A magnificent meal. Make an early reservation and come early. The tables are close together and if you come early you can snag the table for 2 to the right of the front door. The ambience is trad Irish at bar with a very modern menu. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Roisin greeted us at the door and was super helpful making out choices for dinner. Though the patrons are packed in, the sound level was comfortable for conversation and tucked in the corner we had more room than most anyone else. The food was superb. There a Cajun influence to the chef's palate. The seafood chowder is a red chowder, a little spicy, and light. It's of course chock full of fish. The corn bread served with the soup is unique. I asked and the chef flavors the bread with Cajun spices. It's excellent. My wife chose the goats cheese salad. The pastry they held the salad and cheese was so delicate. Our entrees included the beef that melted in your mouth. It's served rare and it's totally tender. The sea bass was also excellent. It's served of the bone with mussels, brocholini in a curry based sauce. It was a very generous portion. The potatoes served with the dishes were great. My wife had a tawny port and I chose the cider-see pic. It was delicious and refreshing. We didn't enjoy dessert and so I can't comment. I highly recommend this place! read more

My second visit to Dublin and to the Vintage Kitchen. Service: Reservation in advance highly recommended. Dinner only with 5, 7, and 9 pm slots for seating. Booked in the afternoon three hours ahead and secured a counter/bar seating for an early dinner. Not a lot of customers went in for the 5 pm slots. All waiters and waitresses were smiling, friendly, and attentive. Food was served in very timely manner, with each dish served less than one minute after finishing the previous one. Drink: Foxes Rock lager brewed in Ireland. Golden color, malty start with a hoppy finish and an interesting twist of a somewhat toasted after taste. Good beer for summertime. Bread: signature duck liver mousse with fresh toasted bread. Duck mousse kept its standard, not as fatty as foie gras but packed with gamey and rich taste. Wish they had kept the toasted flat bread though, because you could spread much more mousse on those! Starter: House cajun seafood chowder with assorted fish and mussels with Guinness glazed bread. Seafood chowder tasted very nice with spot-on seasoning and texture, not overly hot or thick, packed with peppery and spicy flavor, pleasant and warming to sip. All seafood tasted nice, and I particularly loved the mussels for how little foul taste they had, and that even in such a richly seasoned soup they still maintained their unique briny flavor. The bread was hot and buttery, and it went well with the soup, but I wish its sauce was a a little less thick, for the chowder itself could easily seasone the bread well. Entree: Was hesitating between the haddock and the sea bass, and was recommended the sea bass by the waiter. It certainly did not disappoint, Fish was done nicely with crispy skin, slightly yellow-dark grilled outside, and buttery flakes of fresh texture, The seasoning was spot-on, and the fish fillet went well with the sauce. Mussels were as good as those in the seafood chowder. The grapes and raisins went surprisingly well with the salty samphire and together they brought interesting and refreshing textures after each mouthful of fish. A very well done seafood dish overall. Dessert: Sweet mango pudding with biscotti and ginger crumbs, lemon ice cream, and cherry on top. Pudding has the perfect level of sweetness, milky texture, literally melting in mouth. Lemon ice cream and cherry on top worked together well as a citrusy but not stimulative combo. A feat of sweet and sour flavors! Overall: last time there was a hiccup in that they sent the wrong entree to me, so I gave four stars. This time, five stars no question. This place has great service and good food for a very competitive price compared to other restaurants I've tried in Dublin. It is now top of my must-go list of Dublin! read more

We got a reservation here earlier in the week for the 8:30pm seating. They only have two seatings per night for dinner as the restaurant is pretty small so make sure you make a reservation. That said, the tables are very close together so we struck up a conversation with our neighbors and they had walked in and got lucky since someone no-showed. The service was great all night and I loved the ambiance! The menu is fixed price with 3 courses. You can get 2 or 3 courses and there are some which have an up charge. For example, I got an appetizer and entree, whereas the person I was there with got an entree and dessert. I had the prawn risotto and it was so good. It was not heavy and there was a bold flavor. For my entree, I had the prime filet, which was a 10 euro up charge. It was a good sized portion and the sauce and accompaniments were good, but it was too salty for me. read more

We were seated promptly at 830. The place is pretty small but cozy, with tons of awesome art filling up all the wall space. The owners were very lively and attentive. The kitchen is semi open. We ordered a Cajun seafood chowder plus a goat cheese platter to start. The chowder was excellent. Hearty with a nice kick and tons of seafood. The goat cheese was whipped so it was nice and light. The Guinness bread and sweet mushrooms were wonderful additions for a perfect bite. We were pretty full after appetizers but the entrees soon came. A ridiculous amount of food! We had the filet and hake. The filet was a perfect medium rare, accompanied with cheesy mushrooms and roasted potatoes. The hake was nice and flaky and came atop a generous portion of mussels and these incredible rice cakes. If I wasn't so full, I would have asked for a side order of these. Absolutely a Dublin favorite! We booked our reservation months in advance to get seats at this popular restaurant. You can choose a starter, main entree, and optionally a dessert from the menu, and seems like every option turned out deliciously well, both at our table and the ones near us. The portions are extremely generous as well, and the waitress even suggested we hold off on selecting desserts until after we've finished with the main entree. Huge amount of food. Go hungry! In terms of the essential must know tips: (1) Bring your own wine bottle, seriously. Worst comes to worst and you don't drink it. (2) Make reservations. Seriously. The place is tiny and crammed. If you don't have reservations you wont get in immediately. You do have the option of waiting at a bar nearby, and at least from my one experience, I saw a two tables not show up leaving opportunities for others. In terms of the actual food - it was really great! I don't know that it was at that level of AMAZING, but it kind of felt like a home cooked meal. To top that off the setting was refreshingly cozy and definitely different from every other restaurant I saw in Dublin. The place is in a non-descript location out of the tourist throngs. Service is non-pretentious, what you would expect in a good (perfectly run) neighborhood restaurant. The food is incredible. Started with seafood chowder. Was expecting a nice soup, instead got an incredible seafood stew. Plentiful mussels, prawns, scallops, fish, etc with a fantastic taste. I am primarily a beef person but this was one of the best dishes I ever had. The main course, lamb shank, was not much lower. Perfectly cooked large shank with a thick,complex sauce. Just beautiful. Walk past the Screen Cinema, past one of the ugliest high rise buildings in Dublin and down a desolate side street and you will find the Vintage Kitchen. It's a blink and you could miss it sort of situation. Situated beside Mulligans Pub, the Vintage Kitchen is a lovely bright addition to an otherwise grey and dreary neighbourhood. The Vintage Kitchen is a small cosy restaurant but the way it is laid out means the tables aren't too on top of each other so you can keep your conversation to yourself. The Vintage Kitchen specialises in local ingredients and this is evident throughout the menu. It took us a while to decide but while doing so we took advantage of the BYOW policy. The Vintage Kitchen does not charge corkage once you order two courses from their Dinner menu. It's a great deal and the only problem you will have is choosing your two dishes! The food here is divine, think Wild Glenmalure Duck liver crème with apple and date bread and plum jam or Seared Organic Salmon, wild Galway cockles, caramelized parsnip, wasabi and seaweed crispy rice with pink caviar. The only downpoint to an otherwise amazing meal were the desserts, my half-baked chocolate cake was literally just liquid chocolate with a thin cooked layer on top and the overwhelming taste was one of butter. The Vintage Kitchen is a budget conscious restaurant but the food is anything but that. The food is stylish, glamorous and most importantly tasty. The space is cute and cozy and the BYOW factor is fantastic. Our group each had either the prawn risotto or seafood chowder to start. The risotto was quite nice but the portion was the size of a main dish...way too much food! The chowder looked amazing but was just okay. For mains the majority had either the lamb shank or cod, with one chicken thrown in as well. My lamb had decent flavours but I had hoped for something more extraordinary, and the cod was quite bland.
