I was ready to give them four stars but the food definitely earned all five stars. I had not remembered but I actually had dined a year ago on a previous trip to Dublin. The fact I didn't remember it until I sat down did not give me a lot of confidence. It was also a very formal, hotel like setting, and I pictured potential disappointment. Luckily the food won me over. Started with nice bread service, a very interesting bread with incredibly soft butter. My first course was the scallops and pork belly; which was a great combination. The scallops were seared perfectly and the pork belly added richness and heft to the dish; very enjoyable. For a main, the sole menuire was perfect. The waiter did an excellent job filleting the fish, I am not someone who can deal with bones. The fish was tender and the sauce exactly what I expected. I also loved the cauliflower I got on the side, though it is a much stronger/Asian flavor and I ended up eating it after the fish as the fish was too delicate to eat together. The fish was amazing and very fresh! We tried the catch of the day, the dover sole and the salmon and they were all some of the best dishes I've had dining out. The wine selection is lengthy and very well selected. Our waiter Jon was very personable and made sure all our needs were met. The sommelier was also very kind and was there to greet us upon arrival. The ambiance of the whole restaurant is very inviting and eye catching. I recommend dining on the terrace for a great view of the street and some lovely lighting. We had a reservation to eat here on our first night in Dublin. We weren't especially hungry and ordered only two dishes. These were a beef carpaccio and two salads. Despite our modest amount of food consumption, we loved the restaurant. We had a two waiter service situation with one of them specializing in wine, and the other bringing out the food promptly. My Caesar salad was quite good, and I also enjoyed the salty bread cheese on the side. My wife had poached pear, blue cheese salad and she loved it. There are quite a few interesting wines available by the glass and we especially appreciated the sommelier David and his advice. everything we had was excellent, service included. For the first night of our visit, we just dined in our hotel at the Wilde. A pleasant space on the first floor had plenty of room for us at 7pm on a Thursday night. We quickly discovered the sassy nature of our server but enjoyed it and played off of it. My wife and I both ordered the hangar steak and chips. My wife started with a tuna tartare which was the highlight of the meal for her. I started with a hot and chunky bowl of chicken soup. Our steaks were larger than I normally expect for a hanger steak but were a little tough. My wife's steak was cooked a little too rare for her liking but otherwise fine. This restaurant is a dream. Absolutely gorgeous in every way! The food is beautiful and high quality, but 4 stars instead of 5 for food, because my risotto was a bit under-seasoned- (not just lacking salt) and didn't have quite the "wow" factor at first bite. However, the vegetables in it were cooked perfectly. The dessert was unique, a work of art, and a perfect end to our meal. Service was very attentive and excellent. I really appreciated the non-alcohol Champaign and cocktail options- we both drink alcohol, but ordered the zero-proof version since we weren't sure what we wanted to do after dinner, pub-wise. I'd read good things about this place while researching for our trip to Dublin and was happy that they were able to accommodate us on short notice. We really enjoyed our server Hanna (speaking, sorry!), and she was able to suggest a good bottle of wine for us to share within our preferred price point. Positives: My husband and I each ordered a steak and we split two sides - the cauliflower and pomegranate, and the duck fat roasties. His steak was better, go with the ribeye over the sirloin, but both steaks were very flavorful and the accompanying sauces we selected were very good. I enjoyed the cauliflower a lot as it was a bit different but still substantial to hold up to the steak. The duck fat roasties were very good but did not have any duck fat flavor which was a little disappointing. My husband enjoyed the baked Alaska dessert, but it was a bit overwhelmingly sweet for me so I only had one bite. Negatives: I'm not a fan of restaurants that limo guests all into one section. The restaurant was big enough to accommodate guests more sporadically. Also, you don't necessarily need to order any sides as the steaks do come with a very small side of greens and vinaigrette and, I believe, an onion purée. These are not advertised :) The negatives were me being nit picky because I do see room for improvement and couldn't give 5 stars. However, we would definitely go back to this restaurant because we enjoyed our service and the steaks were wonderful. read more

Staying at the hotel so booked a table for 5 in Wilde. The restaurant is bright, spacious and with the windows open feels even better. Tables are well placed so you are not squashed in order to maximize covers. Service was good, for some reason the push for bottled water is a bit over the top. The wine list is OK but I think perhaps a revamp might be in order. The Gin selection is extensive with limited craft beer on offer. Food was also good but perhaps some dishes were a bit heavy on seasoning (salt mainly). Overall a solid 4 but room to improve especially as the hotel itself delivers the 5 experience. read more

Apologies for the delay in posting, I am updating all my dining experiences (that I can remember) from this year. I ate here after seeing the voucher on Menupages (thank you Menupages). This is not somewhere I had heard of before, but being the Westbury I was expecting a good standard. I was not disappointed, from the moment we arrived the service and welcome was exceptional. We opted for the 3-course set menu which is €30 per person; even without the 2 for 1 voucher this represents great value. The choice for all courses is excellent for a set menu and covers all tastes. It is not just the food you get, but the extra's including a complimentary glass of wine because we booked through Menupages, excellent and endless breads and dips, homemade chocolates. And to top it off all diners are presented with a small package containing the seasoning they use on their steaks as you leave. The quality of the food, level of service and welcome means that we will be back to Wilde! It was disheartening to see that the restaurant was very quiet, however I expect that is due to not many people knowing about it. I would urge anyone looking for a high quality dining experience at reasonable prices to try here! read more

I took a big group here, so got quite a good overview of the food. Unfortunately the general consensus was mediocre. I had a pretty good rabbit terrine, but other people's starters included a soggy tart and badly seasoned soup. For mains, most of of went for the steak option, which were all massively overdone and tough, though the chips etc that came with it were reasonably good. For dessert, I had the uninspiring cheese selection, and the apple tarts had a distinctly multiple-re-heat kind of taste. For the wines, I'd asked the restaurant to recommend a red and a white that would go down well with the group - the Malbec was pretty good, but the Chardonnay instantly forgettable. The decor and atmosphere is distinctly hotel-y, so perfectly OK but not exactly inspiring or memorable. The thing that basically let the place down most was the service. Everyone, particularly the managers, were friendly enough, but everything was just really inefficient. Steak knives came ten minutes after the steaks (and there was no way anyone was getting through those suckers without one) and the same thing happened with cheese knives. Getting attention was always a bit of a challenge and everything was pretty slow. Now, I realise that serving a biggish group can be an challenge, and they might have been short-staffed because they's had a massive event that afternoon, but it did mean that (having arrived at ten) that we didn't leave until half twelve. After my husband's disappointing late night snack at Cafe Novo, we did not have high hopes for Wilde. Surprisingly, Wilde surpassed our expectations both in service and in food quality, and helped restore our faith in Irish cuisine. My husband and I are self-proclaimed foodies, so unlike typical tourists, we are not looking for the common Irish food fare like beef stew, etc. What we want is for a chef to bring out and even enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients indigenous to the Emerald Isles. That's exactly what we got at Wilde. Our favorite was the carpaccio with aged Irish beef. The meat was very tendor, and full of meaty flavor. The horseradish gave it a strong kick, but not too much to overpower the beef. The rabbit stuffed with mushroom was good. Perhaps a little bit overcooked, but can be easily overlooked because of the wonderful wild herb jus. The mashed potato was also delicious, maybe a little bit on the salty side. We couldn't really distinguish the white truffle taste, but the mash tasted like the potatoes have been cooked in a powerful beef stock, and was just full of umami goodness. For dessert we just asked for the ice cream, but it was anything but simple. We had 4 different flavors of ice cream -- French vanilla, custard, chocolate, and strawberry + orange. They were all creamy, rich, and luscious. Sometimes it's amazing how simple things can taste so good when they are done right. Of course the petit fours didn't hurt either. :) Albeit pricey, we were happy to be able to finally appreciate the true flavors of the local ingredients, thanks to Wilde. read more
