Very nice outdoor patio for a beer and a snack. I had the club sandwich which came with a tasty sauce and a side salad. My wife had the prawn cocktail and she was very pleased with her choice. The prawns were pricey, but she was pleased with the size and taste of them. read more

Stopped in for lunch and found the place quite busy. However we were seated immediately by the server and our drink orders were taken. We were also told about the lunch special, a fish burger with fries. We ordered the fish and chips and the special fish burger. Our order came quickly and everything was very hot. The fish and chips had a large fish filet, tartar sauce, a small container of peas (not mushy peas as was expected) and a metal container of fries. The container was very hot and helped keep the fries crispy. The fries were unique in that the shape had a celery shape with a valley to keep the ketchup in place or as I was told by the server mayonnaise for her. The fish was well fried and very hot. The fish burger was unique in that from what I could tell it was flaked or mashed fish filets then surrounded by a flat filet to keep its shape. It was served on a soft bun with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The 'burger' was very large and thick that it almost made it hard to eat, but I managed! The batter was very thin, light and crispy. Again the fries were super hot and crunchy and there was a small container of tartar sauce. Both meals were good but lacked seasoning. Not sure they would be ordered again. The menu is small but would have enough for most appetites. They do offer an all day Gorgonzola and bread appetizer which, if we were going to spend time drinking, I would have ordered. Atmosphere was very loud with plenty of bar noise (dishes, silverware, and glassware being knocked about) which sometimes made it difficult to hold a conversation. Seating was a combination of booth, tables, and chairs. This is a large establishment with another bar area to the rear, labeled Molly's Room (Malone perhaps?). All in all an ok visit not sure we'll pop back in on our next trip. read more

A friend and I made reservations here for dinner. We got a cozy corner table where you are somewhat close to the people next to you, but it was fine. It's a cute atmosphere. We enjoyed the food, drink, and service here. read more

They were able to seat our table of 5 right away. The drinks were aesthetically pleasing and tasted yummy and sweet! One of them is a mocktail too which was a nice addition! The food was very good. First I tried an oyster which tasted so fresh! My meal was the roasted chicken with carrots and parsnips that had a caramelization to them - very good. Highly recommend! read more

There is something about sitting in the present whilst being tied to the past. Such feelings are evoked at the famed Davy Byrnes. You might even be inspired to read some Joyce! Dare I say I was surprised by the flavor profile of the menu? Outstanding. Forget what you may have heard about traditional Irish cuisine. I would put Davy Byrnes fare up against any in Europe. read more

Great Dublin pub, unfortunately the kitchen had closed by the time I got here. But the bar was great, the bar man was friendly and welcoming, even recommending a flight of different Irish whiskies. The atmosphere was fun and inviting, can't wait to return for dinner. read more

The way it looked inside was not at all what I was expecting seeing it from the outside. It's got impressive elegance in the decor. The bar service wasn't great but they did serve me my second favourite pint of Guinness in Dublin. read more

This is a classic restaurant and pub in Dublin. The soup and bread were top notch. The beer is flowing and the pasta special was delicious and a large portion. Inside the atmosphere is nice and inviting. Outside I saw everyone with blankets on their laps I imagine the restaurant provides for chilly days on patio. The service was quick and friendly. While doing a tour of the Irish Rock Hall of fame, my tour guide Bryan suggested, unsolicited, that I give this place a try. The restaurant was gorgeous inside with painted ceilings but, being an absolutely gorgeous day, I chose to eat outside and people watch. I was not disappointed. I ordered the double burger with fries. It was huge! The flavors were magnificent and, after a lengthy stay, i finished it all. Nothing was to be left behind. I topped it off with a pint of Murphys. For those who drink Guinness, try Murphys. It is so smooth. The wait staff was prompt and friendly. read more

We wandered into this place after a day of sightseeing, and we were not disappointed. I had the beef and Guinness pie, which was rich and filling and topped with a decadent flaky crust. The cocktails were also creative and tasty. They were a little stodgy about us not having reservations even though they weren't full, but they gave us a table anyway. read more

So happy to have dinner at this venerable, made famous by James Joyce, restaurant. What a night. The European finals began as our dinner concluded and we watched with a super lively restaurant cheering and jeering! I sat beside an original copy of Ulysses!! The fish and chips with hake is the way to go. Lightly batter and traditional the dish is spectacular. The Guinness Stew looks scrumptious and reported as "good". Table buzz is mashed potatoes are the best! Some service slow downs early but smoothed out over dinner. read more

The ambiance was cozy and friendly on a cool spring day in Dublin. The decor is cheery; service was attentive; and the food was fresh and delicious. The open smoked salmon sandwich was healthy and yummy and the tomato soup was hearty and hot. The wine list is decent but a pint of Guinness was the perfect pairing for this lunch in Ireland! Reservations recommended. read more

This place is nostalgic for me. It holds so much history not just for Dublin, but for my family. It was comforting to see very little has changed regarding decor over the years. It still holds a very classy and trendy vibe. Unfortunately, this time around the service wasn't that great. The place was pretty empty and the server didn't attend to us much at all until it was time for the check. Since we didn't see her, we didn't get a chance to order food. I'm still giving 3 stars because the legacy of this place deserves it despite a one-time poor-service experience. We continue to look forward to future visits. read more

Not touristy - many locals eat here. Old, historical pub referenced in James Joyce works. For a starter, definitely order the half order of Mussels (€10.50) to share for two to three people. Excellent! Served in white wine, cream, and shallots with Guinness brown bread. For mains, we had the Pan-Fried Trout (€28.00) with prawns and citrus crème sauce, avocado and beetroot puree. It comes with a side - we had the Tempura Cauliflower Wings (€5.00) is nice to share, generous portion. And we had the Roast Irish Free-Range Chicken (€19.50), served with peas, smoked bacon, stem broccoli, Pomme Puree, and chicken jus. Live music in the front, with quieter tables in the back room. Monika took good care of us! Reservations available through Open Table. read more

Dinner on my own in Dublin and had a wonderful meal at this establishment. I give this place a solid 4.5 stars! Busy little place but got us in without a wait. Our server was absolutely amazing and attentive. I had an amazing porn star martini with the passion fruit half. Our food was 10/10. We had the 1/2 mussels for start, steak and frites, and wagyu burger. We were fully stuffed upon leaving and left no crumbs. Only here for the weekend and tempted to return before we leave! The pictures do not do it justice! I feel the price was very fair for everything you get here. read more

I went here based on the reviews. We got the baby guinness shots, which tasted nothing like guinness at all. Got the wagyu beef burger, fish & chips, bread & butter pudding. Nothing stood out here. DELICIOUS! Absolutely delicious. This place was recommended to us from a local and we could not have been more pleased. If you are looking for traditional Irish meals - this is your place! We had spent a few days in Ireland prior to coming here so we were sick of pubs already and wanted a nice traditional Irish restaurant - THIS IS IT! I have truly never considered going to the same place twice on a vacation until now. This is the one restaurant I would go to twice on my vacation!!! I got the Beef + Guinness Pie and my boyfriend got the Lamb Stew. Both absolutely to die for. The service was exceptional. I know tipping isn't big in Europe but this is the kind of place where you feel exceptionally well treated and YOU TIP! The prices are great - we walked away spending maybe €60 for two courses and a bottle of red wine. Definitely a must eat! And right off of Grafton Street in the city center. read more

#5 on Trip Advisor and with good reason. We totally enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Restaurant reminds me of a Paris Bistro rather than an Irish Pub -- long bar in front where you could see/hear a lounge singer that was performing and some side tables but we got a quiet table in the back where excellent server Monika took good care of us and wasn't shy about giving her opinion about what to order. I like that rather than the server who says "Everything is Good!" As for the food, the MUSSELS Starter was SO GOOD! 1/2 order plenty to share for two people with rich coconut broth. The cauliflower with tempura batter was also shared by two but we couldn't finish it -- saving room for the lovely piece of trout with a nice sauce that was our main. We may have gotten another main but can't remember -- but I know everything was excellent. Definitely an older crowd -- looks like many "regulars" dine here along with the tourists. read more

Really cool place with great traditional Irish dishes right off Grafton Street! Walking in... it's vintage but really well done with two bars & many tables.. beautiful wallpaper and chandeliers. This is where the locals come to eat and actually read the newspaper!? Tried their wagyu burger and it was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had.. and I've had a lot of burgers! Half pound of beef cooked a perfect MR with Dubliner Cheese, tomatoes, pickles & burger sauce. I think it was the freshness of the produce that really made the burger so damn good, not sure. The fish & chips is great and they also are known for their cod croquettes & beef and guinness pie! Basically everything is good. Service was great and the hostess was very nice even walking me outside to direct me to the nearest bank. Joint gets very busy so plan accordingly/ great patio as well!! Must stop for lunch in Dublin/ trust me here. read more

Classic pub, great place for a drink. Service and food were disappointing. Arrived for 6:00pm reservation, was warmly greeted and sat. Very young waitress took our drink and dinner order. Cocktails were nice. Meals, fish & chips and lamb stew, came to the table quickly. Then we never saw our waitress again! The fish was ok, cold chips. The lamb stew was a big disappointment. Watery consistency a few bits of lamb, potatoes and carrots. Very Bland. Finished eating without being offered another drink, or desert, then waited 30 minutes for our check. Luckily we struck up a conversation with the next table to pass the time. very strange experience! read more

It's been a challenge finding good food in Dublin but this spot hit the mark. Our family of five with three teens loved it. To start the service was friendly and helpful. After a mix up with our reservation made by our hotel the staff worked to find us a good table. Three of us were sold in the Guinness and Beef Pie which we all agreed was one of the best dishes we"be had after spending a month in Europe. Our two boys had the fish and chips and chicken which they loved. The adults enjoyed some good wine and Guinness. When asked about which whiskeys they carried, we were asked to come up to the bar which highlights their selection. I chose the Red Spot which was smooth and crisp to cap off a great evening. Kudos to the great service and food at a historic little gem. read more

My husband and I went here the day we arrived. Mary ( the hostess) was so kind and tentative. We didn't have a reservation yet she found a place for us to sit. Every few minutes she kept checking on us, to make sure we were okay. Very sweet. Jody (our server) equally sweet and tentative. They both made our visit so memorable and enjoyable. Excellent quality food options, quick service, nice atmosphere, outdoor dining option! . Came recommended to us by a Dubliner!

Davy Brynes is really a must for Joyce fans. Even if you hate cheese sandwiches. Even if you don't want a glass of burgundy. Because it's not about the food, it's about the experience. That being said, the other food we ordered (besides the copycat meal of Leopold Bloom) wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The only thing I really liked were our pints of Guinness and the cozy atmosphere. The proximity to Grafton St. and Trinity College is also a plus. So is this a nice pub to chill out in after walking around Dublin the whole day? Yes, very much so. Would I come here specifically to eat dinner on an average Tuesday? No. read more
