This is a review from an appointment months ago. I have had glasses for 35 years and contacts for 25. This was arguably the worst experience I've had trying to communicate with a doctor and facility. Do not go here unless you have a lot of free time to argue and have multiple appointments to make sure they listen to you. In retrospect, there are a few places things fell apart. 1) The appointment. I realized later the doctor never asked me for my old prescription. He also did an exam and then lectured me about how I'm going to need glasses for astigmatism and seemed to be amused and joking about me getting old. When I pick up my prescription for glasses and contacts they are way off. It took me a week or so to realize (because I generally trust my doctors) but after dizzy spells I realized he had prescribed me a significant jump over my existing prescription which has not only stayed the same for two decades, I had worked with my last eye doctor to lower my prescription bc of headaches due to being on screens for the whole day. I came back in for another exam and he didn't apologize or say anything other than to change my prescription after he verified he was way off the first time. Not that I asked for compensation but nothing was offered. 2) The ordering/ front desk. Nice people but they are wholly disconnected from their customers. After my lens prescription was corrected I asked multiple times to ensure the glasses were changed too. I was assured by the woman up front as well as the guy who makes the lenses that they would be. When I came back again (we are now on our third visit) they were not only wrong, they used the wrong type of lens. The tech could not explain why he did that but just took them back and said he'd fix them. I reminded him again at that time to make sure the prescription was updated bc they were wrong. Fourth visit. Guess what? Lenses are correct but prescription is wrong again. Yet again no explanation and no apologies let alone any sort of offer to compensate or rectify for my time. Just another "well come back again" 3) Related, my parents had a similar experience. The condescending doctor didn't listen to my mother and gave her glasses that made her dizzy. She doesn't speak up as much as I do so she just kept them and didn't use them until she got them corrected elsewhere. I have no words for the level of terrible experience I had here. I simply do not have time in my day for this level of incompetence. After that last appointment I just didn't bother. I have a pair of $400 glasses I can't wear sitting in my drawer and I'm glad we are finally on a new year so I can find a competent eye doctor. read more

This place has been hit or miss for us. Scheduled my whole family here. First two times, the regular doctors were there, great personal experiences for my kids and my husband. I paid over 1100 for my son's glasses & contacts. His new glasses and contacts were fine. His second pair were not presentable. They were his before and lenses were replaced with new RX--the nose pads were still green--should have replaced and it had loose screws. Took them back and they took care of it. I went for my appointment and the woman from the front was nice enough. Took me to the room to wait for doctor. 20 minutes go by and I am still waiting. I hear then see the doctor carrying on and laughing with the patient next door to me. I wait another 10 minutes in my room. Then walked out to see if maybe they forgot I was there. The girl that helped me earlier said the doctor would be in shortly. The lady doctor was chilling on the chair next to her --I guess taking a break. She never acknowledged me. Just kind of half spun her chair away. I mean why schedule me then? I would understand if I was a walk in maybe. I felt disrespected. I need a place that is more consistent. My time is valuable also. read more

Dr Brett Donaldson was a pleasure to deal with, which is why I'm incfreasing my rating to 2 stars. Unfortunately, the experience out front was not as pleasant. Prices are significantly above average for all possible frames/lens options. For example, $95 for standard reflective lens is around double what insurance will cover which is unacceptable in my opinion. Plus, the up-sell experienced was much too aggressive for my taste. I mentioned a few adders offered are significantly higher than other providers and suggested that they possibly match what insurance covers and you would have thought I flung a horrible insult. We might return to update prescriptions in the future, but will definitely be ordering glasses elsewhere. read more

Dr Ryann Donaldson is a top notch optometrist who is very experienced, knowledgeable and personable. I had an eye emergency and they fit me in the same day. Dr. Donaldson was able to make the proper diagnosis and treatment with their state of the art equipment and he was very thorough and knowledgeable. The office is beautiful, clean and offers a wide selection of nice frames and sunglasses. The staff was very friendly and helpful in guiding me to find the right pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for me which I love! read more

Used to be a decent place. Ordered glasses and never called me when they came in. When I called they said yep been here waiting for you. They ordered wrong glasses so I asked them To correct. Never called. So I called and said oh so sorry you never responded to us so we sent back. I asked to fix and said oh yeah we'll call you back. Never called back. So I call and ask for help front desk lady says manager will call before lunch. That was 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately they are incompetent and have gone elsewhere and won't be back. read more

I was at work and needed to see an optometrist immediately. I went through a list of providers through my insurance company and just started from the top and work my way down until I found someone who could see me that day. Everyplace that I called was either booked or not open yet for business. I came across Grand Vision, made the call and got an appointment. The most convenient thing about this business is that I was able to download the patient form on online from the website and have it filled out instead of having to go in early just to fill out paperwork. The drive was a little far for me, but considering the circumstances and the outstanding service I received, I didn't mind one bit. Norma got me all set up and checked in and I saw Dr. Ryan Donaldson. He was such a nice guy! We shot the breeze and he made me feel very comfortable with his practice and his knowledge. Andrea showed me around and we looked at different types of frames together and she gave me her honest opinion of what looked good on me and asked all the right questions in terms of comfort and lifestyle. She even took the time to go over all of the information with me about my co-pay, lab fees and the cost of frames and lenses as well as my contacts. The location of the business is a little far from me but again, it's well worth the drive and I will definitely see Dr. Donaldson and the rest of the staff again for all of my eyecare needs from now on. read more

I've been wearing contacts for 16 years, which has led me to meet plenty of eye doctors and have plenty of eye exams. Never have I had such an efficient and quick exam. Dr. Brett was charismatic, polite and most importantly, smart! Usually, I would have to get my prescription adjusted after the trial of contacts but not this time! Dr Ryan and Dr Becker are one of the best optometrist I have seen in the last 5 years. Very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. Also Adriana who took care of me and my daughter was very knowledgeable and help find us the right frame and contact lenses. BUT the front staff are not welcoming at all and very very unprofessional. Me and my daughter came to pick up her prescription glasses. The frame had SCRATCHES on one side. They told me it's just the roughness. It was my daughters birthday gift for the next day and she felt so bad and crying on her way home. Also the case given did not fit her glasses. read more

I had a vision Rx and went to Grand Vision to order glasses. I needed to get the new glasses soon and was told "5-7 business days, maybe sooner". After 2 weeks, I called to inquire about the status and was told they would check with the lab and call back...no call back. 3 days later I called again and was told they would check with the lab and get back...I told the lady that I was told that last week! Of course, no call back. Called again and asked for a manager who said he'd check and get back. 3 more days passed and I did get a call back to say they would be in within 2-3 days. Ultimately got the glasses 3 1/2 weeks after ordering. When I picked them up, no apology, no nothing other than an optometrist with an attitude. Took my glasses and left. Many glass wearing people in our family but none will be back to Grand Vision in Katy! read more

I have been coming here for a few years for my frames and lenses. Katy is a pretty boring town and Grand Vision South is finally getting some colorful frames in to choose from. The staff is knowledgeable and works with the customer to find the best solution to their needs. The Drs are very nice and polite but the rest of the staff are rude and unprofessional. They are pushy. Give you wrong information. One time they sent the wrong prescription to the laboratory and I had to have my glasses remade because I couldn't see ANYTHING. Not only that but I had to wait a month and a half for my glasses to come in the first time and again for the second time. They charge outrageous amounts and whenever faced with their mistakes they blame everyone else rather than assuming responsibility. I have given this place many chances over the years but I recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

I CAN SEE!!!! I moved from Sugar Land to Fulshear and needed a new eye doctor. I have multiple eye conditions and have never been able to get near perfect vision with my glasses. Well . . . all that has changed! Dr. Donaldson, Brittany Donaldson and the entire staff dedicated their time, patience and knowledge to give me perfect vision with my new silhouette eye glasses. I can say that I probably was one of their most difficult clients but being a nurse, my vision is extremely important. They went so far as to stay, on a Friday night, until way after the office closed to get the eyeglass prescription right. What I want from any doctor is to be seen at my appointment time or as soon as I finish the necessary paperwork to be seen. I typically do not write reviews, good or bad; but my experience at Grand Vision compelled me to write. In a word: Awful. The eye exam was fine. They did not have trials in my prescription. Also fine. What wasn't fine was the 6-7 trips I had to make to the office (and once to their other location) to pick up the trials (which were incorrect at the other location). When I finally went to pick up my correct trials, I came to find they were at the other office (NOT the office I went for my eye exam). The miscommunication between the 2 offices is phenomenal. In the end, I used my one "free" yearly eye exam under my insurance, paid $500 up front while we went round and a round with my trials, and since I chose to not "okay" my trials (which were never right), I will now pay out of pocket to go back to my old eye doctor to start the process again. I suspect this happens a lot as they had absolutely no patience or empathy. I have learned my lesson. I originally left them for similar reasons. Shame on me for going back. read more

If you're ok with waiting an hour before you see a doctor and being robbed, then this place is fantastic. Arrived on time, waited forty minutes for a nurse, another twenty for a doctor and then was billed $415. What the ****? Around $300 was charged to insurance and I had to pay $109 out of pocket. Not to mention they dilated my eyes, sent me home, then called me back because they had forgotten to do all of the tests while my eyes were dilated, so I had to drive back. They didn't give me my prescription or any trial lenses because they didn't have any, so I have to go back for those. Worst experience. DO NOT GO HERE. just go the Walmart optometrist. At least there you won't have to take 3 hours out of your day and you'll get your prescription and trial lenses on the spot. I was taken advantage of by these people because I'm young, but now that I know better I can say I will never be back at this place once they hand me my prescription. read more

Out of many eye places now in Katy, we really enjoy going to this place. They are all very courteous, attentive, and offer very good services. Dr Brett Donaldson is a great doctor, and takes his time to explain the technology behind the machines they use (since I didn't know what they do), and we never felt rushed. This clinic is close to where I live so I go there and check it out. I did some online research about them before I went. The staff were friendly. Doctor explained the condition clearly. They could do thorough eye examine for me during my trip. But I only took the basic one. If you feel you need thorough examine other than just getting prescription for eyeglasses, they can do it. Joel is very helpful in explaining the lenses selection and insurance coverage (I used my own frame). Overall I think this is a good place to go. Our 25yr old daughter was born with congenital cataracts and has been seeing high profile opthamologists in Houston since birth. She has always had poor vision and is not a candidate for surgery. Year after year, her vision has worsened yet, not one of these extraordinary surgeons have been able to help her. We live in Katy, and after sharing our story with Dr Brett Donaldson of Grand Vision a couple of years ago. He never forgot about our daughter. Through networking with colleagues, and attending meetings all over the country, he searched for a way to help our daughter improve her vision and others like her that had congenital cataracts. A few weeks ago, and after a thorough eye examination, he fit her with the perfect eyeglasses that has her seeing perfectly despite her cataracts that have robbed her of a healthy vision all these years. The eyeglasses Dr Donaldson carefully especially created for her have a special rose tint on the lense that has allowed her to see the world so clearly! He even fitted her with sunglasses that have decreased the sun's glare that dangerously blinds her during the day, as well as the glare from car lights at night. Dr Donaldson is amazing and our family is extremely grateful for his extraordinary medical abilities, resourcefulness, and persistence in finding a solution that has opened a whole new world for our daughter.
