I went here for lunch with my partner and a couple of friends today. They were busy inside so we sat outside. They make you pay right after you order when you sit outside here, which is understandable so people don't skip out on the bill. I ordered the bacon burger and fried mushrooms, my partner had the Irish stew, and my friends had the margherita pizza and the fish and chips. All the food was good. The fries were cooked well and were fluffy and crispy. The patty in the burger was pretty firm and a bit overcooked for me (they didn't ask for a temperature when I ordered so it was well done) but I put a lot of sauce on to help with that. The fried mushrooms were a bit odd. They didn't have much flavor and tasted a little overcooked. The waitress was nice but we only saw her a couple times, she didn't come to check on us. They were pretty busy so I get it. The outdoor dining area was nice but a bit cold even though the heater was on. Overall this place was alright, the food was mostly good but a bit pricey probably due to its location. read more

We bumped into Flanagan's on a very busy Dublin Saturday evening. We were met at the entryway by a "host" who flashed a menu and wasn't at all happy that we didn't care to sit in the very warm rear section of an already warm restaurant. In fact, this guy didn't appear happy about anything as we watched him seating tables of diners without a smile. Between guests, Flanagan's own "Zero Personality Greeter" spent more time on his cell phone than smiling to be sure. Thankfully, our server was much more personable than her co-worker. She greeted us quickly in the comfortable setting and guided us to her favorites on the menu. I opted for the Lasagna (see photo) which arrived in good time and very hot. The chips, which I thought was an unusual accompaniment, did nothing to improve the bland entree. By the way, our server somehow adopted the host's style...she never returned to check on the food, drink levels or anything else. Too bad. She had been a bright spot. There are too many nearby restaurant options offering greater friendliness, service and food quality at fair prices. We'll be trying those places before returning to Flanagan's and recommend you do the same. read more

Arrived at Flanagan's in Dublin fully expecting Cocktail vibes -- neon lights, bottles flying through the air, and a spontaneous dance-off on the bar. Instead, I walked into what can only be described as an Irish auntie's living room with menus. I asked the waiter if they do any flair bartending. He blinked twice and handed me a pint of Guinness with the speed and enthusiasm of a medieval monk. No flips. No tricks. Not even a wink. I tried shouting "Show me the money!" at the bar for good measure. Turns out that's the wrong movie and the wrong country. Only flair I witnessed was the swirl in my mashed potatoes. Came looking for Tom Cruise, left with a shepherd's pie and a deep sense of cinematic betrayal. Showed up expecting Cocktail... stayed just long enough to realize Tom Cruise doesn't work Wednesdays. The place is right smack dap in the middle of Dublin City Centre. You cannot miss this place. When we met some family there, the place seated us very fast. They even had seat at a covered patio. The staff there were nice and accommodating. They even wrapped out wet umbrellas as to not get their restaurant and out self wet. The food their was ok but dessert was amazing. If you want to try some Irish food I would start here and explore other places as well. They have everything you need and some more. read more

I had lunch here one afternoon while visiting Dublin. I will say, it was one of the best meals I had on my trip to the United Kingdom. I ordered the bangers and mash. I ate both sausages, some mashed potatoes, and as much of the onion gravy as I could scrape off of the bowl and the potatoes. It was absolutely wonderful! read more

This restaurant is located in a great part of Dublin with plenty of pubs and shopping nearby. Our food was delicious and hot when it arrived. I ordered the bacon and cabbage, which was a huge portion that I couldn't finish but it was cooked perfectly. Our son had the bangers and mash which promptly disappeared​. My son and husband both had the whiskey sour and proclaimed it to be one of the best they had in Ireland. The ambiance is very nice with rich brown woods and a lively crowd of patrons. There is outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The only reason for the 4 stars​ instead of 5 was service. Our server was very curt and hard to get to come back to our table. Great atmosphere & quickly seated! Food and drinks came out relatively quick. We loved everything we got and all drinks were delicious & strong. Unfortunately they were out of mussels, which we wanted as a starter. We split a Caesar salad instead and it was good! Had chunks of bacon in it. Lamb shank was the best we have had since being Ireland! The gravy with it is great, as were the mash. The soup of the day was a vegetable soup, which had more of a pea taste than expected. My friend who ordered it doesn't typically like pea soup but she still enjoyed this soup surprisingly. The shrimp scampi had good breading, but a lot of it. It was crispy, and sort of bland without being bad. Being from the United States I expected the shrimp to be on pasta, but it came on a bed of arugula. It came with fries (chips?). My mom said she would definitely order this again. We finished with some sticky toffee pudding. This has become a favorite while in Ireland & Flanagans did not disappoint!! Definitely recommend as your dessert! Our week long trip has ended with us here at Flanagans and I couldn't be happier. Everything was perfect! Service was too notch too. They sat me right away, had good recommendations, and food came out as fast as it possibly could. The lamb shank I had fell off the bone, with the best tasting gravy I've ever had (sorry Mom). My wife's lamb stew was also amazing, seasoned to perfection. As a tourist, I appreciated having a section on the menu for traditional Irish foods. I felt very welcome here, and the location is a busy area with lots of shops to wander through before and after. For dessert, I had the apple pie, where my wife had a banoffee slice. read more

Flanagan's was the final stop on the Traditional Irish Musical Pub Crawl Dinner Show. Being the final stop this is where the dinner show was to take place. For €43 a person gets a 3-course meal including coffee or tea. The dinner show integrates the final session of the Traditional Irish Music Pub Crawl in a more intimate setting. For show only or to do a-la-carte dining price is €16. The dinner takes place at the downstairs Speakeasy Lounge. There are several groups of tables facing a stage. The stage has an interesting prop - a little framed photo of Count von Count (of Sesame Street fame) 1. Starter - Flannagan's Seafood Chowder, Homemade Brown Soda Bread. Think of a clam chowder, replace clams with Irish salmon. The salmon was a tease because this would be a hint to the quality of my main meal. The soda bread was served cool but goes well with the Irish butter. 2. Main - Grilled Irish Salmon, Chive Beurre Blanc. Literally the best salmon I ever had. All the flavor associated with an oily fish yet with the texture of a white fish - the best of both worlds. The sauce is a light yet creamy sauce and complemented the fish. There was quite a bit more potato than what is necessary as there was both mashed and boiled potatoes present on the dish. Replace one of the potatoes with a vegetable and the dish would be perfect. 3. Dessert - Traditional Bread & Butter Pudding. Compared to American bread pudding this is a more moist dessert with more sauce. It was served warm. I'm used (and my preference is) a drier bread pudding. The whipped cream helped absorb the cream and goes well with coffee. I had dinner with two other couples from the US. Since it was the five of us it was quite the intimate dinner experience. Not only were we treated to three people who gave us a glimpse into what a session sounds like. The dinner may be pricey but think of it as also a dinner + show combo. If you think of it that way then it's quite a deal. Many thanks to Rick Steves for the suggestion of doing the Traditional Irish Music Pub Crawl as an orientation to one aspect of Irish culture. Turns out the two other couples joining us learned it from Rick Steves as well. Came here for a light dinner one night while in Dublin. We ordered a Caesar salad and salmon salad which both were good. The service was a little slow and it wasn't a happening place. It's more like a local joint for older people that just want a quiet meal. We sat outside and people-watched while we ate, and washed it down with a Guinness of course. The food came out quickly but then again there was no cooking involved with either of our meals. One of my personal favorites while on a business trip in Dublin. Went there two nights in a row, something that I've never done at any other restaurant. Restaurant is cozy and elegant with an excellent offering of classic Irish dishes as well as American flare of burgers and pizza! The first night I had caesar salad and a meat lovers pizza. Both were fantasic! Finished off the meal with an Irish white coffee, also delicious. The second night I had another caesar salad followed by the Roast Chicken with vegetables/mash. Finished off this meal with the Apple pie/Vanilla ice cream. Wasn't a big fan of the apple pie, but certainly won't hold that against them considering everything else was a hit! Located beside McDonald's on O'Connell Street, this was where 1980s children went for special occasions, to enjoy the itchy red booths, covered in what appeared to be a kind of a carpet, attentive waitresses and the delights of a knickerbockers glory that you would have to kneel up on the seat to reach. 20 years on and it is still going strong - they even have a guy with a sign at the top of Henry Street advising you to pay a visit. The décor has been updated somewhat since the 80's - though not by much - and the menu remains much the same. Think boiled collar of bacon, omlettes, stew, salmon, stuffed chicken breast and the like - country people who call lunch dinner will love it. It still does that knickerbocker glory, for the bargain price of €6. read more

When at break from work, and hankering for a roast, I have, from time to time, wondered into Flanagans. And it has always been reliable. It has always reminded me of a restaurant from down the country that somehow has found itself slap bang in our nations capital!! It basically does grub well and such very well and up to my last visit I would have given it an easy 4 stars. It's after getting a facelift and for some inexplicable reason, has installed a bar on one side taking away about a third of the seating in the area. Why? Honestly, I really cannot imagine anyone popping in here for a quick (or slow) pint!! Also the floor manager was pretty awful, making no effort to hide the dressing downs he was giving his staff on what was a very busy period. It was uncomfortable to see and hear and and unpleasant experience!! read more

Stopped in for lunch recently. The inside of the restaurant smelled fishy, so we opted to sit outside, which was a big mistake. So many people were smoking out there and the bums were coming in to have a sit. One man was chain smoking and ordering a pot of tea and more milk every 5 minutes. The food was OK, but I get totally ripped off when we were forced to pay before we got our food (I didn't have an issue with that) but he waitress basically forced me into tipping her. What I get was a rip off was the €6 garlic bread which ended up being four extremely small pieces. After adding on for a tip, which was unwarranted, the expensive garlic bread was a sham. read more
