My first visit was the double pandan latte and the chance's Vietnamese, I thought the chance's vietnamese was super good and the cold foam hit the spot. My next visit was the Pho' Cold Brew, I would have to say that this is up there as my top 5 places for cold brews. If you want to try something different, I suggest this one for sure. Plenty of seating indoor/outdoors, photo booth for photos (small fee), and pet friendly to the max. Service was quick and easy, super friendly and will make you want to return. The Chance's Vietnamese coffee tasted pretty good--smooth, flavorful, and what you'd hope for if you like a classic sweet, strong iced coffee. The Pho Cold Brew, on the other hand, was a bit of a miss for me. It was definitely interesting and I could taste the coffee, but I can't say I loved it. It also didn't really hit on the caffeine side, though that might just be me building up a higher tolerance lately. What stood out more than the drinks was the vibe. They had a DJ playing music, which made it feel more like a hangout spot than just a coffee run. Another plus: very dog-friendly and clearly a pro-dog coffee shop. I came across this shop's IG profile and decided to stop by today. It is located next to McDonald's off of El Cajon Blvd. Parking can be very tricky in this part of town. The shop is very clean and minimalist, with indoor and outdoor seating available. They offer a minimal selection of drinks and bites, like mocha waffles and pastries. Doggie friends are also welcome to this space, and they even have puppuccinos on the house for them. There was only 1 barista working, taking orders and making the drinks. She was polite and helpful. After i ordered my drink, I went into their outdoor area to take pics in their photo booth (2 strips for $6). Unfortunately, the barista forgot to make my drink since 2 guys ordered after me and kept her preoccupied in conversation for a good 10 mins. She made their drinks right away, and also made the other 3 person's drinks that came if after them. She was very apologetic once I asked her about my drink. What intrigued me about this cafe was it being dog themed at first. I saw they had unique drinks as well so we decided to check it out. We tried the pho cold brew and Chance' coconut cloud which was coconut water with both pandan and ube foam. The pho cold brew was delicious with subtle pho spice notes with the star anise flavor being most prominent. The coconut cloud drink was refreshing and well balanced too. They have a cute photo booth outside for $6 (2 strips and 3 photos) so we tried it! I was a bit sad that my dog wasn't there to visit this place with us or take photos as I was on a short vacation- he would have loved it. There were lots of owners with pups inside as well. They also had a pop up bakery when we went (as well as some pastries in their case) and I saw that later on in the day they would have a dog adoption event! I stayed at the Lafayette Hotel next door during my quick stay in San Diego. I needed caffeine after my flight and convinced my teammates to try Chance's Coffee. I saw that it was hot & new at the time and was intrigued by their unique flavor offerings. At the time of our visit (in December), they offered a soft opening menu with pandan latte, pho cold brew, Vietnamese coffee, as well as a few snack items like mochi waffle and Viet coffee cinnamon buns. I regret not trying the snacks! They looked and sounded amazing. For my drink, I opted for the pandan latte. It was slightly sweet and strong. The pandan flavor was on point and not overwhelming at all. The cafe is small, but bright and offers ample seating. The staff was wonderful and patient. As a dog lover/owner, I love the idea/theme of this place. They of course offer pup cups upon request. They had an adoption event going on outside the day we went, and it looks like they have different types of events each month. I had one of their seasonal drinks, and it was good. I would like to go back and try some of their other specialties too. I got a cinnamon bun, which was a little disappointing, as it was kind of dry, but I was happy with my coffee. Venturing out for some breakfast when we spotted Chance Coffee. It's a small and unassuming coffee shop on the side of the street next to the Lafayette. It caught our eye when we saw their Vietnamese-influenced menu and we thought "hell yeah let's check it out!". The menu isn't overly complicated so we place the order right away. The staff were patient and friendly, it was a very smooth and friendly interaction. We ordered a double Pandan latte, a black sesame latte, avocado toast and a pandan mochi waffle. They all tasted delicious and the drinks were not too sweet. The mochi waffle was flavorful, it has a satisfying crunch on the outside and a good mochi chewiness in the inside. I liked my toast as it came with scallion oil and chili crisp, it definitely brought avocado toast to another taste bud level. There are many solo customers on their laptops, so it could be too quiet to have conversation at times. We tried to keep quiet but it felt like everyone could still hear our conversation lol. A small coffee shop in North Park that is perfect to stop by if you're visiting the Lafayette Hotel. Parking is limited so you may have to walk a bit, but that's North Park for you. This was the cutest spot and a spot like this was well over due. I came here on a Saturday morning around 8:15am and was able to find street metered parking super easily. The cafe was empty around this time but the employees made it super warm, it shortly got busy afterwards. I stayed here a few hours to study and found it to be a great study place. Has a big outdoor patio and indoor seating. They also have wifi and during the weekend it can get busy so I would suggest not coming to study during peak hours but I can see how studying on a weekday would be a vibe. I personally didn't mind the noise and occasional busyness. I ordered the chance's coffee, which was a Vietnamese coffee with pandan and ube foam. They were both a delight and super pretty. The Pho matcha was so good, I texted my neighbor about it and she went about an hour later to make sure she tried it. She got the latte version and loved it as well. I came in with my dog on a walk, he literally pulled me in through the front door. I was suprised they didn't give him a pup cup based on how dog friendly/themed this spot is. I loved their little patio off to the side, I'd never noticed it was there before walking in! Also a plus, they had several tables inside too. Chance's coffee has been on my list for awhile to try since they've replaced Serpentine Cider. I came here twice within the last couple months, and tried their pandan latte & black sesame matcha drinks. I think their pandan latte is one of the best things they make here - the pandan flavor is strong but not too overpowering or sweet. I thought their black sesame matcha was ok- the flavor on that one was much more subtle. A drink here can cost from $6-$8. Each time I've come here there hasn't been too long of a line. There's quite a bit of seating, and a cute photobooth too! They seem to have fun food pop-ups and events monthly featured on their instagram. Also a very dog friendly place. The only con of this place is the parking. It's right next to Lafayette. Just prepare yourself to circle around and if needed pay the meter. Other than that, this place is so cute with really good coffee. There was a line when we went but it went by quickly. It also gives you an opportunity to review their menu. They have one on the glass of the window to the side next to their events. Everything sounded really good and the menu surprised me. I thought this spot might be too similar to Saigon Coffee but their menu is vastly different and showcases what they're good at and what Saigon is good at. We got the Chances Vietnamese Coffee and the flavors of coffee and both foams were distinct and delicious. I can't wait to come back again. The spot is very dog friendly and there was a dog almost at every table outside. If you have a reactive dog like I do, it might not be the most relaxing place since there can be many dogs. I'm a sucker for a delicious coffee shop where I can bring my favorite furry companion! This location has street parking only which can be hard but it's worth it. For being new it's already a popular spot, with almost every table filled up and a line out the door. loved the lilikoi jasmine green tea! it tasted strongly of jasmine, so floral. the passionfruit was more subtle but def made a difference; there were some seeds so you know the syrup was made w real fruit. we also tried the phở cold brew which was like an unsweetened cafe de olla - it wasn't giving 'phở ' necessarily, mostly just cinnamon. both drinks came w a lot of ice so we'll request less ice next time there was a small patio out back w lil viet plastic stools, as well as a photo booth. it was rly busy bc of a pop-up so idk how service is normally, the cashier messed up our order but the other barista was helpful :) read more

Went again recently! This time there was only one worker, but there was no line & plenty of seating available (inside and outside). I ordered the Double Pandan Latte with Whole Milk. This is made with espresso and not their Vietnamese coffee base. I thought it was an interesting consideration to do that, so I decided to try as is first. It was good! I really loved how prominent the pandan flavor was. It reminded me of eating a Vietnamese honeycomb cake aka banh bo nuong. For myself, I think I'd request this double pandan foam/vibe with their VN coffee next time. It wasn't too sweet, which can be a thing for cold foams, thankfully not this one. Something to note: the lid for the double pandan latte kept coming off. It doesn't snap on as great as other lids I've used for plastic cups. I also ordered the Pho Cold Brew, to give it a try. Also, it was for my brother. The drink had a deep depth to it was almost bitter or something for me. The pho spices were a little muddled with the cold brew as the main note I was tasting was star anise. My brother rated it a 5/10. I would not order it again, but their other drinks are def very delicious and I would recommend! (Chance's Vietnamese Coffee & Double Pandan Latte). However, I have had several friends that drank the pho cold brew and enjoyed it, therefore, if it interests you... give it a go! I am in FULL support of a coffee shop that not only serves true Vietnamese ROBUSTA imported from Vietnam, but promotes RESCUE DOGS with proposed plans for hosting adoption events with local rescue groups in the patio. Their rescue dog is endearingly named "Chance", per the name of the coffee shop and logo. It's my favorite name for a boy dog too, my inspiration from Homeward Bound's goofy Chance. And while I love me traditional Vietnamese coffee creations, their blending of traditional with new to create inventive menu options is so fun. I know a lot of these shops are serving "ceremonial uji" matcha creations, but Viet coffee was my main focus during my first visit, so I had their Chance's Coffee made with Phin dripped Robusta coffee, condensed milk, and pandan & ube cream. Quite strong and a little on the sweet side since the foam does impart additional sweetness along side the condensed milk. Their Pho Cold Brew (24 hour steeped robusta coffee infused with pho spices) sounded like another unique offering. I love that their cold brew also uses robusta. Parking is slim pickings, but I definitely will make attempts at future visits as they seem to be doing a lot behind the scenes to uplift and involve the community. read more

I saw a few TikToks about Chance's Coffee and decided to give it a try. The shop itself is super cozy and clean, and I love the minimal aesthetic. The menu is simple but offers solid options for both coffee and matcha lovers, along with pastries. We ordered the double matcha and an iced americano. Double matcha (5/10): My personal preference is a strong matcha flavor with a bit of sweetness. Even though this drink is labeled "double" matcha, it tasted very diluted, almost like there was only a small amount of matcha mixed with mostly water. It felt more watered down than expected, which was a bit of a letdown. It's possible this just wasn't the right matcha drink for me, but paying $9 for something that tasted more like 25% matcha and 75% water wasn't ideal. Iced americano (7/10): This one had a nice balance between espresso and water and wasn't overly bitter like some other places. As for service, the cashier was very talkative and kind to the person in front of us, but when we ordered, the interaction felt a bit cold. The next person after us received a much warmer, more upbeat interaction, which was a little off-putting. Overall, I'd rate Chance's Coffee a 3.9 out of 5. I may have just ordered the wrong matcha drink, and next time I'd probably try the pho cold brew or an ube matcha. I just wish the matcha flavor was more pronounced, similar to Labora's matcha, which is still my number one. read more

The "double" in the drinks refers to the cream top with the syrup and the double pandan latte was exquisite. It was well balanced with the coffee, sweetness, and amount of cream top. Chance's Coffee is a Vietnamese coffee shop that recently opened in the busy El Cajon Blvd corridor between North Park and University Heights. It's right next to a McDonald's and doesn't have a dedicated lot so you have to park curbside, either metered or free if you can find a spot on a side street. The business is named after the owners' rescue dog (Chance) and is pet friendly. About half a dozen tables were available for inside seating. Outside on a side patio were more tables along with a photo booth if you wanted to mug for a camera. A menu on the wall to the left of the register displayed the beverages. There was also a sheet at the service counter that described each drink in more detail. A display case at the counter held several types of baked goods for sale. A line that extended to the doorway was present when I arrived during their final hour of business. From the list of six Signatures, I selected the Chance's Coconut Cloud. About ten minutes later, my drink was ready at the pickup counter. Coconut water, pandan, matcha cream, and ice were the components. The matcha cream was a substitute for ube cream which was listed as an ingredient. The drink was light and not very sweet. I enjoyed the relaxing vibe of the shop as folks were busy chatting or working on a laptop using the free WiFi. The business plans to host future adoption events so I will return on one of those occasions and try another drink. read more
