Very cute little restaurant in Temple Street! This is a gem in the middle of a high traffic and tourist intense area. Very romantic and relatively quiet, it was perfect for us having a baby who had just fallen asleep! There is limited seating and it got full fast. We tried the seafood chowder and Irish stew and both were light and delicious! We also had their homemade bread which kept getting better at every taste! I don't think they have a liquor license but they service zero proof Guinness and wine as well as craft cocktails with mead! read more

Despite it being packed we were sat within 5 minutes. The food was good and flavorful but I was underwhelmed by the cocktail list. I got a cocktail that had N/A liquor but also (alcoholic) red wine in it? It wasn't bad...just confusing. read more

We came here two nights while we were out bar hoping and people watching. They allow you to smoke cigars on their outdoor patio, so we enjoyed some late night apps and drinks while he smoked a cigar. The staff were nice once you got seated and ordered - but it was required to order food and drinks to stay here. The drinks were definitely the best mixed drinks we had while in Ireland. We were starving and racing against time with our baby's nap time. We popped in here bc it was the only spot that had outdoor seating available in the sun. So glad we made this decision! This is one of the older restaurants in the temple bar area. My husband got the seafood chowder and fish and chips and I got the spicy shrimp. From our time in Dublin, this was absolutely the best fish and chips we had! I really enjoyed the spicy buttery shrimp as well. I'm personally not the biggest fan of brown bread, but their in house grain brown bread was absolutely delicious! The service and staff were great! read more

This was our first meal in Dublin and we had a great time. I had an O'Hara Stout and we shared the Casserole and Potato Pancake which was more like a vegetable crepe. The other girls had the Irish Stew, a Steak and Irish Stout stew, a side of broccoli and a Baby Guinness shot. Food was great. We enjoyed our corner booth and a view of all the tourists outside the Temple Bar across the street. Our server was very busy but took good care of us. This helped kick off our 2-week trip. Great little dining spot with indoor and outdoor seating, right in the heart of the Temple Bar District (in fact, it's right across the street from the actual Temple Bar). They got busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. It was a mild, rain free evening, so we chose to sit outside on their sidewalk patio to people watch. Steak & Guinness Casserole €17.95 Beef, onions, carrots, celery, and mushroom in a rich Guinness sauce. It had plenty of tender beef in it, but very few veggies. Lamb shank €19.95 Braised lamb shank on a bed of buttered cabbage, fresh thyme, and a red wine gravy. It included mashed potatoes on the side. The lamb shank and the red wine gravy was very good, but the mashed potatoes almost seemed like instant potatoes. They only have two beers on draft, and five beers in bottles. Good, friendly service - I would return - just take a pass on the mashed potatoes. read more

The food was very good and they prices were reasonable. I assumed the place would be a tourist trap since it's right next to the Temple Bar but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very good and we didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive. I would recommend going there a little before lunchtime so you don't have to worry about the rush. read more

We were visiting from the states. Our last day in Ireland was spent traveling from Dublin to Galway and then back to Dublin. We were famished and I desperately wanted something hearty. Even more so I wanted a traditional Irish meal. We stumbled across The Shack while walking and looking. The staff was so friendly and were helpful in helping us store our luggage while we ate. The Irish brown bread was phenomenal and I'm now on a mission to try to recreate it. I can't quiet remember our main dishes I know mine had steak and my husbands had lamb. They were great and just what I wanted. For desert I order the meringue dessert on the menu. It was so unique and delicious. The restaurant itself was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place. If we ever make it back to Dublín this will be on our list of stops. read more

So We went to the legendary Temple Bar, which was crowded and noisy and not what we were looking for. So instead we just tried the Shack next door and I'm so glad we did! I got the fish and chips and my wife got the steak and Irish stout stew. Both were prepared with care and very flavorful. The bread was outstanding and everything was prepared from scratch. I had the best time here! Our waitress was so funny and friendly, she was the best waitress ever! The food was delicious, I got the Irish stew and it was absolutely amazing. My aunt got the chicken pasta and I tried some of it and we both agree it was delicious. Their bread is also delicious! Everything about this place was great, from staff to food. Shack Restaurant in the Temple area of Dublin is a great traditional Irish restaurant. As you might expect from the name, they specialize in their shanks. Their lamb shank is their best dish and highlight and I can attest to the fact that it is indeed fantastic. The meat is so tender and literally falls right off the bone, no knife needed. The flavor is succulent and perfect. I had a side of Irish Champ, essentially mashed potatoes with extra butter and spring and thinly cut green spring onions. Very creamy and tasty. Add a pint of Guinness and an Irish coffee and you're set to go! Temple bar is also directly across the walkway, so you're in a convenient location to the night life. read more

Great place for lunch in Temple Bar. My colleagues and I wandered in here, after walking for about 4 hours and needing a beer and a break. We had a full Irish breakfast earlier, so wanted something a little lighter for lunch. I had the carrot coriander soup and salad. It was served with bread, and of course Irish butter. Because butter is wayyyyyy yummier in Ireland than it is in the US. (For real. I have no idea what they do to that butter.) A pint of O'Hara's to wash it down and I was a happy girl. Fantastic location next to The Temple Bar that was a good getaway from the drink and music for a nice meal. Food was all well made and fresh ingredients with nice flavor throughout. I had the prawns in hot oil which was nice but left me wanting a bit more chili but I just admit I like a bit more spice. Flavor was still very good. For dinner I had the Beef Ireland which did not disappoint. My fear was a basic stew but it was anything but. Beef was tender, the sauce was not quite a thick gravy but not thin. It had a really nice flavor. I did give jt a bit of black pepper but I do prefer a bit bolder. But the flavor was really very good. Service was attentive and friendly. After trying to get a table at Temple Bar, we decided to skip it and cross the street to this restaurant. To start, the manager definitely focuses on customer service and tries to have everyone seated as soon as he can. When we went, they were busy!! The manager was able to get us seated in about 15 minutes. I wanted to try a traditional irish dish so I decided to get the Bacon and Cabbage. When it first came, I thought i'd be disappointed but I certainly was not. It was DELICIOUS!! Savory ham, parsley cream sauce, and amazing butter cabbage. So good! There is no car parking in this area, but Dublin city is more of a walking or biking area anyway. Take my advice and walk in this area. There are great street performers to enjoy after having a lovely meal at Shack Restaurant. read more

So visiting Ireland from the states. And walking around Dublin we found this place and wanted to give it a try. It's a nice cozy spot, lots of people. The service is a bit slow here but the food was quite good. So if you are in a bit of a hurry, I would skip this place. On the food, I bought the Lamb shank and my fiancé picked up the Beef Stew. Came with bread and butter and some mashed potatoes. I enjoyed the lamb shank, it was very tender, the sauce was a bit over bearing, but that lamp fell off the bone with a fork. The beef stew was quite nice had a few bites from my fiancé's plate. Lots of flavor and the meat also well cooked not over done or chewy at all. We paired it with a couple of Red wine Cabs. I would definitely recommend this place for a stop and bite if you are not in a hurry. read more

This was my least favorite, most over priced meal I had during my two week stay in Ireland. We traveled over 1200 miles throughout this beautiful country and was hoping for one last fabulous meal before leaving tomorrow. I ordered the seafood chowder, a constant steady during our travels. Let's just say they should of called this potato and carrot soup. Very little seafood and the chowder base was pretty much soaked up by the potatoes.. The staff was not friendly and were not in a hurry to get us our check. Also, the prices were ridiculous, 18 euros for the "seafood chowder" is excessive, even if it would of been made correct. This restaurant is by far the best one we have been to on our trip to Dublin. It's a very small place but it's warm and cozy inside. The atmosphere is great and the staff are very welcoming. From the menu: "Vegetable Enchilada...€15.50 Fresh Vegetables with chillies, wrapped in a Flour Tortilla, smothered in Enchilada Sauce and Topped with Cheese, Served with Rice." I was legit served a ratatouille burrito with a side of Uncle Ben's. It was weird. There was celery in it. Why!? No chilis, no enchilada sauce. This rating is not about food. We never got that far. We walked in, hoping for a great meal based on high Yelp rating. We stood at entrance for a long time. Several staff members walked past. No one even looked our way. Finally, I asked a female employee, "does anyone work this front desk?" She said "no, everyone quit!" I assume she was attempting to be funny. I explained that we were hoping to eat, staff walking past, never a hello, nothing. She explained that she is hostess, bar tender, waitress, and more. I used to own a restaurant. I get it. Especially post Covid. But at least say something like "hello, we'll be with you soon". Walking past many times without acknowledging a customer is tough. You have to try their Irish stew that has a flavorful broth base with large peices of lamb and veggies with a side of soda bread for approx 15 euros. Just one night to get out on the town and have some local fare! I was looking for a traditional pub, but everything we walked passed was in full on party mode... Luckily, the boy pointed out the Shack... We both ordered the Wild Venison Sausages - Pan fired Irish venison sausages on a bed of colcannon with roasted red onion gravy... This was the most fantastic dish on the menu! Not that we ordered anything else, but just reading what was involved seriously made us salivate! When the food arrived at our table we almost fell out of our seats! There were 3 sausages and a load of colcannon! The taste was beyond belief! The venison was nicely prepared, juicy and tender. The gravy was full bodied with beefiness and onions! And the colcannon added a nice tenderness. It was so much that we didn't think we could eat it all! We took our time and enjoyed our evening! This dinner topped off the last night of our vacation! Our server (who I believe may have been the manager) was fantastic!
