Berkeley eye center in Katy has a great office with great staff to match. Not typically what I would expect in a practice with multiple doctors. They're super nice and helpful whether in the office or on the phone trying to book appointments or ask questions. I have never had to wait much past my appt time either, which is a plus. My family has been seeing Dr Bertrand for over 10 years and we love her. Her professionalism and knowledge always puts us at ease cause she truly has her patients best interest at heart. She's very personable and caring. She is why we keep returning to Berkley. However thse front office employees have a lot to be desired. I feel each need a class in customer service. Making this appt was a horrible experience dealing with rudeness and unwilling to accommodate us after we have been loyal customer/patients for so long. This was my first time at a new eye doctor EVER. I've been going to Visionworks since before they were called Visionworks so I assumed that I could just walk into BEC and be seen. I realized that I was mistaken as soon as I walked in. It was like the galleria of eye doctor's offices! Very modern, very neat, very clean, and very spacious. Initially I was told by someone that the appointments are booked 30 days out and that I wouldn't be able to be seen. The actually receptionist interfered and said that she'd assist me. Once I was able to sit with her, she actually found a doctor who was available an hour later! While I waited to be seen, I shopped and the ladies that helped me were sublime! I have a fun, bubbly personality and they made it feel as though I was shopping with my girl friends rather than being at the eye doctor. I ACTUALLY had FUN while waiting. They were patient and very accommodating while I played dress-up. Once it was time to go back, the young lady who did the preliminary check was very pleasant and very professional. The doctor came in and was very professional and efficient as well. He was very young but very knowledgeable. I was very impressed with how fluid the whole process was and will definitely be making this my permanent home for my eye care needs. I HIGHLY recommend this location to anyone looking for a new home for these services. Caplan I am writing to thank you over and over for making such a difference in the lives of your patients, as evidenced by my visit to your facility yesterday with my elderly father. Berkely's reputation "on the street" is wonderful, but when you experience it for yourself, it creates a feeling of inspiration that is so rare today.....I had to write a letter to you. To thank you for taking the time, the care, "going the extra mile", and not stopping until you found out what was going wrong with my father's eyes. Since 2007 we have been to eight doctors.....ophthalmologists and optometrists both....and good doctors! With the exact same results, or variations of the exact same result each time which ended in purchasing glasses that not only didn't work, they made my Dad's life absolutely miserable. He couldn't see except for close up, his driving (and therefore his independence) had virtually ceased, and we were grieving for him as a family to watch this vital, intelligent man subjected to a lifestyle change that was breaking his spirit and appetite for life. And all we could do was watch it take place, helpless to find the answer for him, doctor after doctor. We had absolutely, positively........given up. Until we met Dr. Caplan and Dr. Garza at your clinic yesterday. I could go on and on about how they treated my father with compassion, their incredible intelligence and bedside manner, the professionalism and kindness of your staff, your state-of-the-art equipment and facility, how we didn't feel "rushed" through the system although I know that it cut into everyone's schedule for the day to be sure that my father's condition was properly diagnosed, how obviously well organized and managed your office is...... do you want me to keep going? : ) You will never know until you can feel the weight lifted from your shoulders, to see someone you love have hope again for the first time in 6 years, what it feels like to experience that joy. Please don't forget that, as you go about your day today and in the days to come. I had a great experience at Berkley Eye Center! Scheduling an appointment was easy and the receptionists were friendly. I was called back for my appointment at my scheduled time which is always a plus. I saw Dr. Bertrand and she definitely spent less time with me than my previous ophthalmologist, but she seemed thorough. Overall, the staff was nice, but the ladies at the optical shop really shined. I'm confident I got a pair of frames that look great on me because she really spent a lot of time with me and I tried on a ton of different styles! Been going here for years, but they have outgrown themselves. The only people in the front of the office who actually have maintained the level of care, are the ladies at the checkout (who have been with BEC for years). While having an in-house glasses and contacts center is great, the staff is unreliable. Some are great; some are awful. Your office visit will take the entire morning or entire afternoon even for a checkup that you book a year in advance. You can never get out in under 2-3 hours, so pack a lunch! The doctors are good, but the entire experience is so much more of a headache than it should be. read more

Highly recommend this group! I have been seeing Dr. Doe for several years at the previous location. I had an 8:45 appointment with Dr. Garrett, Dr. Doe was booked up for a couple of months, so you may have to wait to see Dr. Doe. I got to the office a little after 8:30 was signed in right away and was out of the office payment completed prescription in hand in less than one hour. From the front desk sign in, to Dr. Garrett's assistant, to the lady at check out, everyone was so very professional and so kind and it was just a wonderful experience. read more

I'm a client at Berkeley and have had LASIK 21 months ago. I've had an enhancement 3 months ago to get things where I would like them to be and they staff has been very professional. They've been very open with their communication so I know what to expect today, tomorrow, and months down the road. They are also willing to continue to make adjustments so that I'm happy with the results. My wife had LASIK there several years ago and my dad recently had the same surgery there. I would recommend them to anyone looking for LASIK surgery. read more

I have had numerous encounters with this clinic to include comprehensive eye exams and retinal specialist. The best part of the clinic is the optical center. They have a fantastic staffs and the entire clinic is very upbeat. They always have good music playing. My glasses came in exactly as I was told and I am extremely pleased with my new glasses. read more

Worst customer service that I've experienced at an eye care center. I have been trying to get my eyeglass prescription corrected for over a month. I was basically told that I can take my business elsewhere...I definitely will. I only changed providers because my provider did not accept my change in insurance. I will pay out of pocket to go to my former provider who gets my glasses correct and gives great customer service! read more

Wait time was not long, which was great. Doctor was very nice but I cannot say the same for the staff. The assistant was not very friendly and acted like she did not want to be there. If fact, she looked very bored. She was playing with the ends of her hair while I was reading the eye charts. After the exam, I was walked over to the optical shop. The technician that helped me seemed disinterested. Why would I want to spend my money (the prices are not cheap. My total just for glasses was over $900. Thank goodness for insurance) at a place that seems to not want business? I should have left but did not. Next time, I will know. read more

I haven't been to an Optometrist since 1997 when the Marine Corps made sure I could see a target and aim at it correctly. So after a few years of taking my wife to the Berkeley Eye Center, it finally hit me, that I am also on the insurance and should get checked out even though I can see just fine. When I arrived at the front desk, I was greeted with a smile and the young lady was very polite. I forgot to complete the required documentation online, but no biggie, completing them there didn't take long and I was still seen at my designated appointment time. When being called back I was once again greeted with a smile and spoken to in a polite, but confident manner. There was an assistant in training that seemed to already know how to preform her duties so it didn't slow down the process. After a quick wait to see Dr. Bertrand, whom seemed very knowledgeable, she explained everything in a clear concise manner regarding my vision. Lastly I was seen by Optician Christina who seemed to enjoy her job and was very good at it. She picked a few frames off the bat that were exactly my style and I hadn't even said a word. So overall, for someone who is not fond of medical visits and hadn't seen an eye doctor in almost two decades, I was extremely pleased with my visit to this professional office. I came in today with my special needs nephew to get his annual exam. After 2 hours the office determine they could not work with him because he was hyper active so they gave me a referral to go elsewhere. The referral was written on a yellow post it note - name and phone number only. I did not receive no formal referral form like I am used to getting when offices try to pass him on so someone else deals with him. The location they referred me to is 45 minutes away from where I live. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called. They will not be able to see him until December 2017 - 5 months from now. I am beyond pleased with the experience I've had with BEC. From the scheduling to the procedure all went incredibly smoothly. Dr. Garret informed me exactly what my options were and where I could expect to be. Dr. Doe did the procedure and it went extremely smooth, painless, and quickly. The bedside manner of these doctors is also excellent. They made me feel more like a family member than just a patient. After only 5 hours I was able to see clearly enough to drive the the store. The day after I was at 20-20, and expect nothing but improvement in the next month. I would definitely recommend BEC to anyone considering LASIK. read more

Not pleased with the Optical Center service! I ordered new frames and lenses on May 6th and was told it takes 7-10 days to come in. It's been 12 days and I called on the 11th day and had to leave a message on the their voice mail box for a call back. No one ever called be back, so I called back again the next day and apparently there's no one to monitor the phone lines because every single time you call you have to leave a message for someone to contact you back. Someone FINALLY contacts me back after I left a very annoyed message for a return call back. The representative explained to me that the frames I'd ordered "didn't pass inspection" (whatever that means) and had to be sent back and hopefully they get it back by no later than Friday which will be 16 business days. I then asked the representative why no one ever called me to explain to me this issue? She explained that they are using a new vendor that apparently doesn't do call backs..I'm like WTH?! Moving forward I will not order frames and lenses from their Optical Center; I will go elsewhere. read more
