Beto's is a Pittsburgh classic for a reason! If you've never had their famous pizza, be prepared for something completely unique. The hot, crispy crust is topped with fresh, cold cheese and pepperoni after it comes out of the oven, creating an unforgettable combination of temperatures and flavor! The crust was perfectly crispy, the toppings were fresh, and I enjoyed every bite . It's definitely a one-of-a-kind pizza experience that's worth trying at least once.

This was my first time going to this iconic establishment. The server at the front was very friendly and patient while me and my friend decided what to order. I got two slices of pizza and a bottle of water for under $10. She did offer me a cup for water from the fountain for free. One slice was just cheese and pep one slices was sausage, onion and peppers. I put hot sauce on my slices which was available at the tables. It's an order at the counter, seat yourself, they'll call your name when your order is ready type of vibe. I enjoyed the slices - definitely a novelty. Not something I'm dying to try again and again.

I have a special place in my heart for Beto's pizza and always will. Even though it's not my typical go to style of pizza it's always a special treat when I get it. The tang of the tomato sauce with the freshness of the cold cheese on top is the highlight for me. While it has aspects of cafeteria pizza for sure, this is a much more elevated version of it, although it brings up that nostalgia for sure. While I love the freshness of the cheese and the tang of the tomato sauce, the way they do the toppings and the crust is not my favorite. I generally avoid getting toppings on this style of pizza when ordering here for that reason. The crust is certainly unique though just as the rest of the pizza and I highly suggest going here if you are in the area as it has officially became a part of the Pittsburgh experience.

This place was OK but honestly not a huge fan. The service was just mediocre and not extremely friendly. I think they take it for granted that they have a reputation and a lot of people just want to go eat the pizza. The dining room room was polished and looked like it had been redone in recent years. Comfortable seating and a cute ambience. And finally... The pizza... With cold cheese... Is not exactly my cup of tea. I guess there is a big following nonetheless. Give it a try, but meh.

Well, where do I begin ? This past Saturday I was up in Chicago on business and had an early morning flight on Sunday to go from Chicago back to Baltimore and all the flights got canceled so I scramble and got a flight from Chicago to Pittsburgh and then rented a vehicle to drive from Pittsburgh through the snowstorm back to BWI airport to get my vehicle and drive home. So if that said, I picked up my jeep rental from the Pittsburgh airport and drove directly to Beto's to get some pizza and an Italian sub to drive back home for myself and my wife to enjoy. I ordered a slice with extra cheese and a slice with pepperoni and took six slices home along with the Italian hoagie. I did eat both slices there and let me tell you how bad I miss being local in Pittsburgh to stop here often to me. I grew up on his pizza for about 50 years. Whenever the original owner Jim was present running the restaurant and my father knew Jim real well. There's so many people that have pros and cons about the cheese, not being melted and so forth and so forth, but you're not gonna find a better cut of pizza anywhere in a Pittsburgh area in my opinion and that's the same for the Italian hoagie oven baked, of course which is simply fantastic. The ambience is just a very basic pizza shop. They have some table tables to sit down and eat, and they have self serve soda fountain with a nice selection of different soft drinks. The inside is generally very clean when I was there on Sunday night no complaints whatsoever and they do have a really nice selection of historic pictures of the old building and so forth, which brought back many memories whenever I was a child and my dad took me there. If you're in a Pittsburgh area, you deserve to give this place a try even though it's unique on how they do their pizza I think you'll really really enjoy it. The crust is on the money has a nice crunch to it, and the edges are perfect and their sauce is unique and very, very good especially if you get a couple pieces of the tomato under the cheese. It really makes it special. As I get older, it's harder and harder for me to drive from the Gettysburg area across the Turnpike to stop here but anytime we get near Pittsburgh we have to stop. It's a must and a tradition. I'm so glad at this place is still open and I hope they remain open for many many more years to come.

Not a Lunchable! Place an order at the counter. Take a seat. Wait for your name to be called. Modern eatery. Pretty clean. Crafty windows and a good amount of parking but this place was slammed! Massive amounts of cheese! A lot of sauce. Where does one piece end and the other begin? MESSY! the dauce is basic and chunky. I am not a huge fan of tomato chunks. It wasnt terrible. I would do it again but I wouldn't want this as my local pizza parlor. Sauce needs a little something. But I still cant wrap my head around cold toppings like sausage. I will stick to cheese.

On the way here, an interesting question came up---how far away can you live and still say you're from Pittsburgh? I grew up over 2 hours east and still tell people, who aren't familiar with PA, that I'm from outside of Pittsburgh. That said, some say to be from the region you have to be a lover of Beto's Pizza? I've wanted to try this place for a long time. I've watched the "pizza review guy" video and this pizza seems.....interesting? Yinzers say "you either love it or you hate it". For those who aren't initiated -- Beto's cooks the dough and sauce but doesn't cook the cheese and other toppings (unless it's an item like sausage, etc.). So this past Saturday, we happened to pass by and quickly turned around to give it a shot. The place was busy at 11 AM. People traveling in for the football game, people who watched this place on youtube from Green Bay, out-of-towners, etc. I got two slices with pepperoni and banana peppers. So my first issue is with the "pizza review guy's" comment that this is like "Old Forge" pizza. My wife is from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton region, home of Old Forge style, and this is nothing like the fried crust/baked toppings of Old Forge pizza. This is also not like any pizza I've ever eaten and while the toppings were fresh -- it just wasn't good. It was so bad I actually threw away my second slice. The crust was also cold and like cardboard. It's more like a pizza sandwich than pizza. I'm sorry Pittsburgh -- I guess I'm just a Central Pennsylvanian after all.

Wow! I'm truly not even a pizza person, but this one made my top five of all time. The crust is thin and super crisp. The addition of the cold cheese was a game changer for me. I absolutely LOVED it. I won't take points off, but the chunky sauce does give me a bit of the ick, but the rest of it makes up for the need to pick off the chunks. If you're in Pittsburgh, you just need to try this.

    Underside. Nice and crispy!

I love pizza. It is by far my favorite food. I had seen that Beto's in Pittsburgh was pretty popular and they made a "North East Ohio" style pizza. Never had this style, so I definitely wanted to try it. I went with 3 "cuts" of cheese. It was like $6.00...very reasonable. How was it? Cheese Pizza- Ok, so this pizza is served with cold cheese. Weird? Yes. Delicious? Hell yeah! They cook the crust and sauce, and then top your pizza with straight up cold cheese. The crust was nice and crunchy! The sauce, while plain, did its job. The cold cheese texture was awesome IMO (My Brother didn't really like it). I really enjoyed my 2 slices that I had, and could have definitely eaten more. It.Just.works! Try it out! Glad we stopped!

Always great pizza, never disappoints! They are very generous with the toppings. Even when busy we were able to walk in and place an order quickly at the counter. They have several tables for dining inside, you order at counter and seat yourself. If you order a fountain drink you serve yourself and can get refills which is convenient.

No cheese pulls, no slices, no thin crust or deep dish just right in between, completely a new and unique style. We wanted to try something unique and local and found this pizza joint. We are glad we tried this place. If you are in the mood to try something unique and great tasting food, this is your place. The pizza is baked on the oven, almost like a tomato pie, and then cheese or toppings are added to it. Kids were doubtful at the start of the Idea, but when we got our food, it tasted fantastic!!! Except I can not say that cheese melted in my mouth, but it certainly tasted good. We also ordered an appetizer platter, and we all liked the zucchini fry in them. The rest are all okay. the Mac and cheese were very normal. The price point is very normal. Go ahead and order the pizza by the cut and just stay with cheese, and you will be happy !!! The order took closer to 40 minutes, but it's worth the wait !! The interior is maintained neat, this is a place where you order food, you wait at the table and they call your name and you pick up the food.

Great lunch spot. Quick and easy cheese and sausage pizza with a side of steak hoagies was an excellent choice! Busy bodies coming through and keeping everything fresh. Loved the atmosphere and decor, fun family oriented.

I've had this "pizza" before... but I was in 8th grade and we were in the middle school cafeteria. Crust is like pillsbury dough. Sauce has no flavor. The cheese is cold AND flavorless. An the place is just as clean as our middle school cafeteria. Just, no.

Even though it was late we were greeted with exceptional customer service and were seated at a table. Our waiter, Remi with an I and not a Y was absolutely fabulous. He made great suggestions and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the 16 inch pepperoni with bacon. My daughter ordered the pepperoni roll and my wife ordered the meatballs and 2 Bianca slices. My wife's name is also Bianca so a double bonus. Our food came out about 15 minutes later and everything was piping hot. To my surprise the pepperoni came with the real bacon strips on top and not your average bacon bits. The sourdough is top notch as well. I ate 6 of the 8 slices while my daughter ate two along with her pepperoni roll. My daughter enjoyed her roll but did wish it had more cheese. My wife enjoyed her meatballs. They give you 4 and are a decent size. She was only able to eat 3. The Bianca slice is a healthy thick slice. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Driftwood. The service was OUTSTANDING (Remi). The food was good. We ended up staying 20 minutes past closing and didn't notice any change in customer service. This place is definitely worth a shot.

It's on a dilapidated brick road that you essentially have to drive up at a crawl speed to prevent your car from rattling a part, and there's rarely parking. HOWEVER, somehow, this adds to the charm. The journey makes the reward that much better, I suppose. When you enter the pizzeria, it feels like how a pizzeria should. It's small and noisy, and the smells are overpowering. The staff is too busy for small talk. They're making dough (see what I did there?). I love it. The sauce is sweet, which isn't how I typically want a pizza sauce to taste, but it's also what makes their pizza so unique. You won't find another pizza that tastes like this. We were told there would be a wait, but our pizza was ready right when they said it would be. The staff was also extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Parking was a little tricky because of the location, but it was definitely worth it! The standout feature of this pizza for me was the flavor of the cheese (especially when paired with onions) that combination was easily my favorite part. They use a very generous, thick layer of cheese, which creates a rich and indulgent pizza. The cheese is quite oily and can slide off the crust, so personally the amount of cheese and oil was a little heavier than my usual preference. However, the chewy crust holds up well to the toppings, and there was still something really addictive about the overall flavor and texture of that cheese. One thing that surprised me was how good it was the next day when eaten cold. I actually prefer this pizza cold. The cheese and onions complemented each other even more, and the pizza felt a little less oily while allowing the flavors to shine even more. Overall, this is definitely a top-tier pizza place in the area. If you enjoy a flavorful, cheesy pizza with a great chewy crust, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try!
