I came in today with my special needs nephew to get his annual exam. After 2 hours the office determine they could not work with him because he was hyper active so they gave me a referral to go elsewhere. The referral was written on a yellow post it note - name and phone number only. I did not receive no formal referral form like I am used to getting when offices try to pass him on so someone else deals with him. The location they referred me to is 45 minutes away from where I live. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called. They will not be able to see him until December 2017 - 5 months from now. Had a wonderful experience with Dr. Bertrand and the the staff at the Berkeley Eye Center Katy location! I was able to get a new patient appointment that worked with my limited availability within two weeks of the day I called. All the staff were so friendly, and took the time to explain everything they were doing and gave me lots of options. Leslie in the eyewear department was WONDERFUL! It took me at least an hour to go through all the different financial scenarios between just contacts and contacts and glasses, and then look a ton of frames, and then lens options. Not pleased with the Optical Center service! I ordered new frames and lenses on May 6th and was told it takes 7-10 days to come in. It's been 12 days and I called on the 11th day and had to leave a message on the their voice mail box for a call back. No one ever called be back, so I called back again the next day and apparently there's no one to monitor the phone lines because every single time you call you have to leave a message for someone to contact you back. Someone FINALLY contacts me back after I left a very annoyed message for a return call back. The representative explained to me that the frames I'd ordered "didn't pass inspection" (whatever that means) and had to be sent back and hopefully they get it back by no later than Friday which will be 16 business days. I then asked the representative why no one ever called me to explain to me this issue? She explained that they are using a new vendor that apparently doesn't do call backs..I'm like WTH?! Moving forward I will not order frames and lenses from their Optical Center; I will go elsewhere. read more

I had an appointment scheduled, called to cancel it so I could go somewhere else that was more convenient, but was told Berkeley pulled my insurance benefits so now I am not eligible until 2017. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY from Berkeley Eye Center. I chose this particular location as they were the closest Ophthalmologist to our area in our vision network. We called and set up the initial appointment, filled out the online paperwork as requested, and asked if there were any other fees associated with our visit, other than our co-pay. We were told that everything was included with the co-pay, except for the contact lenses depending upon the prescription. We specifically asked if they needed our current prescription on the current lenses and were told no. When it came time for the actual appointment, we had more paperwork to fill out, which is understandable as my wife is a first time (and last time) patient. Amongst all of the forms is a fee schedule for contact lens fitting, starting at $150 and moving north of $200! So much for everything being covered by the co-pay, which really irks me since we specifically asked about all of the fees over the phone. We were taken back to the exam room and my wife's vision was checked by the tech. She got her dialed in as best she could before her eyes were dilated. Of course she asked if we had brought in her previous prescription, to which we replied no as we were told it was not necessary (big mistake - don't take their word on anything). When it comes time to see the actual eye doctor for all of 5 minutes, she at least checked the prescription which seemed to be OK, but if course with dilated eyes its hard to tell. My wife tried out the trial pair of lenses for three weeks (as the eye doctor was on vacation at the two week mark, and they said one week was not enough time to adjust to the new lenses). Unfortunately, the axis was off on one eye and the other eye was completely blurry, so my wife had been suffering from headaches for over two weeks. Three week check-up: We go back in, taking the old lens boxes along with the old prescription. They checked it and sure enough their new numbers were off. When the doctor tried keying in the info into the computer, the tech helped her and there seemed to be some confusion as to where the old numbers went and where the new numbers went. I would like to rule out a clerical error at this point, but maybe it's just plain incompetence. The doctor changes the axis a bit on one eye and increases the power on the other by .25 power. I specifically ask if it's ok to go back to the old prescription to use as a baseline and see how that feels (as it is all about patient comfort), she agrees we could do that if need be. When we go to the other room to get another set of trial lenses, we are told they do NOT stock lenses in .25 power increments -I immediately ask for one higher, up to .50 power. They say that is over-prescribing and the doctor would need to OK that, but she's already left for the day. It was 10:25 AM and we had seen the doctor less than 5 minutes earlier. They did NOT offer to try to call the doctor on her cell phone or send her an email. We take the next trial pair of lenses and go home. By now we're at three weeks and bad vision with no care for the patient's well being. Last visit, we picked up the new trial lens (for the .25 power) and asked to see the doctor - she's on vacation for a month! Now we have to see another doctor after another week of wearing the alleged correct trial lenses. I'd like to see them try to hold us to the 45 day rule for the fitting fee, as their incompetence has led to delay after delay. They ultimately do not care about the health or well being of the patient. I would give zero stars! read more

My husband went here for a routine eye exam and contact lens. Even with his insurance he ended up paying almost triple what he was supposed to pay. Since he doesn't know much about insurance, he paid for the services even though he thought it was rather expensive. Later when I saw his bill, they added on a lot of other services just to inflate his bill, such as 3 contact lens fitting fee, lab fee, etc. I called my insurance company to dispute this as well as the Berkeley office. We had gone to another eye doctor farther away and we never paid the other fees. My husband even had to go back there several times because his lens were not fitting well. In all, the experience was bad, they over charge you intentionally to make a higher profit, they are dishonest and take advantage of their customers. I am in the medical field myself and feel that this company is a bad company. We ended up going elsewhere to different PRIVATE PRACTICE eye doctor and got so much better service without all the added fees. There is a reason why chain type of eye companies over-inflate their prices and offer sub-standard service. It's all about money and profit. I will definitely not recommend this company or any of their affiliates. read more

I had LASIK done here in 2007 and another touch up shortly after that due to my vision being so poor. I was offered the Hero Plan(firefighters, teachers, police officers) and that was a substantial savings. I am grateful they offered that. The LASIK procedure was a bit nerve wracking itself but the care that I received from this facility was wonderful. Dr. Garrett and Dr. Doe(who did the procedure) are both great. I always tell people that LASIK was the best investment I've ever made. Waking up in the morning and being able to see is amazing. read more

I have been coming to Berkeley Eye Center for the past few years. I get my annual eye check done here and also purchase my prescription eyewear from the store here. I feel comfortable going to this friendly location. I wear eyeglasses for my shortsightedness and so the perfect pair of frames is what I desire. I get the best help from Yvonne Duran ( Optician) to pick the frame that suits me the best and within my budget. She is very capable, experienced and very helpful. I recently had LASIK done on both of my eyes and I am thrilled! I still can't believe that I don't have to take out my contacts before bed each night AND I can wake up in the morning and SEE right away. No more fumbling around for my glasses! I took my 9year old to get his eyes checked and he was super nervous, after we checked in we went to see Yvonne to help him look for glasses, should he need them, since they were going to have dilate his eyes, she made sure he chose what he liked instead of pressuring him to getting the most expensive ones, like most other places, then we got called to the back and the rest of the staff was wonderful making sure he was comfortable and making us feel so welcomed, then walked in Dr Jorge Garrett, which is also mine and my husbands eye Dr and as always he was great he made my son feel important, I noticed that he always gives his patients his time , not just a in and out,thank you, bye and to find great service now days like that is almost impossible, these people at Berkley Eye in Katy from the front office staff to the Dr's they are great. read more

Just had LASIK performed at Berkeley Eye Center Katy. As a natural born skeptic, I was expecting typical "getem in, getem out" service for the consultation/eye exam. Let me put the visit experience in order: 1. Met with the consultant-AWESOME, no rush, very knowledgeable and made me very comfortable and answered questions from both the wife and me 2. Met with the eye exam doctor (Dr. Garrett)-friendly, GREAT demeanor and spent as much time explaining the different options/procedure implications/risks and my evaluation as I wanted; did not feel rushed-quite the opposite-felt very "at home" 3. LASIK performed by Dr. Erin Doe-met before the surgery and had more discussions on expectations/risks. Made me very comfortable during the procedure 4. Assitants/staff during LASIK-GREAT. Never felt like just a patient but more like a valued person (that is pretty rare in most service industries today) 5. Post surgery visit was again informative and not rushed 6. 3 day visit-the office staff knew me by name as I walked through the door. That impressed me tremendously (this was only my 4th visit to the office, EVER!) I only have one complaint and it is not for Berkeley...I am upset that it took me so long to switch from the "other big eye center" in Katy. Wife, daughter and I are Berkeley customers now. Based on my experiences, the wife is also going to have LASIK performed at Berkeley in a couple of months. Thanks and kudos to the entire Berkeley staff. read more

Let me first start off saying that I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Garrett and his staff, very friendly front office as well his assistant for preliminary exam was very thorough,courteous and very informative. Dr. Garrett's exam was exactly what I expected from his office he is very personable and friendly and thorough,The downside was the price of their frames and lenses they simply were out of my price range for their large selection I couldn't find anything less than $135 even though my insurance was covering a certain amount I feel like they should have an option for every budget. I highly recommend Berkeley Eye Center. I see Dr. Doe as my ophthalmologist. He is very knowledgeable, professional, conservative, kind, and personable. I have also seen two optometrists. Both were terrific. The nursing staff and front office all treated me with utmost respect and care. I was a patient and not a number to them. I did not have to wait an extreme amount of time at my appointments. They even allowed me to have my yearly prescription required exam at the same time as a follow-up appointment for an eye infection so that I would not have to make a third trip. My husband and I both got our Lasik surgery here at Berkeley Eye Center. First of all, it was easy to schedule an appointment. The staff worked hard to accommodate your schedule. I was able to have the consultation, pre-op exam, and surgery all happen in two weeks time frame. The same thing happened for my husband. Our surgeries went well and the result are awesome. Like many of the other posts regarding Berkeley Eye Center, I have to agree that the experience was fabulous. The pre-op and post-op appointments were easy to schedule and didn't take long at all. The entire staff does try hard to keep you comfortable and provide as much detailed information as you could want. I've researched Lasik for years so I had all the information I felt I needed, but my wife had other questions which were always answered without the need to check with someone else, which is refreshing in itself. Throughout the process I was able to meet several of the doctors, each willing to provide as much information as I wanted and all had a very very good bedside manner. The billing and payment system were very clean, no unexpected pricing or hidden costs. They are very forthcoming with everything. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend that anyone determined to have Lasik performed, get it done here. I had checked out some other local centers during my years of research and the quality of care and attention to detail is just not there. If the lowest price is what you are seeking and nothing else matters, bad idea, then this may not be the place for you. I was fortunate to have a discounted rate based on a visiting doctor, so I received the best of both worlds. Cheap out on clothes or food or even your vehicle, just don't take the chance on something as valuable as your eyesight. read more

I would like to share my recent LASIK experience at Berkeley Eye Center in Katy. Dr. Erin Doe fixed my 13 years of bad vision this Friday.I underwent the Intralase lasik surgery with conventional lasik - right eye & wavefront guided lasik - left eye.The entire procedure took less than 10 mins and I didn't feel any discomfort at all.The doctors and staff were excellent. I would like to thank all of you for your care and professionalism. Dr. Doe took time out of his busy schedule to explain me in detail the reason different procedures were recommended for each eye. To say that I am pleased with the outcome of my surgery would be an understatement. It's an awesome experience to NOT wear glasses and have better vision than I had wearing them! Recovery has been miraculous. Although it's been just 3 days, I'm noticing things I never really saw in detail before, and I'm blown away by my new surroundings! Very friendly staff. Nice facility. My only complaint is that I specifically made an appointment to get new glasses. Although I do wear contacts, I still have several months worth and a valid prescription. When I called to make the appointment, I explained this and they said that was fine. When the nurse called me back, I also explained it to her to make sure and she also said no problem. We went through the entire exam process then I was taken to the glasses area and handed over to another person who would help me select glasses and check out. She started talking about seeing if my contact prescription was ready and I explained to her the same thing, that I did not want the contact fitting exam and that I explained it before. But nothing was done. I had to pay an extra $60 that I was not prepared for to cover the contact exam fee. Other than that, I had a good experience and will be back. read more
