I came here with a large group and we were seated in one of the upper floor private rooms. The building is old (apparently, James Joyce worked here!), so be careful of the stairs. The room had a great view of River Liffey and the busy city center. There was no air conditioning, but we were able to prop the windows open for some breeze. Most of the food was good. For appetizers, we enjoyed the crispy pork belly, shrimp tacos, and garlic and caramelised green onion hummus. For entrees, we enjoyed the Irish beef striploin steak, green pork chop, and piripiri chicken thighs. One person in my party ordered the beet and apple burger and she did not like it. 1 star off: Our drinks were either watered down or had a ton of ice cubes in it. We had to order a lot more drinks than intended, and in this case, it was out of necessity. Very good meal and service. My shrimp pasta was tasty, not particularly spicy though it was advertised as such, and a reasonable sized portion so that I could still have dessert. The lemon cheesecake was delicious. My mom enjoyed her chicken and quinoa dish as well, though she's not a big eater so the portion was a little large for her. She is a big dessert fan though and really loved the fruit crisp, which I think was apple. Grab a window or patio seat and people watch. It's a good time. read more

After so many positive experiences in Dublin, we were very disappointed with our experience at The Woollen Mills. Upon arrival, the host was rude and dismissive and told us we had been given the worst table in the restaurant because we had not answered a confirmation call earlier in the day. This was especially frustrating because we had already confirmed our reservation through the booking app and had paid a non-refundable deposit. In addition, there was no message from the restaurant asking us to contact them. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the poor welcome. While it was perfectly edible, it felt more like slightly upgraded pub food than the quality we expected based on the restaurant's reputation and pricing. Dublin has many excellent dining options, and this experience did not live up to expectations. This is a well positioned restaurant that has amble outdoor seating which is perfect on a warm day in Dublin. The food menu is not what I'd call traditional Irish food -- seems to be more inspired by the US (Austin zones to mind for both the feel and taste of the place). I was hurt & disappointed when I was refused seating after watching two entirely Caucasian parties ahead of me (one a walk-in for sure) get seated in a half empty restaurant. I was told by the host that the restaurant was fully booked...only to walk around the corner & book online a reservation for 15 minutes after my in-person inquiry. I walked by Woollen Mills multiple times during our stay in Dublin...no people of color, definitely NO minority parties seated at their tables. We started with the nachos, which were good! Nothing too special, but definitely scratched the itch for some Mexican cuisine while overseas. Looking for a traditional full Irish breakfast in the city center (that was served before 10 AM - as most of the places we found were pubs and they didn't start serving breakfast until 10 AM), I happened upon The Woollen Mills with the help of Yelp. Located at the other side of Ha'Penny Bridge, just north of the Liffey, The Woollen Mills was modern and clean inside. My boyfriend and I both ordered their take on a full Irish breakfast and it did not disappoint. Two fried eggs (freshest eggs I've ever had), tomato, mushrooms, two thick slices of AMAZING toast, fresh Irish butter, blood pudding, sausage, and thick cut bacon ... we were in heaven. When I went I got a chicken Caesar salad and a margarita pizza. The food was decent nothing too different. I was disappointed at the service! The waitress who seated my boyfriend and I was quite rude. She only came to take my order once and never came back. I only drink water usually and she never came back to refill my water once. When I asked her for a box she seem frustrated and again never came back to give me a to go box or check in on my meal! My boyfriend had to go to the front to pay. They have a nice patio outside and a vibrant, well-lit area inside. We sat outside to enjoy our breakfast. Food is upscale Irish pub fare and the flavors are much more exciting to match. I had absolutely nothing to complain about from my meal. Didn't blow my mind, but it was good, solid, interesting stuff. Cocktail program seems to be on point here as well. If you come later in the morning, you could run into some problems getting a table right away. We had the full breakfast and it was really big? The menu didn't specify how much would actually be on the plate, in the future we would just share one plate. The tea was nice and strong and pipping hot. The eggs were over easy and the sausage was really flavorful and very well seasoned. Breakfast here is the way to go. Although it could be worth a try at lunch. A burger on the brunch menu for 18euro? Do I get to keep the gold embellished plate? I understand they get a lot of footfall given the location but as a local...surely there's many other places that you can spend your Euros in. Nicer places. With nicer food. And better overall service. Even the coffee isn't good. Woollen Mills looks perfect from the outside. A nice location, right across Ha'Penny Bridge (from which you have a lovely view from any of their windows), a rotating and interesting menu. Like an Irish hipster friend who graces you with their presence on vacation. My first visit, I had a really nice banana and nut bun with cream and a latte. Messy latte art, tsk! But the bun was honestly one of the best buns I've had in Dublin so far. The problem was it was so small that I could have eaten it in three bites. When I went to ring, the guy had charged me for them separately so I nearly paid double instead of the 'special' price. Luckily the person (manager?) ringing me up caught it. Today I came in for a proper breakfast and ordered a plate - sausages, poached eggs, fried tomato and brown toast. The sausages were fatty and nicely fried on the outside but were lukewarm inside, which made all the fat congeal in a short time. The tomato was nicely flavoured. Eggs were great. Half the toast was burnt. I also had a fresh-pressed orange juice and in total it was about 16Euro. Was it worth it? I don't think so. I must have paid for the view. Here's the thing, I do feel as though the quality of the food is good. It's the execution that is not so good. And today the service was just terrible. When I came in there were three total tables. After we got our food the guy (manager?) quickly looked at my table to see if I was eating, then asked the other two tables how their food was and if they needed anything. When I flagged him down, he put a finger up and said "Hold on" then proceeded to do something at the register computer. Really? I finally had to flag someone else. After I was done eating, the guy started clearing my table... But he was in mid-conversation with two other servers. So he came for a plate, talk talk, put plate away, talk talk, came back for the butter cup, talk, came back for ketchup, talk talk. Then he randomly came back for the salt and pepper mills (what is that about), spilling salt and pepper on the table - talk talk. He didn't even talk to me once while clearing, so I doubt he noticed the burnt toast or congealed sausage on my plate. I did not see him do this to any other table. As I paid, he still did not ask how everything was, he seemed distracted on his phone. Very rude and unprofessional. I'm still in Dublin another month and have two more people coming to visit for two weeks... I will not be taking them here. So. TL;DR: Nice view, food is good quality but not executed well or expensive for portions and customer service is terrible. Unfortunately, I can't recommend. read more

We were one of the first in the place for breakfast after arriving early in the a.m. on our flight from NYC. This is a lovely place with comfortable seating. We had cappuccino, with the full breakfast and the poached egg breakfast. Both were filling. Everything was cooked just right. Went here for brunch last sunday and we were seated on the upstairs terrace - which was really quite lovely overlooking the liffey. The beardy waiter was efficient and friendly. The location probably explains the ridiculous prices. Almost all dishes on the brunch menu were well over 15 €. The burger costs 18€?!? A bowl of cockles and mussels 23 €! These are prices you normally would expect to pay for dinner. Even though there were about 20 brunch options (quite original options too, it has to be said), none of them were particular healthy. Me, trying to be good, ordered the poached eggs with artichoke hummus and pitta bread. It came with 2 aubergine fritters. Tasty enough, but worth the €16,50? ...Me thinks not!!! The previous day I had a similar brunch elsewhere for nearly a tenner less which tasted just as nice. The coffee wasn't great...quite bitter. We've managed to visit the Woollen Mills a few times now - once for a weekend lunch, and another time we popped in on a weekday night for dinner. I love everything about it. The bright open space with plenty of sunlight in the day, the casual friendly staff and hearty good food made with excellent ingredients. For lunch, we tried the soup and (MASSIVE) tuna sandwich with a salad plate, piled high with a selection of 3 interesting salads. Everything was fresh and delicious and plentiful. The samphire salad with pear and hazelnuts was particularly nice. For dinner, we tried the smoked pork belly, which just melted in our mouths, and the wild boar chilli. Good flavours and generous portions. A side of homemade chips rounded off the meal, and even that was done particularly well. Crispy thick-cut but with tender fluffy centres, and served with roasted garlic aioli... the kind that makes you "accidentally" keep eating long after you're full. Best of all, there are still so many things on the menu I want to try! I think this is my new local go-to for a casual meal. read more

Our group of four ate here last weekend and oh my word was it good! We started with a few cocktails while we decided on the grub. The boys had G&Ts and the girls went with whiskey sours - which were made with fresh raspberries and were quite refreshing. For our starters we had the veggie platter, tin of anchovies and the butternut squash with poached egg. Everything was beautifully presented and I was thrilled that they allowed us to have the veggie main as our starter. It was the perfect amount of food to kick things off. For the mains we were once again in sync with two orders of the venison cushion and two orders of the braised pig cheek. The meat was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. If anyone is scared of the word cheek please take the plunge - you won't regret it. I'm smiling just thinking about it. As this was our first time I couldn't leave without sampling their dessert, could I? No. It was hard to choose but the server sold me on the bread and butter pudding.
