This was my first time trying kava! A friend of mine suggested this place when I told him that I wasn't drinking. I've seen this place a thousand times, but never really checked it out. We went in and the bartender (what do you call them??) gave me a sample of their OG kava since I've never had one before. I did not like it, but perhaps that's what it's supposed to taste like? The customer next to me said that the OG is usually too strong for a first-timer. My friend suggested trying the "cocktail" version and yes this turned out good! It was a little sweet and served on ice, it was a great, relaxing, refreshing drink. We managed to find a couple of seats by the bar. The place is always packed, but everyone here was very friendly; they would make space for you to squeeze in, chatted with you etc. Seemed like a good place to meet new people. They also have a cabinet full of board games!

Loved the vibes here. Super chill and friendly atmosphere. My matcha latte came out great! I had a nice time reading a book on one of the couches. It's super spacious.

Can you believe that today is my first time as a Polynesian drinking kava? Yup, at nearly 64 years old, I am finally trying this traditional drink. It's just like my uncles described, rooty with a numbing effect in my mouth. Relaxing. Thank you to Jacob for serving me my first kava!

I have been coming here as a patron for quite a while & I always recommend this spot to all of my sober fam. I threw an event here recently so I want to leave a review about the event space. I was in contact with a guy named Jeff who was so incredibly helpful. Jeff really knew his stuff and was very direct so there were no guessing games. The art gallery is used as the event space and it's soooo incredibly beautiful!! They had so much seating and chairs which was great. There were about 35 of us in here and it was still very comfortable. I wish they did a little bit more marketing on their social media for the event, but that's not uncommon for venues. We did a workshop on boundaries and we are hoping to hold more workshops here in the future. It was great for guests so they could grab a drink before the event started and they were able to relax and settle in. They also have two bathrooms so it made that part very easy as well.

Cute spot located in hillcrest area with plenty of seating around. I tried the ube kava and it had a nice hint of ube flavoring to it. Might have to come back another time to try the other fun flavors and the mock version of the kava drinks they have here!

Roots in plastic!

Really love everything about this spot EXCEPT the amount of plastic utilized. Serving medicinal root juice in plastic really broke that barrier. Coconut shell cups are pretty standard. Why not here?! Would have received 5

Great vibes. Good drinks. Amazing Music. 10/10

Drinks, Service, Ambiance, Community, Good vibes, this place has it all. If I lived in San Diego I'd be coming here regularly

While the taste of Kava wasn't quite for me on my first try, the exceptional customer service here more than made up for it! They were so welcoming, offering a free Kava tasting and really making us feel comfortable. The vibes were super laid-back and enjoyable. If you're curious about Kava or looking for a new spot, definitely check this place out!

Ginger kava quad $12
Michiko L.

Loved this place! Chill vibe, friendly crowd and the ginger kava quad $12 actually tasted good. Spoke a bit with the owner Glen who is awesome, btw. We are so lucky that he is making this incredible space available to us. I really loved the bar that is made from a walnut tree. The couches in the front are comfy, and we loved the back patio that has two fire pits and a real Aspen chalet balcony feel. I'm still not convinced the kava is doing anything for me, but I'm willing to keep trying.

The vibe is immaculate: dim-lighting, wooden furniture, nice wallpaper, and dark curtains. Cute but very overpriced vinyl shop in the back, it's more for show. It gets insanely busy here every night. There will always be a wait after 9 PM. Wait isn't long, but it's essential as it gets PACKED inside. Seating is always full and people will throw hands for a table. There is minimal room to stand. Unfortunately, there is NO DANCEFLOOR :,( The bar lines are INSANE and can be hard to follow. But the bartneders are patient and helpful when it's finally your turn. While I warn about the crowds, this place is awesome. 10/10 one of the best spots in San Diego, the staple of North Park.

But you have to be patient as they are often quite busy. The record store and records theme is what they present online but to be honest that is only a minute section of the establishment. It definitely doesn't describe the theme of the place neither. The worker in the record section simply ignored me when I tried to purchase a record and after a minute I had to ask for him to please ring me up. No apology from him. No biggie, I still had a decent time drinking here.

Absolutely popping off for primetime events!! (any playoffs, padres, or sd fc!) Bartenders are the coolest! Dog-friendly and super welcoming but the crowds can get loud. Aside from sports, it's my favorite bar in the area, with a patio, garage doors, and tons of seating.

You don't assume top quality and cooked to perfection meals right off the bat; but at 619 spirits, I have no complaints. After ordering we got our food pretty soon after. It's dimly lit inside but you can still see one another across the tables. They also have sports playing on the TVs. - FOOD - Honey Brussels Sprouts: Pretty crispy but it was slightly overly honey-ed for me. Some clumps had way too much honey and I felt like I was just getting a spoonful of sweetness. Wings: Standard chicken wings, but the Lemon Pepper Seasoning was way too heavy, so it was pretty salty for some bites. Fried Chicken Sandwich: Loved the tater tots - super crispy just like I like them! The chicken sandwich was just OK for me - the chicken itself was a little dry, but the seasonings were good. - OVERALL - Just an OK spot for bites and drinks. Being a sober girlie, I've heard about this place for years and was thrilled to finally try it so we had to order a few drinks. There's nothing quite like being able to look at a drink menu and know you can order anything from it because it's all sober friendly. They have a CBD infused drink part of the menu, a kava section and a mocktail drink section along with a food menu. The food looked delicious but we came here for a night cap after eating dinner nearby. We snagged 3 drinks- I need to check my notes on which ones we got but they were all so good. This is the type of place you can come here for a first date, date night worh your partner or co-work with your laptop. I saw all varieties of people who were doing their thang and it felt comfortable. The theme is inspired by Mac Miller and the decor is intentional and classic. Word on the street is that the 2 female owners had some disagreements with their investor so there's somewhat bad blood and that's always a bummer to hear people especially those in the sober community not be able to resolve their differences after they've made such an incredibly safe haven for us to enjoy. I get it though, some business partners are bad choices but y'all have made a beautiful experience here and I'm so grateful for it. I really like the growing NA trend, and even though I drink, it's great to have an alternative, safer-feeling, and more inclusive nightlife option. I came with a couple friends on a Sunday night, about a week ago. We all drink alcohol, but we've all been drinking less lately. The place was almost empty around 8pm, which we found concerning for its prospective longevity. We also thought the prices were pretty steep -- maybe I'm biased as someone who drinks alcohol, but if I'm getting a mocktail or other NA drink, I'd like to pay less than $15+ for it. Still, I ordered the Ave Maria and thought it was one of the best mocktails I've ever had. One of my friends got the Malibu (he liked it but did complain about the price), and I don't remember what my other friend got. We sat for a while and played Connect4 using the fanciest set I'd ever seen. Some more people came in, so it didn't feel nearly as empty by the time I left. I'd probably come back, but only if I was with someone who doesn't drink and/or really wanted to try this bar. I hope they make it!
