This place is so chill. Whoever did the interior design hit it right on the head. There's plenty of seating, the back patio space included. The workers were super friendly. On my most recent visit, I planned ahead and came on a weekday instead. It was still busy, but much calmer and a lot easier to find a spot . We came here every morning of our 3-4 day vacation, so I hold this place very dear to my heart now! The food is fresh and so filling! And we loved all our drinks. Just be careful of some of the small round tables outside that can be a bit wobbly, I spilled my drink a bit due to that so I'd stick to the more stable benches. The inside had a myriad of seating options too so you won't have to ever worry about having space. It's like a mini gift store inside with so many beautiful flowers, cards, knick knacks, and apparel. Found this super interesting cafe in San Diego and it totally lives up to the name. It's definitely the "it" spot for people to hunker down with a book or get some work done, the whole place has a great communal energy. The interior is really nice and spacious, so you don't feel like you're on top of other people. I tried the coffee and tea, and both were great! One unique touch: they have beautiful fresh flowers throughout the shop. I didn't see any price tags on them, so I wasn't sure if they were for sale or maybe a special gift for the moms stopping by (since it's right around Mother's Day!). I brought my fiance and dad here the morning before going to the zoo. I ordered the sweet mint cold brew on a whim and an iced vanilla bean latte and a butter/chocolate croissant. The sweet mint cold brew was so surprising in the best way. I'm used to the mint mojito at Philz, but this was similar and dare I say, a bit better. This is one of my new favorites in the north park area. The combination of good coffee, great staff, and plenty of seating won me over. They have a great combination of outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating. Even with plenty of people there, there was still seating throughout. We love coldbrew and even though they didnt have an option to sample the mint coldbrew they had, they offered to give a bit of the surup to make a little sample using the one we ordered which is super nice. We were also able to get it in a glass rather than plastic which is great as well. My only nitpick is that glass should be the default for people getting it for there. The atmosphere is great too. Second visit back to this neighborhood coffee shop that is so much more than that. This time was for a morning date on Wednesday. It wasn't packed at 9:00am. I got the Ceremonial Matcha and he got a Chai Latte. My date had a wonderful time touching all the cool things for sale: candles, nail polish, cards etc. The space is great. I appreciate both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside for our drinks and moved outside after to soak in some sunshine. My only suggestion would to have more baristas. Happy to see on the food menu there was a vegan option. I ordered their plant based frittata sandwich and the vegan cheese was wonderful. Melted and didn't have a funny taste. I had a study day at Communal recently and overall I would say it is a pretty functional study spot. The cafe is combined with a flower shop and also sells other cute goodies. The wifi is good and there are plenty of sockets. Most tables have access to one. The music is way louder than I would prefer but that is what my earphones are for. The space is also very natural and spacious but it gets cold due to all the windows. Service is really friendly and fast. They were pretty consistently busy and my drink came out with not too long of a wait. I got the mint cold brew, which comes with oat milk (always a plus in my books). The coffee didn't taste that strong and it was too sweet for me. It was more of a beverage than a coffee. It was pricey, but what fun drink isn't these days. Communal is almost all street parking. The espresso flavor wasn't pronounced at all, and the honey/lavender flavor was barely there. And it wasn't even that the drink tasted too milky, but it tasted straight up watery. I also noticed a weird smell in the room to the back of the cafe. It was hard to place what it was, but it was unpleasant enough that I had to move seats. I also agree with many of the negative reviews that the staff are unwelcoming. All the baristas are nice and patient, especially when deciding what to get on the menu as a first time customer. Parking is pretty much just street parking. We ordered the iced matcha latte and an iced chai latte. Unfortunately, the matcha was super watered down and did not have any matcha flavor, it felt like all milk. It has been my favorite because of how cute and aesthetic the atmosphere is, the coffee is amazing, and I love the food.
