Seafood Chowder

It was our 41st Anniversary and we picked Davy Byrne's. What a good choice. Dinner was excellent and the service perfect. Phillipe from Brazil was our server and was absolutely great. Restaurant was beautiful with the tile floors and gorgeous ceiling. We had a really great night!!.

While doing a tour of the Irish Rock Hall of fame, my tour guide Bryan suggested, unsolicited, that I give this place a try. The restaurant was gorgeous inside with painted ceilings but, being an absolutely gorgeous day, I chose to eat outside and people watch. I was not disappointed. I ordered the double burger with fries. It was huge! The flavors were magnificent and, after a lengthy stay, i finished it all. Nothing was to be left behind. I topped it off with a pint of Murphys. For those who drink Guinness, try Murphys. It is so smooth. The wait staff was prompt and friendly.

We wandered into this place after a day of sightseeing, and we were not disappointed. I had the beef and Guinness pie, which was rich and filling and topped with a decadent flaky crust. The cocktails were also creative and tasty. They were a little stodgy about us not having reservations even though they weren't full, but they gave us a table anyway.

One of the original copies. Of course Joyce mentions this restaurant in the book.

So happy to have dinner at this venerable, made famous by James Joyce, restaurant. What a night. The European finals began as our dinner concluded and we watched with a super lively restaurant cheering and jeering! I sat beside an original copy of Ulysses!! The fish and chips with hake is the way to go. Lightly batter and traditional the dish is spectacular. The Guinness Stew looks scrumptious and reported as "good". Table buzz is mashed potatoes are the best! Some service slow downs early but smoothed out over dinner.

Seafood Chowder

Squeezed in here on a Friday night and got seafood chowder. Very delicious and the restaurant was very cozy and stylish

The ambiance was cozy and friendly on a cool spring day in Dublin. The decor is cheery; service was attentive; and the food was fresh and delicious. The open smoked salmon sandwich was healthy and yummy and the tomato soup was hearty and hot. The wine list is decent but a pint of Guinness was the perfect pairing for this lunch in Ireland! Reservations recommended.

This place is nostalgic for me. It holds so much history not just for Dublin, but for my family. It was comforting to see very little has changed regarding decor over the years. It still holds a very classy and trendy vibe. Unfortunately, this time around the service wasn't that great. The place was pretty empty and the server didn't attend to us much at all until it was time for the check. Since we didn't see her, we didn't get a chance to order food. I'm still giving 3 stars because the legacy of this place deserves it despite a one-time poor-service experience. We continue to look forward to future visits.

Dinner on my own in Dublin and had a wonderful meal at this establishment. The cod fritters were really great (so yummy that I wanted to lick the plate) and the blue cheese, pear and walnut salad that accompanied my meal was fabulous. It was nice to be able to sit and enjoy my meal while people watching.

I give this place a solid 4.5 stars! Busy little place but got us in without a wait. Our server was absolutely amazing and attentive. I had an amazing porn star martini with the passion fruit half. Our food was 10/10. We had the 1/2 mussels for start, steak and frites, and wagyu burger. We were fully stuffed upon leaving and left no crumbs. Only here for the weekend and tempted to return before we leave! The pictures do not do it justice! I feel the price was very fair for everything you get here.

Visiting Dublin on business, we enjoyed traditional Irish meals. Music played was like a 80s hit list and added to our dinner conversation much to our enjoyment!! Our American server was attentive and friendly.

I happened upon this place while meandering around the Grafton St. area- and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife had the lamb stew. Both were quite good. The service was excellent as well.

Fish was pretty decent. I've had better but it was still ok. Service was quick and everyone was nice. Super cute inside.

#5 on Trip Advisor and with good reason. We totally enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Restaurant reminds me of a Paris Bistro rather than an Irish Pub -- long bar in front where you could see/hear a lounge singer that was performing and some side tables but we got a quiet table in the back where excellent server Monika took good care of us and wasn't shy about giving her opinion about what to order. I like that rather than the server who says "Everything is Good!" As for the food, the MUSSELS Starter was SO GOOD! 1/2 order plenty to share for two people with rich coconut broth. The cauliflower with tempura batter was also shared by two but we couldn't finish it -- saving room for the lovely piece of trout with a nice sauce that was our main. We may have gotten another main but can't remember -- but I know everything was excellent. Definitely an older crowd -- looks like many "regulars" dine here along with the tourists.

The Stag's Head - Bacon & Cabbage

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

The Waterloo Bar - Rustic Dublin Coddle (€20.50)

From the…read moreoutside, it plants itself confidently among Dublin's historic streets with a façade that promises hearty fare and good pints; inside, the space is warm and inviting with dark wood, exposed brick, beautiful murals, and comfortable seating that encourages lingering. My party of six walked in on a Wednesday night at around 7:30pm; at that time, the restaurant was about half-full, but filled up over the course of our meal. The menu has plenty of options ranging from healthy salads to traditional Irish dishes to your standard hearty pub fare. Drinks are also fairly priced here, and they have a good range of ales and lagers on tap (and of course, the classic Guinness). I opted for their Rustic Dublin Coddle (€20.50), which is a sizeable bowl of warming soup with two chargrilled, tender pork sausages, smoky bacon, soft potatoes, and onion, served with toasted sourdough bread. I appreciated the clean taste of the soup (made with an herbed chicken broth), which cut the rich fattiness of the sausage and bacon. I do wish the soup had been served with a more traditional Irish brown bread, but the sourdough was tasty nonetheless. Another great dish was the Waterloo Prime Irish Beef Burger (€19), which is a large patty of juicy, prime Irish beef served atop a toasted bun, with red onions, baby gem lettuce, pickled gherkins, and a tangy smoked Dublin cheddar. Some friends ordered the Superfood Salad (€15), which has a plethora of fresh vegetables and grains, but they noted it was quite bland, even with the French dressing. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side for a pub, but I find Waterlooo Bar unique in that the atmosphere feels classic but lively: you get that laid-back Dublin pub energy with a hint of sophistication that makes it great for both casual meals and nights out. The food is solid if not stellar, the vibe is fun, and prices are reasonable for the area; a satisfying pick for an Irish pub dinner.
