Stopped in for lunch and found the place quite busy. However we were seated immediately by the server and our drink orders were taken. We were also told about the lunch special, a fish burger with fries. We ordered the fish and chips and the special fish burger. Our order came quickly and everything was very hot. The fish and chips had a large fish filet, tartar sauce, a small container of peas (not mushy peas as was expected) and a metal container of fries. The container was very hot and helped keep the fries crispy. The fries were unique in that the shape had a celery shape with a valley to keep the ketchup in place or as I was told by the server mayonnaise for her. The fish was well fried and very hot. The fish burger was unique in that from what I could tell it was flaked or mashed fish filets then surrounded by a flat filet to keep its shape. It was served on a soft bun with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The 'burger' was very large and thick that it almost made it hard to eat, but I managed! The batter was very thin, light and crispy. Again the fries were super hot and crunchy and there was a small container of tartar sauce. Both meals were good but lacked seasoning. Not sure they would be ordered again. The menu is small but would have enough for most appetites. They do offer an all day Gorgonzola and bread appetizer which, if we were going to spend time drinking, I would have ordered. Atmosphere was very loud with plenty of bar noise (dishes, silverware, and glassware being knocked about) which sometimes made it difficult to hold a conversation. Seating was a combination of booth, tables, and chairs. This is a large establishment with another bar area to the rear, labeled Molly's Room (Malone perhaps?). All in all an ok visit not sure we'll pop back in on our next trip. read more

This is a classic restaurant and pub in Dublin. The soup and bread were top notch. The beer is flowing and the pasta special was delicious and a large portion. Inside the atmosphere is nice and inviting. Outside I saw everyone with blankets on their laps I imagine the restaurant provides for chilly days on patio. The service was quick and friendly. They were able to seat our table of 5 right away. The drinks were aesthetically pleasing and tasted yummy and sweet! One of them is a mocktail too which was a nice addition! The food was very good. While doing a tour of the Irish Rock Hall of fame, my tour guide Bryan suggested, unsolicited, that I give this place a try. The restaurant was gorgeous inside with painted ceilings but, being an absolutely gorgeous day, I chose to eat outside and people watch. I was not disappointed. I ordered the double burger with fries. It was huge! The flavors were magnificent and, after a lengthy stay, i finished it all. Nothing was to be left behind. I topped it off with a pint of Murphys. So happy to have dinner at this venerable, made famous by James Joyce, restaurant. What a night. The European finals began as our dinner concluded and we watched with a super lively restaurant cheering and jeering! I sat beside an original copy of Ulysses!! This place is nostalgic for me. It holds so much history not just for Dublin, but for my family. It was comforting to see very little has changed regarding decor over the years. It still holds a very classy and trendy vibe. Unfortunately, this time around the service wasn't that great. The place was pretty empty and the server didn't attend to us much at all until it was time for the check. Since we didn't see her, we didn't get a chance to order food. Excellent! Served in white wine, cream, and shallots with Guinness brown bread. For mains, we had the Pan-Fried Trout (€28.00) with prawns and citrus crème sauce, avocado and beetroot puree. Restaurant reminds me of a Paris Bistro rather than an Irish Pub -- long bar in front where you could see/hear a lounge singer that was performing and some side tables but we got a quiet table in the back where excellent server Monika took good care of us and wasn't shy about giving her opinion about what to order. I like that rather than the server who says "Everything is Good!" As for the food, the MUSSELS Starter was SO GOOD! 1/2 order plenty to share for two people with rich coconut broth. The cauliflower with tempura batter was also shared by two but we couldn't finish it -- saving room for the lovely piece of trout with a nice sauce that was our main. Half pound of beef cooked a perfect MR with Dubliner Cheese, tomatoes, pickles & burger sauce. I think it was the freshness of the produce that really made the burger so damn good, not sure. Cocktails were nice. Meals, fish & chips and lamb stew, came to the table quickly. Then we never saw our waitress again! The fish was ok, cold chips. The lamb stew was a big disappointment. Watery consistency a few bits of lamb, potatoes and carrots. Very Bland. Finished eating without being offered another drink, or desert, then waited 30 minutes for our check. It's been a challenge finding good food in Dublin but this spot hit the mark. Our family of five with three teens loved it. To start the service was friendly and helpful. After a mix up with our reservation made by our hotel the staff worked to find us a good table. Three of us were sold in the Guinness and Beef Pie which we all agreed was one of the best dishes we"be had after spending a month in Europe. Our two boys had the fish and chips and chicken which they loved. The adults enjoyed some good wine and Guinness. When asked about which whiskeys they carried, we were asked to come up to the bar which highlights their selection. I chose the Red Spot which was smooth and crisp to cap off a great evening. That being said, the other food we ordered (besides the copycat meal of Leopold Bloom) wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The only thing I really liked were our pints of Guinness and the cozy atmosphere. The proximity to Grafton St. and Trinity College is also a plus.
