact: Bewley's donates €1 from the sale of every Mary Cake to the Irish Red Cross. To drink I ordered a Calypso (Tia Maria) boozy coffee cocktail (which had a fun presentation and was also very tasty) to give myself a wakeup as our flight was a redeye and before we left I also ordered a takeaway ginger & lemongrass tea. The restaurant was busy just about the entire time we were there, and our waitress was super friendly as well. I kept eyeing the baked good case as we were seated near it - everything looked so good but we only had so much room and more meals planned. Maybe next time!
This was a great spot for breakfast. Service was excellent. Food was served hot and fresh. I enjoyed the Full Irish Breakfast (when in Rome ....). I'd probably pass on the black pudding, but that's just a personal choice. My wife LOVED the Vegetarian Breakfast as she had been craving fresh vegetables ever since we left the United States.
After flying overnight from Boston to Dublin, simply put we needed some good coffee. But why stop there? What if you could find some great coffee with some amazing food options, as well? Well, thanks to Bewley's Cafe we did just that. Bewley's is a great, expansive cafe and the coffee certainly did the trick. It was fresh and brewed perfectly and helped to clean off the cobwebs. Each one of us went with a different breakfast option and not a single complaint was lodged. I went with the scone of the day which was a brilliant raspberry scone and the yogurt parfait which had fresh yogurt, a berry compote, fresh berries and granola expertly displayed in the cup that was fresh and tasted excellent. As I looked around the table, I would have opted for any of the other options that others in the party selected as every single item looked perfect. Great spot right in the heart of Dublin!
This is a vibrant and trendy place on Grafton Street that is ideal for breakfast and afternoon tea. We have eaten here on many visits to Dublin and I'm surprised at myself that I haven't yet reviewed it. The food is delicious. They have perfected their poached eggs. I am also a huge fan of their Irish breakfast tea. The service is also fantastic. We really liked Celine and how attentive she was with us. She made sure we were satisfied and was very kind to us. I highly recommend stopping by here.
The atmosphere of Bewley's is that of an upscale European cafe of years gone by forest green wallpaper with gold Asian inspired motifs accented by magnificent stained glass windows designed by Harry Clarke 1928 combined with the tile floors and wood accents make the interior spectacular and worth 5 stars and a visite alone. The service was prompt and amenable. The food we had was all decent. The portions were ferocious and the quality excellent however not Michelin star. I saw one of their hot chocolates and it was the size of a pint of Guinness. If it weren't for the overall atmosphere I'd rate the food a 3. It was a great time overall and I'd return again for sure.
Awesome landmark that you must seek out while I'm Dublin. Great service, beautiful stained glass decor throughout, truly delicious food and some of the best coffee and tea in Ireland.
Arrived early with only one other customer in the restaurant.. friendly service by all and a delightful start to the day. Had an Irish coffee that leaves me leary of having one anywhere else it was so delightful. For breakfast I ordered the open faced smoked salmon sandwich on the nicest brown bread with capers creme fraische and red onion. Recommend. The waiter suggested lunch is even better.. I have no doubt.
They were open on New Year's morning and the wait for a table wasn't too terrible. Our standards weren't very high that day, since it was a holiday, and most places were still shuttered that early. We did walk up and down Grafton Street, checking out the other breakfast/brunch options (limited) before finally walking into Bewley's. The entrance was stiflingly hot due to the fireplace and overworked central heating. The hostess stand was un-tended, and there were three large groups kind of milling around in front of us. We split up - hubs went to stand in what we thought was the line while I went to try to find someone to help us and the other groups that came in behind us. Once a lady did finally come out, she went to each group in an order that only made sense to her, granting tables to groups that came in last ahead of the groups that had been standing there for a while. One man from a group behind us angrily challenged the lady's system, to which she basically said, "you don't like it, you can leave." We were about to take her up on that (even though that sentiment wasn't directed at us) when another lady came out and told us she had a table for two upstairs that we could take. The second floor turned out to be a bit small, but we had a table on the rail, overlooking the mass of people we'd just left. The waitress was nice enough, but she seemed a bit stressed. I overheard her telling another waitress that they hadn't expected the morning to be quite so busy, so I guess that accounts for that. We both ordered the Bewley's Breakfast (their version of a Full Irish Breakfast), and I ordered us a pot of their signature coffee (doing so gives you just over two cups worth, which makes better fiscal sense than ordering two cups alone). The food turned out to be quite tasty, despite the long wait for it. I would actually say that this was my favorite Irish breakfast of our trip, though my husband's opinion would differ. I enjoyed everything on the plate, including their soda bread, which was dense yet light, with a nice oat/grain flavor. The sausage links had a good meaty flavor, with a nice snap to the skin. The eggs were scrambled - I think that's the first time I've seen that in an Irish breakfast - and the bacon was both moist and crispy. The two roasted cherry tomatoes added a nice acidic and almost sweet flavor to the plate overall, and I really enjoyed their black and white puddings. If it wasn't for the terrible greeting when first walking in, I would have given this place 5 stars. The food, waitress and overall vibe of the building itself definitely picked up the slack of the first hostess.
One of the few restaurants that actually opens early--and by early, I mean 8 a.m.! If this is your first breakfast in Ireland, I highly recommend trying the full Irish breakfast. I also tried the avocado toast, which was just all right. The toppings were fine, but the bread was a little soggy. I've heard they change the toppings from time to time, so it may be different depending on when you visit. Their pastries are delicious as well. I tried the cinnamon roll, which, to my surprise, doesn't come with frosting but is instead served with butter. One thing to keep in mind: if you arrive right when they open, some of the bakery items may not be ready yet. I had to wait a bit for the cinnamon rolls to be ready. The staff was kind and helpful, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. It did start getting busier toward the end of my meal, but overall, a great spot for an early breakfast. read more

The cafe is located in the original teahouse on Grafton Street. The building has beautiful woodwork and stained glass. The front has a counter to buy boxes and bags of tea. It also has takeaway for tea/coffee and pastries. A small bar counter is by the front window and looks out onto Grafton Street. The staff person explained the different types of tea. Tea comes both loose and teabags. He also gave me a complementary cup of tea and a biscuit so I could try one of the flavors. It had just started raining so I sat in one of the seats by the window and watch the rain and people watch. It was an enjoyable break from my day of sightseeing. The tea is very good. Of course, I had to buy both a box of teabags and some loose tea to bring home. read more

One of the best cups of coffee I've ever had. A delightful and charming atmosphere with very friendly baristas. The spring decor was gorgeous and the seasonal pastries looked great. An absolute must-visit if you are travelling to Dublin! read more

Bewley's Cafe is a lovely place for coffee, breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea! Our server was so sweet and accommodating. I cannot say enough about how kind and friendly she was. Oh, and the food was good too! read more

Loved this place! The interior was particularly gorgeous. The service was great, our hostess was absolutely lovely. The homemade scones are incredible and large enough to almost be an entire meal. My only qualm was that the breakfast menu is not great for somewhat picky eaters, I had avocado toast that was unnecessarily spicy and they could not remove the chili from it. Perhaps the Irish palette is more attuned to spice than mine! Overall though would recommend this place for brunch, ambience and service are wonderful and if you aren't a picky eater you will certainly enjoy it. read more

I had a really great lunch here. Since I was eating alone, I was directed to sit upstairs at a table with a good view of all the activity on the lower floor. It was actually pretty interesting. I had an open faced smoked salmon sandwich, iced tea and later, a cup of really good coffee. The place was busy but my sandwich and tea arrived quickly and service was really professional. Everything was delicious and I really enjoyed my experience here. There are displays on the ground floor where you could get delicious pastries and sweets to go. Such a beautiful place. Came here with a very large group and they were very accommodating. We had an area on the second floor to ourselves. The menu is very simple. Not a large menu but what they have is very good. I had tea and a scone with clotted cream and jam. My BF had scrambled eggs and toast. The eggs were perfect. Soft and creamy. Impressive exterior along Grafton Street's heavily traveled tourist strip. Inside, more impressive, Pastries as soon as you enter. Then greeted by a polite MaitreD' shown a table. There a an ample number of tables on three levels, including limited seating on a second level open terrace. Handsome wooden paneled walls and a black & white marble tiled floor. Very reminiscent of a classic Italian restaurant / bakery. Open for high end sweets & beverages all day. The menu offers a lighter fare of options from the kitchen for breakfast, brunch and lunch. We were in for lunch and "light was right" given our eating habits over the past days. Irish Smoked Salmon on fresh brown bread with capers, thinly slice onion, sour cream, and a side garden salad. Other dishes served, Seafood Stew with whipped potato, Ham and Brie sandwich, and gluten free Penne Pasta with house made tomato sauce. Our server, was extremely helpful and even offered other suggestions around Town with Gluten friendly menu's - as she was GF, too. We rounded off the "light lunch" with pastries and one expresso for his Honor. Sweets had? All fresh, made in-house: Chocolate Eclair, Cream Puff, and a slice of Opera Coffee Cake. A GF Lemon Sponge was also served from an off-site bakery - safe approach to cross contamination. read more

Great service and tasty tea time treats make this spot ideal for a break from Grafton Street shopping. We tried the signature opera coffee cake and vanilla cream brioche. Both were delicious. "You don't go to Dublin without stopping in Bewley's." That's been engrained in me since I was a kid. After all Bewley's is Ireland's most iconic café and tea house. I needed an afternoon tea today so I knew right where to head. As busy as this place is, everyone is friendly. There are three levels for dining/drinking and each has its own atmosphere. I prefer the ground floor because it has the most buzz. And it has one of the most beautiful stained-glass windows by the legendary Harry Clarke that I have ever seen in my life. Bewley's always has a nice assortment of teas but today an Irish Afternoon Tea was the perfect choice. Of course there are no tea bags used here - only high quality loose tea leaves. To accompany the tea I couldn't decide between two of my favorites - their famous Cherry Bun or their famous Almond Bun. So I got both. Both are so tasty but by a whisker, I will vote the Almond Bun the top tea cake in Dublin. The addictive almond paste inside the bun solidified the win. Of course Bewley's is all decorated for Christmas and on the top level as a charity benefit they are displaying a series of amazing dioramas with hundreds of figures and objects. It was tea time for us here in Dublin, and my local friend wanted to make sure that she took us to a spot where she used to work at years ago. My personal goal was to have a nice brunch with a scone and tea, and Bewley's Cafe was certainly able to deliver. Located in a popular shopping district in Dublin, Bewleys gets packed. Apparently they underwent a recent renovation and locals are coming back out to see the new place. When we arrived on a Friday afternoon, the entire cafe was packed. We didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table so definitely worth some patience. We each ordered a lunch sandwich with our own pot of tea. I went for a Lemon & Elderflower tea (€2.90) as well as their Smoked Irish Salmon (€9) with a small side salad. Oh, and I couldn't forget the scone that I wanted as well with cream and jam. I really enjoyed the sandwich. It came in a dark, sesame bun with a healthy portion of tasty smoked salmon. Great for those that enjoy bagel and lox, as you'll find it very similar to their sandwich. My tea was very nice with one kettle serving two cups. As for my scone, I did wish it was a little bit warmer, but it certainly got the job done. All in all, Bawley's is a fine place for an afternoon tea if you are willing to wait out crowds and be in a rather bustling environment. Don't expect to sit down to do work like other cafe's. This place was recommended to me by an Irish friend and it is a lively and fun cafe. We went the day before Christmas, and there was a line with a 20 minute wait, but they had an interactive band playing festive music while we wait, so it became the funnest wait ever! It is a two story place, and we were seated on the second floor. We ordered a coffee, tea, and some goodies. The tea was especially good. The wait staff was so friendly and accommodating. It was just a fun place. Some of the tables are close together, so we wound up having a nice conversation with a man and his young son sitting next to us. If I go back to the wonderful city of Dublin, I would definitely want to go here again. read more

Heard about Bewley's from a Three Perfect Days Dublin article I read, and it lived up to the hype. I waited until 1000 to sit in the James Joyce room, and the gorgeous Dublin weather allowed me to sit on the balcony overlooking Grafton Street. It was sublime. I started with a Ham & Gruyere Croissant that was excellent. I opted for a fruit pastry thingy that was a twice folded croissant with a cream custard and fresh fruit melange. However they did it, and whatever they did, they nailed it. Both dishes were on point. Well made espresso and a standard cup of coffee, but very fresh, and a cool thing they do with bottomless bottled water. I prefer sparkling water, and instead of selling me one bottle and calling it quits, Bewley's provides a bottomless service for one price that allows a full grown person like me to hydrate aplenty before a long day walking in Dublin. Bewley's gave me amazing service, in a perfect atmosphere, with great food and drink. I can't say enough positive things... read more

I ordered as soon as I get in, i thought i have to get my order first and then get my chair. I asked the receptionist on where i should wait for my order or should i sit. She said that i cannot sit down cause i ordered for to go and to go food are not allowed inside and just walk away( not so helpful at all) The bartender was kind enough to step up and talk to his manager if i can get seated even i ordered for to go. Manager came and let me seated without any trouble. I know it wont be fair to give them a low rating just because of one person who chose not to attend to a customer and turn her back just because she think i cant. I didn't get a hot order but just a dessert and coffee. Dessert is really good. Sweetness and blueberry taste is balance. Have to say, everyone is nice and accommodating except for the receptionist. Inside is pretty casual but not loud.. nice place to sot down after a tiring day or shopping. read more
