Came here with a bunch of friends. First of all definitely get a reservation. It gets busy and there's a line. Please also note that if you're over 10 minutes there's a possibility they'll charge you per person for the reservation so take time to come early because parking can be sparse. In summation everything we had was okay but there were indeed some major standouts. The mehs: the beignets (these were what were touted as the best but they were disappointing :/), the duck and waffle and the avocado toast. The HELLS YEAHS were the curry Hamburg and the shakshuka. The sauces on these were chefs kiss. Highly recommend. For drinks please note they only have mimosas, wine, and beers. So no cocktails. If you do get the mimosas get the yuzu one! Special shout out to our server Vi! Made sure we had a great time! There are tables outside and in but it's very bestie brunch vibes or date brunch-y. All in all is this place worth the hype? Only if you get the right things and don't have to wait too long in line. It's also kinda pricy so given all that make sure to get the right things to make it worth it.
There's a lot of hype around this place and I don't really know why after eating here. Our server was rude and the food tastes forever to come out. Another problem I have is that the menu literally says, "Substitutions or modifications are politely declined!" That is insane that they won't make accommodations for people. What if they have allergies? Let people enjoy the food how they want/like to. It's not your call. We started with the Beignets. These were very dry and tasted old. They serve the black sesame mascarpone and matcha cream in one dish, which stinks because the matcha cream is not good. I got the Duck & Waffle. The duck was easily the best thing here that we had and the passionfruit guava sauce (made in-house) was light and lovely. Unfortunately, my waffle came out cold and when I told my server, she said, with no emotion, "I'm sorry about that." Then, turned around and LEFT. They didn't fix my dish at all. It was insanely rude. My guy got the Latke Egg Benedict, which stunk of fish and tasted like old fish. We had to send it back for them to remake and it came out better the second time. Very concerning they would serve old salmon to their customers when you could smell it had gone bad. The latka wasn't too thick, which was nice, but the dish didn't have much flavor to it and wasn't anything special. The duck is the only good thing on the menu, but it is not worth dealing with the issues like rude staff and rotten fish.
The beignets were good and our brunch entrees were nicely prepared. Ambiance is nice with an open air concept. The only thing is parking is very difficult and the service times were slow.
Between Us is such a cute and trendy brunch spot in San Diego. We stopped by on a Saturday morning with our 2-year-old and didn't have reservations. Luckily, they were able to seat us at the large communal table near the entrance, which was totally fine. The place had a really fun, youthful vibe and was pretty busy with lots of younger groups. Since we had our toddler with us, we kept things pretty simple and shared the Two Eggs Your Way Breakfast and the Cornbread & Co, along with a Tiramisu Matcha Latte. I was really excited about the matcha since I saw quite a few people ordering it, but unfortunately it was probably my least favorite thing. The matcha flavor wasn't very strong and the drink tasted a little watery to me. The food was much better. Even though the breakfast was pretty basic, it was really good for sharing with a toddler. The toast with butter and jam and the crispy potatoes were definitely the stars. The fried chicken that came with the cornbread was also really tasty. Service was a little slow. It took about 15 minutes for our server to come by and take our drink and food order, and the food took a bit to come out after that. So I wouldn't necessarily come here if you're looking for a quick breakfast spot. It's definitely more of a sit-down, take-your-time kind of spot. This neighborhood is street parking, so plan accordingly. I'd also highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends, since it seems like this place can get pretty busy.
I came here because my friend has been here a few times and really likes it, so I was excited to finally try it. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd come back. First off, parking is a pain. You're lucky if you can find street parking, and since this place gets pretty busy, I'd recommend making a reservation. I ordered the Mushroom Chazuke with Poached Egg ($24) because my friend recommended it. Honestly, this is so not something I would normally order, but I figured I'd give it a try. It's definitely Japanese comfort food, but to me it was basically rice, mushrooms, and broth/stock with a poached egg... for $24. I just couldn't justify the price for what you actually get, and honestly felt like it was a waste of money. I also tried the Brûléed French Toast with Poached Pears and Cream Cheese. Unfortunately, a lot of the top was pretty burnt and tasted bitter. I'm not sure if that's intentional with the brûléed style, but the brunt parts were too bitter for my taste. Overall, it wasn't the best French toast I've had, and for $20 for just one slice, it was overpriced. For drinks, I had the Butterscotch Matcha Latte, which was okay but nothing memorable. My friend got the Yuzu-Ade with sparkling water and said it tasted pretty flat and wasn't sparkling enough. Overall, Between Us is basically brunch with a Japanese twist, which sounds right up my alley because I love both Japanese food and brunch food. Unfortunately, the food just didn't do it for me. Between the high prices, portions, and flavors, I didn't find anything that made me want to come back. Honestly, I probably should've just ordered the Duck & Waffle instead haha. That's the one thing I'm kinda kicking myself for not trying. Maybe that would've changed my mind, but based on what I had, I wouldn't return.
Soo good!! Cute little brunch spot perfect for a weekend bite. We made reservations for our party of 4 so were seated immediately. Our waitress/server was super sweet and gave us her recommendations and they were awesome. We started with the sweet beignets. They were light and airy - we liked the sesame over the matcha although they were both good. The mushroom appetizer was amazing and fried to perfection! The yuzu sauce and garlic crisps paired so well with it. The star of the show for me was the chazuke with grilled fish. It reminded me of the simple meals in Japan. I would definitely order it again. The butterscotch matcha latte was sooo good too. I ordered that with regular milk. I will come back in the future with my family!
Super cute brunch spot in North Park, and we were glad we got a reservation because seems like this place can have quite a wait. Parking can also be challenging around here. The dishes seem to be inspired by other ethnic cuisines, but hey, they work! I like that they offer complementary sparkling water as an option, which was very refreshing with the recent heat wave. I also got a sparkling Yuzu-ade and was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the Yuzu flavor tasted without having an artificial aftertaste linger in my mouth. We got the beignets and cornbread for the table to share. The beignets were served with a matcha and sesame whipped dip, and I enjoyed the matcha dip better but both were flavorful. The cornbread was only one piece and came with a piece of fried chicken, which was less ideal to share between 8 girls. Maybe because I didn't get much of a bite with the cornbread , but I preferred the beignets more. For my main dish, I got the mushroom chazuke because I was craving something brothy. They serve the broth on the side so you can control how much broth you want to pour over the rice. This was very tasty and had a very earthy and umami flavor from the different types of mushrooms. I wasn't a fan of the garlic chips on top of the rice and picked them out. It did become rather overwhelming halfway into the meal, so I might recommend sharing this and another item to break up the flavors. I was also considering the hamburger curry, but after trying my friend's, it was nothing to write home about. Overall, the ambience and service were great, food was tasty, and I would return to try some of the other items on the menu in the future.
Food: 9.5/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 9/10 between us has always been somewhere ive been wa to go to, but I've been to in San Diego. Find you I'm a really big brunch person. For reference, my favorite place is sugar and scribe. there's a mushroom rice dish and it was my favorite. I love how all their dishes weren't salty and honestly everything we got fit my taste profile. All my friends got matchas and a black sesame latte. Those were really good as well as someone who loves Matcha, it really hit the spot so I will most definitely be coming back. We also got the eggs Benedict and the beignets. Everything was so yummy.
Searched up brunch spots and Between Us was the first place that came up, so we decided to give it a try. TLDR: terrible host We were told they needed to clean a table for our party of 2, so we waited a bit before being seated. As we walked to our table, I noticed there were plenty of open 2 tops, but the host with silver/purple hair sat us right next to a group of 5. It felt cramped, and the group was talking so loudly that I could barely hear myself think. We asked the host if we could move to one of the open tables for more space but it seemed like such a big deal, he had a terrible attitude. He said that a party was going to be sat at the one he was setting up... but the others remained open?? They ended up seating the incoming party at a completely different table. By the end of our meal, the tables we asked about were still unoccupied. What made it even more frustrating was watching another party of 2 come in and get the option of choosing any of the open tables, which was never offered to us. We ordered the beignets, duck & waffle, latke egg benedict, yuzuade, and matcha latte tiramisu. They were out of the latke, so they substituted it with a waffle. The yuzu hollandaise was extremely sour and tasted off, almost like it had gone bad, and the texture was really mushy. The matcha latte tiramisu was also such a letdown. It tasted like water even after I mixed in the foam, so I asked our server to take it off the bill. We ended up spending $76 for food that was just okay and service that was pretty disappointing. I wouldn't waste my time coming back, especially considering how rude and difficult the staff made a simple request to move tables feel. I had high hopes after seeing all the other reviews, but unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to them.
Visit July 2026 Bougie breakfast time lol! Invited by some family members who like this place a lot. Consider me sold. Food: Beignets-fluffy, come out hot, though not evenly sugared. I watched the table carefully pick around this one lone barely sugared piece. Ngl, I like the ones at Disneyland better. Both me and a daughter ordered the Chunky Avocado Toast with a poached egg, we both felt that the toast was a little tough. Good avocado spread and the egg oozed well. I tried their house hot sauce with it but wasn't too impressed with it. I also ordered a side of the House Potatoes. These were awesome. Crisp outside but not over done , well seasoned. Totally recommend. Wife ordered the Mushroom Chazuke. Mix of seasonal mushrooms. She liked it a lot. Tastes some of the mushrooms. Earthy but not overbearingly so. The wild rice and poached egg made for a pretty good mix. Other daughter got the Curry Hamburg. She likes her curry, especially Japanese curry. While she did not get transported to Tokyo she did give it a thumbs up. This place is pretty busy and I was fairly impressed with the attentiveness of our waitress. Waters kept full which was handy as it was a bit hot and my car was a good walk away. Would like to visit again and try other menu items.
Really cute brunch place in North Park. I got the Pomelo salad to share and curry hamburg. Salad was refreshing. I enjoyed the curry hamburg, and it was a big portion that filled me up quick. We also shared the beignets and it came with black sesame/matcha dip. They were light and fluffy and paired well with the dips. Best eaten fresh as they cool down pretty quick. For drinks, I got the Matcha Tiramisu Latte and Matcha Yuzu Mimosa. The latte was more matcha. I didn't really taste any tiramisu in my drink, but the matcha was good. It definitely is on the low sweet. The mimosa was good as well. At first, wasn't sure if the flavor would pair well as a mimosa, but it was good! The matcha and yuzu blend well. Someone else had a yuzu mimosa, but it too sour for my taste. The yuzu with the matcha definitely helps reduce the citrus sour taste. Service was friendly and fast. Since it was a busy Sunday, they already explained in advance that food might take longer to come out, but it didn't feel very long. When I went, we had a live musician playing. Personally for me, it was a bit loud, so it was hard to hear everyone at my table. But, Im sure other people appreciated and enjoyed the live music. I just prefer quieter environments, and that's my personal taste. I would be willing to come back for a special occasion again.
Cute spot! Came on a Fri for lunch at 11:30. We had made reservations but we probably could have gotten seated right away even though the place was decently busy. The space is also much larger than I thought it'd be. They have tables for larger groups and smaller two person tables. I got the simple toast and made it "extraordinary" (matcha cream and berries). Also added a side of chicken patties. My friend got the burger and beignets. The toast was delicious!! It's a housemade shokupan that was perfectly fluffy and had a nice buttery taste. The matcha cream was really light and the berries were good. The chicken patties you could tell we're homemade and had a light sweetness to them. Very good. I think the only downside was the beignets. If you've had them in new Orleans these were a sad comparison. The dough didn't have that much flavor and the inside texture was light but the outside was a dry, crusty texture. The matcha and black sesame dip it came with was nice though. Service was a little haphazard but friendly. I'd come back and try out some other items.

I came back here thinking I'd try something new but the mushroom chazuke was calling to me and I had to answer. Still so good, and a little improved, they got the salt level down a little and it was perfect this time. It was super busy on a Sunday for brunch, totally different vibe from the weekday. We had a 35 minute wait around 11am, but the hostess was great and called us when our table was ready. Service was good, drinks came out fast, and prices were what you'd expect for brunch in this part of town. Street parking only. Great for anything from a casual brunch to a low key celebration brunch. I love this place! read more

Went here with the grandkids who said it's a new hip spot in San DiegO. As the kids say, it was "LIT AF"! My granddaughter ordered a tiramisu matcha that she said was amazing. I attached a photo. I ordered the "mushroom chazuke", which is apparently a brothy rice bowl, and it was GREAT. Would comeback again if I lived here. read more
I saw this place on social media and wanted to check it out. It's a very relaxed vibe with 90's/00's music playing in the background. We walked in at 10am on a Monday and were greeted and seated right away. Our server was great and gave good input on what to order. We shared the beignets and avo toast, I had the matcha and Benedict and my partner had the OJ and the duck. The food was tasty and we'll be back to try the mushroom chazuke soon. read more

Service, vibes and food were great. We came on a Monday morning a little after opening and it was pretty empty. The favorites were the seasonal beignets with matcha and black sesame spread and the duck waffle. It's nice they offer complimentary sparkling or still water too. The black sesame latte that I got hot was alright, but the matcha tiramisu latte iced was nice and bitter in a good way. Curry Hamburg was a big portion. Overall delicious and their music playlist inside was on point. Street parking in the neighborhood. Fair prices for quality and sizes. Don't sleep on the beignets, they're hot and airy, delicious! read more

Food was super slow, matcha was subpar, it's like a wind tunnel with the windows and door open so it's freezing inside. Overhyped for sure. If you go ask for the drinks super sweet (they don't add much sweetener), and wear extra layers cause it's freezing. Prepare to wait an hour for food. read more

The highlight of my meal was the corn bread & co. The fried chicken was very juicy and flavorful, I also appreciated the crisp on the cornbread. The matcha with strawberry was yummy and not too creamy or sweet. The sweet beignets were kind of skimpy on the powder sugar as you can see in the picture. The dipping sauces aren't strong on flavor so the sweetness of the powder sugar was missing for sure. The latke eggs Benedict was kind of a miss for us, prepare for a mix of smokey and sour/ acidic flavors if that sounds good to you. The service was fine. If you go on a beautiful day the restaurant is very open with a nice breeze. I see now from the reviews they offer a fly stopper rotating thing this would be nice if they offered it. This new restaurant is absolutely incredible! From the moment you walk in you're greeted with such as sophisticated and welcoming decor! I was extremely impressed with the selection of the food on the menu. Their house made beignets came out perfect, fresh in hot and with an incredible matcha topping to put on it. I ended up getting the duck confit waffles for my main meal and they were amazing! Duck was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of crisp and full of flavor and seasoning, and the waffle was also very flavorful and cooked perfectly as well. The house made guava syrup for the waffles was such a pleasant surprise! 10/10 def recommend and can't wait to go back and try! Our serving V was also really nice and gave great recommendations for us to try! read more

one of the best breakfasts I've had in a LONG time!! it's a cute place with stranger things decor (not totally sure why but I thought it was fun). our server was friendly and helpful. I came too late to try the famous beignets but they looked delicious. my tiramisu matcha was delicious, though I did ask for some simple syrup to add because I prefer a sweeter drink (which they were happy to provide). the breakfast tartine was incredible and don't miss the breakfast potatoes! they were crispy and delicious. overall a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back for more. read more

It was a long wait but it was worth the wait.difficult to find parking. You gotta know how to parallel park. I ordered US Fried rice. It was so good taste like Paella without the works. Fried was juicy and tender. Sausage and bacon was ok though( I am easy to please) serving was enough for 2. My wife ordered the Chazuke it was also good. My wife's cousin ordered the French toast brûlée banana. Also was good. Our appetizer was the fried maitake mushroom that was the highlight of my breakfast. This place is so cute! Definitely for the cutesy Instagram stories, but would not recommend for the food or drinks. Staff was very friendly and helpful with questions on the menu. They do get quite busy so service can slow down. The tiramisu and salted maple matcha lattes were very lackluster and just tasted like milk. Cookie crunch french toast was also not to my liking because of the lemon curd, but that's personal preference! Potatoes, however, were so crispy and so delicious. Loved them! The hype is so real at Between Us! The girls and I stopped in for a weekday brunch to celebrate my early birthday, and we were completely blown away by everything we ordered. We tried it all--from the simple toast topped with matcha cream, to the mushroom bowl with that flavorful, comforting dashi broth. The fluffy beignets were absolute perfection, and to top it all off, their black sesame latte with a hojicha shot honestly gave me life. The food was incredible, the service was spot-on, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. This is definitely a spot I'll be coming back to again (and again...and again). read more

We came here for the beignets, but was pleasantly surprised by the Latke Eggs Benedict and service. We were seated in 15 minutes even though we arrived to a long line around 12pm on a Saturday afternoon. The host and staff are very attentive throughout your visit. The restaurant has a lot more seating than you would expect. Walkways can be narrow in between the bar and side tables, but you're far from getting bumped or jostled by foot traffic. The beignets came out first served hot with a pillow-y/chewy texture. They were good on their own, but dipping in the matcha and black sesame mascarpone made it even more enjoyable. I preferred the matcha as it was not as sweet while the black sesame has a nuttiness to it. I absolutely love the hollandaise sauce because it was delightfully tangy. Each bite was well balanced with the crunch of the latke, freshness from the microgreens, and umami from the smoked salmon. I would definitely come back for this dish alone, but am excited to try other dishes as well! read more
OH. MY. GOSH. Between Us is AMAZING. The brunch options here are so unique and we loved every single one of them. You cannot skip out on the beignets. Fluffy, airy, buttery, warm and crispy on the outside with the perfect dipping to go with it. The Curry Hamburg and Duck&Waffle were very delicious as well. I found both to be very well-seasoned. This was actually our 2nd time at Between Us, and unfortunately the experience with the hostess this time was disappointing. The food was amazing and our server was great, friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. We didn't have a reservation, so we completely understood that there would be a wait and never complained about it. However, the hostess came across as very rude and unwelcoming, which really took away from what could have been another great experience. We really enjoyed the food and our server was wonderful, so it's disappointing that the interaction with the hostess left such a negative impression. Hopefully, the front of house experience can be improved, as we'd love to come back. read more

Best brunch in San Diego, hands down! Everything they create in-house, from the bread to the sauces to the syrups, it's all freshly made in their kitchen and it shows! At this point, I have probably tried most of their entire menu and nothing has ever been less than amazing. One of my all time favorite dishes is the Curry Hamburg-- it is sooo tasty and filling. Their Beignets with Matcha spread and Black Sesame spread are a MUST. Their Simple Toast is nothing close to being simple in taste, trust me you definitely want to try that one! They work with Ceremonial Matcha so I love to get Matcha Lattes in any of their presentations- Mango Matcha Latte might be my favorite. The service is always perfect, everyone is so nice, patient, and attentive. Since the food, the service, the cleanliness, the looks of the place, and the music is always on point, the ambiance always feels welcoming and inviting. Even though sometimes you can find long waiting times to be seated, it is ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT. But if you don't want to wait, you can always make a reservation as well. However it may be, you can't go wrong with Between Us any day of the week. It always delivers the best quality and taste. read more
THERE'S ALOT GOING ON BETWEEN US (5 stars) ... but I'd like to keep whats "Between Us" hidden so the quality doesn't diminish and get spoiled by the exposure of the masses. If you know, you know. - FOOD: so good - PRICE: paying for quality - SERVICE: excellent - AMBIANCE: simple yet inviting It's a new restaurant - hence their website's being partly finished and misspelled words. But this place is very welcomed to the area! North Park has so many come and go restaurants and feel this one is a keeper. ICED MANGO MATCHA LATTE ($7.00) - Matcha, milk, lightly sweetened. They had regular matcha or an option to add strawberry or mango puree. Little sweet-tart if you want the strawberry, sweet if you want the mango. I'm not a hardcore matcha fan but I do drink it here time to time (mostly iced) and will say their matcha was good and tasted chocolaty-earthy than umami-earthy. Went for the mango matcha and was happy with this choice - earthy, refreshing, and sweet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND MUSHROOM CHAZUKE ($19.00) - Seasonal mushrooms (Maitake, Shiitake, King Trumpet), Koshihikari rice, mushroom dashi, perilla seed, garlic chips, chives. THIS WAS SO GOOD! If you can eat a brothy dish on a hot sunny humid San Diego morning and feel satisfied... then you know it was worth the extra perspiration. So eloquent in flavor and savory to slurp. This is an inspiring Japanese dish with a very clean touch. There is option to add a protein such as the fish of the day but I went with it as is and was surprisingly very happy and satisfied. The broth was light in mushroom and umami flavor, the melody of mushrooms paired well with the brothy rice, and the crispy garlic fragments added for flavor and texture. However I didn't enjoy the garlic as much because they were kind of burnt and bitter, I'd say 75% of them were pushed to the side of the plate and not consumed. If they weren't burned they'd make this dish even tastier. Still, this was an amazing dish. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Looking forward to coming back and having another delightful Between Us moment. Last week my friends came to eat here for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. We were greeted instantly, sat right away and had just beaten the brunch rush. The service was great, attentive, and friendly- they answered and questions we had with the menu. The restaurant was very laid back, and we loved the aesthetic and their vintage beet can wall by the bathroom. My friends and I each got our own lattes- the Hojicha, Matcha Tiramisu, and the Butterscotch Matcha. All of the drinks were fairly good, i liked the Matcha Tiramisu the most. My Hojicha Latte was good, but i had to make it sweeter (the menu does say that it is lightly sweetened). I got the Beef Sando and it was really good, that itself makes me want to go back. My friends got the Chunky Avocado Toast with Salmon and the Curry Hamburg. I didn't try their's but they did say they liked their food and would also come back. To finish it off we got their Beignets! It was their favorite item they had there. read more

We enjoyed delightful beignets with our Iced black sesame latte and matcha latte. The mushroom chazuke with fish was delicious, so was the duck and waffle. Love it that our food was made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients and tasted amazing. Service was great too in a casual but cozy setting. Will definitely come back! read more
This has now overtaken my list of top brunch spots in san diego. The perfect blend of Asian-American brunch eats! The staff were welcoming and the space was clean and spacious. The US Rice had everything I wanted: some fried chicken, some sausages, japanese omurice, etc. and best of all, it doesnt have that American saltiness! This place was great no wait when I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. Street parking was easy to find. Was seated right away. Place was clean and had windows that opened up onto the street which is perfect for a sunny day. Ordered the beignets, a hojicha, and the curry hamburg. The beignets were small, pillowy, soft and came with matcha and sesame sauces to dip in. Hamburg steak was delicious and filling not overwhelming or too salty. The burger was good it felt like i was eating a curry loco moco. Ask them for what seems to be homemade hot sauce to jazz it up it was delicious and gave it a kick. Will def be back! read more

I love the unique asian fusion with the foods here. My favorite dish so far though has to be the french toast which came with a delicious lemon curd. Add the berries! The staff was friendly and very helpful. Also, the cafe was chic and simple, making for a great hang out with friends. I do wish they were open for dinner with a dinner menu though! read more

Came on a late Sunday morning and waited about 30 minutes to get seated for 2. We sat in the front area with a nice open feel the breeze atmosphere. There is a back section but we preferred where we got sat! Our server was so friendly and provided great service. The beignets are a MUST. They were fried perfectly and paired well with the matcha and black sesame cream. The cream was not rich in flavor but still a nice addition to the beignets. We got the tiramisu matcha and regular matcha that was prepared perfectly but a bit pricey for the size. The star of the show was the Shakshuka. It was so flavorful - a bit sweet and savory. Loved everything about it and the focaccia was toasted to perfection to dip. Would come back just for the shakshuka! Highly recommend for a delicious brunch spot - there's so many enticing menu items to try! read more
