It's a solid spot for drinks, but food is not it. It has quite a lot of space inside though so good for big groups. They also have a good amount of TV screens for games. We tried a lot of the dishes on the food menu and the favorite was definitely the Chicken Vol Au Vent. The brown bread here is pretty bland. The Guinness was pretty good, better than the one I had the day before. The service is alright, and there are a good amount of restrooms located upstairs. The hairy lemon is touristy but also a classic stop when in Dublin City. On our few trips to Dublin it's been our landmark staple to know where we are heading and it's always been a solid option for stopping in for a pint. I prefer gauging the restaurant from the immediate outside/inside. Our dining experiences have varied based on how busy the pub is. We have one trip where the bar itself wasn't too crowded and we were able to sit down and get food pretty quickly. That visit was 5/5. Another trip we should have known better as the bar was packed and there were people lining up in the main check in station. That experience was more a 3/5 as it was hard to get service. With two trips here and a range, I'm comfortable giving them a 4/5. When the place isn't crazy it's a solid touristy spot to stop for a pint and chips. That's exactly what we did. Loaded up on bulmers and Guinness and stuffed ourself with fish and chips. There is no going wrong with that combo. I love the menu here and the fun logo. We usually opt to sit upstairs as it's a little quieter and service seems to move upstairs decent. It's not the "must stop" pub to visit in Dublin but it's faired us well when we were tired and didn't want to put too much guessing into our meal. UBER, typical Irish pub. Good beer on tap, stick to your rib, ribs food, matter of fact servers. Lots of tables jammed in, everybody talking. It was perfect. So here's a classic pub environment, with nightly live music, a good sized dining room, and an even bigger outside seating area. We were there early, and while it was busy, we were seated quickly. Service is fast, the bar and the kitchen are even faster. The food was flying up the dumbwaiter from the basement kitchen. I had fish and chips, my wife soup of the day and onion rings. Although very casual, this pub does not disappoint. Plenty of opportunity to eat drink and be merry. They have a place called the snug, which is hidden from pretty much everyone except from the folks walking along the street. We split the BLT and some fries, and our table mate had the clam chowder. My least favorite spot we stopped in during our Irish trip - I think our biggest mistake was coming here for food as we do hear the bar aspect is nice. We waited in a queue on a Saturday night to eat here and other than the girl who sat us, we had no friendly interaction with the staff. They honestly acted like they hated their lives and couldn't be bothered- by either our orders or getting our drinks on time, etc. The food was very meh - burger, chicken sandwich, stew, and chips were very tasteless. I was actually shocked on how unfriendly the staff was - they threw things down on the table, rolled their eyes, and had inconsistent service. The kicker was this place was one of the only few ones that had tip on their site for us to add, which was not the norm in Ireland at any of the places we ate. My friend had the Guinness stew and I had traditional Irish stew. The Guinness and beef stew was pretty salty and the puff pastry on top was hard as a rock. Had this spot on my 'must-visit' list for Dublin based on reviews and recommendations and made sure to visit on my first day. I came here with 2 colleagues, and we were seated immediately even though the place was BUSTLING around 3pm. Every corner in here was packed, but somehow there was space and seating for everyone. Loved the decor and ambiance. Our waitress took our drink orders immediately and was attentive throughout our visit which ended up being around a couple of hours. I went with the Beef and Guiness stew and it was such a good choice. The beef was tender, the stew was super flavorful, and the portion size was massive for the price. I polished off my stew and puffed pastry but couldn't get through the huge pieces of brown bread and mashed potatoes. They were delicious though! My colleagues ordered the seafood stew and had no complaints. Thought this place would be mostly tourists, but I noticed a lot of locals frequented as well. Ventured into Hairy Lemon on a busy Saturday night after being recommended to come by our airport driver. The bar is two stories with multiple bars. There are multiple small rooms of seating clusters with wood details throughout. The wood did make noise travel easily and the bar seemed very packed! Our server would check in every so often. The menu offers more classic irish dishes and be aware that the sandwiches listed are only served till 5pm (bummer!). We ended up getting the caesar salad which cane with garlic bread, a chicken burger, and transitional Dublin Coddle. They food was decent but service took too long. This is a delicious restaurant with great staff and a fantastically unique namesake. The restaurant is huge with multiple levels of seating. We were told that it was hard to get a table here but I don't see that being the case, especially if you're coming for lunch. The bathrooms are on the top floor but they are exceptionally clean. The staff are friendly, helpful, and welcoming. If you're visiting, asked them their preferences or get them to help you make your decision. They have great suggestions. It felt like we ordered a lot of food, and that's probably because each plate comes with more than just the dish. We ordered the Dublin Coddle (a historically rich dish), the Irish Stew, a hamburger, a wrap with soup, the lemon cake for dessert, and I polished it off with an Irish coffee. The coddle and stew both come with mash potatoes and thick, deliciously dense bread. All the food was amazing and so good. I had my doubts about the coddle given its description but not anymore; I'd get it again if I were there today. The lemon cake was moist and scrumptious. Lastly, the Irish coffee was the perfect blend of coffee and alcohol with a thick layer of sweet cream resting on top dusted with cocoa. This was a perfect way to end our Dublin/Irish experience. Lots of fun and a must go to! Funny story about how it got its name and it's a classic pub, food and bev is same as all the others but we had a nice time there. The bartenders can be a little cheeky and it's definitely not like a hospitality first place, but again it's on par with all the other pubs and was very popular and fun to see. read more

It was a pretty cool looking pub, and the dollars all around the main bar must have stories to tell. We grabbed our drinks and looked around to find an empty table for 4. While looking for a spot to anchor, I noticed that the Hairy Lemon was much bigger than I expected. Felt like behind every corner we turned was a new room or cute nook. We made our way upstairs and found even more rooms. I appreciated how much more chill and quiet it was upstairs. There were a couple of people watching football on a couch and another customer was working on his laptop with a beer. There were locals in here and tourists alike, so a great mix. The food was wonderful. The Irish lamb stew was wonderful and the Guinness beef stew was wonderful with the bread served with it. The fish and chips were good, but not the best I had while in Ireland. We returned for a late night drink and the place was overrun with locals. That made our night. This Irish pub was literally right next door to our hotel - gee how convenient. It is a rather large establishment and has lots of tables for lunch and dinner service in addition to the bars. Plenty of beer and whiskey offerings and their food is good and I would be remiss if I did not say that it was one the better fish and chips that I had while in Dublin.
