I have been going to this store literally since it opened. I don't go there anymore. For many years they were the best (even better than other best buys) in service, helpfulness and prices. There has been a dramatic change in all those things. First, there is no longer anyone available to help a customer. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of employees in the store, it is just that they are very very good at avoiding eye contact and moving into a section of the store where you are not located.
Also changed is that the return, warranty and exchange policies Have changed dramatically. Most items are now exchangeable or refundable only in the first 15 days after you buy them. This is especially true of electronics or appliances. Some items can be returned for up to 30 days, but only if you have the actual receipt in spite of the fact that they have your rewards account online and can look to see what you paid for an item and when you bought it. Bottom line is that if you do not purchase the additional cost warranty then you are going to be out of luck when it comes to trying to get in exchange for a broken item or a credit on purchasing a different item.I bought a $300 vacuum cleaner which literally stop working 13 months after I purchased it. The store manager and a number of employees explained to me that without the extended warranty they could not and would not do anything. They told me had I come in the months before they would have given me an address to ship it off to the manufacturer. However they helpfully pointed out that since it was the 13th month, they could give me the address but they were positive the manufacturer do nothing. The vacuum I wanted to get as a replacement, cost $500 in their store and a extended warranty for two years cost another $75. I went to Sears and bought the exact same vacuum cleaner for $350) and it came with a Sears warranty of five years that didn't cost anything extra.
In June and July 2014 I went to the Best Buy store at Lone Tree to get new cell phones. I wanted 3 iPhones, 5S model. The first time I went in, they had a large special display for iPhones and were running a special on pricing. However after spending literally 15 minutes standing around the phone department and not being helped even though I asked several people, I started to walk out. There was an Apple employee in the store working the other side of the aisle for Apple computers. He saw that I've been looking at the iPad display and asked me if there was anything he could explain. He was extremely helpful and took the time to explain the various products and plans. I did not buy that day, which was probably a mistake. I went back a week later to buy the three phones and not only was there no display, there were no iPhones on display anywhere in the phone department. I asked an employee who was sitting behind the desk watching while another employee helped a customer if they had someone who could talk to me about iPhones. He said yes and disappeared to the back of the store. No one ever showed up, and the fellow that was helping the customer and saw that I was waiting also headed for the back of the store as soon as she left. End result no one showed up and I walked out again.
I am nothing if not stubborn. Went back again in the middle of July and again there were no iPhones on display and the two employees behind the counter helping one customer would not even look at me. I went to the front door and told the security fellow that I was leaving because apparently they didn't have any salesman available for cell phones. He got on the radio and called someone to come up and help me. That person showed up, did not know the answers, and said "I'll go get someone." Yep, disappeared to the back the of the store and was never seen again nor did anyone else show up. read more
