Going to Bep Eatery is the best decision I made this week. I can only speak for the pho since that's the only thing I've ever gotten but it was delicious. Having eaten pho for 29 years, this place is pretty delicious even compared to some restaurants. It's like Chipotle for Vietnamese food where you pick your base, protein, and fixings. The pho was really fresh and tasted decently authentic. The restaurant itself was surprisingly really clean and organized. I did go when they first opened so there wasn't a line yet but I do hear that it does go by fast when they do have one. MUST TRY! read more

Really wanted to like what I got as I work downtown and Bep Eatery is only a 5 minute walk away which is super convenient when I don't bring my own lunch or am tired of the options in my building. I love vermicelli salads and usually order them with pork at most Vietnamese places I go but holy crap was that pork covered in black pepper. It was like it was rolled in a bucket of pepper before being cooked and it completely overpowered the flavors of everything else. I checked the menu to see if it was my oversight and maybe they had mentioned pepper in the description of the pork but they did not. I recommend they do. I can still taste it and it's been 15 minutes. I will say though that the noodles are cooked well and the veggies all seem really fresh. I do want to give their other options a shot so we'll see how those are in the future. read more

Darn was hoping bep would live up to its hype but I didn't enjoy the pho here much. Maybe pho isn't meant to be an express thang. Though the flavor of the broth was good the temperature of it was only 'warm' and I know a good pho broth should be piping hot so it can cook the raw steak slices placed in the pho, not to mention my noodles were way undercooked too... so I left with an upset stomach afterwards wahhhh that's alright, though the food was mediocre the service was quick and friendly, so maybe on a cold rainy day when I have an immense craving for pho I'll have no choice but to go to bep for lunch. ***extra star for the owner reaching out, which is always a great gesture in my book :) read more

Review is based solely on the pho. Got the beef. Broth and beef were quite nice/good, but as some mentioned, the broth was not piping hot as I am use to and was just warm. Another issue for me was the undercooked pho. I brought it back to my office to microwave and honestly it tasted 3x better when I did that. Piping hot broth and cooked noodles, at least. I hoped there would be more options than just beef or chicken like maybe meatballs or tripe and what not or combos. But I think they can get away with the basic concept/price bc they're in the skyway, downtown mpls, and it's supposed to be "fast food"-like, and a good number of their clients prolly don't eat tripe or suspicious meatballs, so I guess lol. For those that have been raving about the place.. I was expecting something more, but what to expect from skyway chipotle style pho? Hm. I will only come back if I am desperate for pho since it's the only walkable location close by, and I would just resort to microwaving it bc it does taste good/better when I do that as I don't absolutely hate it. How I rate pho: 5 stars if it reminds me of mama's cookin'/home, 4 if exceptional, 3 if its decent, 2 its ok/bearable but could improve. 1, do you even know what pho is? Upon arrival there was a short line that went by surprisingly quickly. I had the chicken breast Pho for lunch, it was very flavorful and it was a generous portion. It was the right amount of spicy and their chicken broth was delicious. I will definitely return. However, given that they use cardboard bowls I felt like the soup got cold too quickly. I wish they had non-cardboard bowls for people who were eating at the restaurant (it would also be less waste)! On the other hand, it is a great place to get Pho on the go. My favorite bahn mi place closed in Minneapolis (Bun Mi), so I was on the hunt to find bahn mi just as good. Bep is really good, but I found it to be a bit soggy because they drench it in sauce. This is seriously my favorite place to get pho EVER! The most cutest and yummiest place! Wish I could give it a million stars! It kind-of reminds me of a chipotle style place. You get to choose what to put in your pho. I've never tried anything else because I'm a bit of a wimp and don't like trying anything new but I've heard a lot of great things about everything. My friend got beef one time and it was undercooked so that's the only problem I've ever had with this place! I've heard a lot of good things about this place and of course it peaked my curiosity. I finally got to come try it and what I determined is that it is the Chipotle of Vietnamese food. This must be how people who know authentic Mexican food feel about Chipotle, I understand now. Located just off the Nicollet Green Line stop and accessible through the Minneapolis Downtown Skyways, the restaurant was a petit space with about 10 small tables. They have good packaging though that taking things to-go is very neat, tidy and convenient. I thought the food was decent but nothing spectacular. There are two main entree options, pho or vermicelli bowl. I got the pho that day since I was craving pho. The broth was good and flavorful, and they put the raw meat at the bottom so that the broth will cook it so the meat was soft and tender. The noodles and veggies were in a separate container with hoison sauce and sriracha sprinkled over the top. So when I ate it, I poured my broth onto the noodles and mixed everything together. It was visually pleasing, probably more so than taste. My noodles were a bit undercooked and I would prefer to decide how much hoison and sriracha I want in my soup. My friends all got the vermicelli bowl. There were lots of choices of protein (chicken, pork, beef, tofu, etc), fresh ingredients (basil, jalepeno, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, pineapple, etc), and lastly which of three sauces (peanut sauce, fish sauce or a red one I am not sure what that one was) you wanted on top. It was a lot of food for $8 an entree, so I thought it was reasonably priced for a lunch. Overall, this is a healthy and fast option for lunch if you work in downtown and easily accessible on metro transit. I can see why a lot of people really liked it, but given this is my native food, it was not super authentic. This place has good food but with a few flaws. First the location is not convenient unless you work in the area. You have to know where to go because you don't see it casually walking around. Secondly, as a vegetarian I was disappointed not to have a veggie pho option. At least that's what they told me. I was looking forward to a brothy bowl of noodles but ended up with some sort of spring roll which was good but just not the pho I was hoping for. Third flaw is the fact this is a teeny tiny place. Line wraps around outside if you go at lunch and seating can be a challenge. On the plus, its remarkably quick to get through the line. You just might have to eat on your lap somewhere though. Pick your eat, pick your meat, sauce it and fill it. Great staff as well. Only downside is there isn't a lot of seating so you have to go early or plan on to go. Overall, I'm a fan of Bep. When it opened, I would consistently go here for lunch. But I found out the restaurant has some consistency problems when it comes to quality. It isn't 100% authentic Vietnamese food but then again it doesn't have to be. As someone that eats Vietnamese several times a week it's pretty solid. The best way to describe it is comparing it to a Chipotle. Is Chipotle the same as a Mexican sit down restaurant? No, but they're still both tasty. Fast, fresh, and a good variety of sauces are a plus. My grilled pork was cubed which is something I've never experienced. But instead of a soft thin lemongrass flavored pork chop like other Vietnamese restaurants, it was more of a roast consistency. And by roast, I mean the kind your dad used to cook when you were young making you swear you'd never eat it again. The flavor was still good, and letting me pic my vegetables was awesome. The prices were right inline with other restaurants for pho and vermicelli salad, but horrible for spring rolls and banh mi. Seriously, the top five best banh mi's you can find in the state still don't crack $4.00. Let alone Bep's $7.95. Maybe it'd be ok if they were bigger, but they're not. Regardless, Bep Eatery makes a solid lunch that will subdue those Vietnamese cravings. And alone in the skyway system they shall remain supreme. Was recently craving some pho and stumbled upon Bep Eatery. I was hoping for something more authentic and sit down, but Bep Eatery was a great find. They are a simple fast casual Vietnamese restaurant. Its great for people who are in a hurry and need to grab some food to-go. Also, I think its a good stepping stone for people who want to try Vietnamese cuisine (Vermicelli, Spring Rolls, Banh Mi, and Pho). The staff is very friendly and its nice to be able to see everything that goes into dish. Its an interesting concept and I wish the owners the best of luck in their quest to open more! P.S. Please don't take it the wrong way when I said I was hoping for something more authentic. Finally a pho restaurant in downtown Minneapolis! I was skeptical strictly based on the location (in the skyway for a Vietnamese place) but I was pleasantly surprised. Staff: Their staff was very polite and enthusiastic about their business. They informed me about their rewards program and you can tell that they have fun working there. Design: Very small space with maybe 5 or 6 chairs. Minimal style with a nice street view from the skyway level. Nothing incredibly special, but then again, the design/decor is not what I'm at a Vietnamese restaurant for. Food: Ah yes, the food! I would say, on a scale of 1 to 5, their pho is a solid 4. This said, I've had pho at nearly every eatery in town with Quang being my all time favorite. Quang gets a 5. The broth at Bep is right on par, you can tast the starseed and it's deliciously salty and robust. They seem to add a bit more beef than a lot of other places but I like that. They even have to go bowls that stay closed pretty well when you are walking in the skyway. Additional disposable "pho shovel" or as some people call it, spoons. Overall: The place is well put together and is well designed to be a downtown Vietnamese eatery. I'll definitely be back to try some other items. But wait, it gets better. They have a rewards program. I know, right? For every 6 bowls of pho you get, you get the 7'th free. At the price of around $8 for a bowl of soup, it's a pretty good deal. So, I decided to visit Bep on my break at work recently. Working in Downtown Minneapolis has it's perks. Sometimes. Taking a break at 12:30pm when every line is an hour long is NOT one of them. I'm not ungrateful however, because it led me to Bep Eatery. Vegan options here. Let me get that out right away. My Fiance had a Bahn Mi with tofu. Perfectly Vegan, and perfectly delicious! I had not not yet began my conquest of a full month being Vegan at this point, so I overindulged a bit. I got a rice noodle dish with steak, bean sprouts, and a carrot salad they prepared, along with a wine soy sauce of sorts, and also 3 spring rolls of chicken, pork, and steak. SO GOOD!!! Absolutely delicious! The seasoning on the meat was just perfection, if not a little dry. I'll have to give it a try when it's a little more fresh, which I'm sure I'll have my share of chances because I'll be there pretty often. The noodles were prepared great and I really can't say enough about that carrot salad. All in all, this is a GREAT place for a quick lunch, and they have $2 spring rolls after 2pm!!! Do not plan on eating in as the restaurant can seat maybe 10 people with a very long line out the door. Don't let the line intimidate you as it goes fast. After spending many years in San Francisco, when I returned to Minneapolis t was disappointed that I couldn't find a Vietnamese restaurant in the never ending food court of the skyway system. Bep Eatery has filled this missing need. Now it's no Quang, but it's a great choice for a healthy, tasty, and priced right lunch. I've had the vermicelli salad with chicken several times. With all the new designer salad places that have sprung up recently, Bep offers a nice healthy alternative. Seating is limited and the line can sometimes be long during the lunch hour (like most good skyway lunch spots). read more

It was a little hard to find because it's inside a corporate building, but when I finally found it (I came during lunch hour) this place was PACKED! I'm talking, line wrapped around the corner packed! Wish I had come during a later hour because I felt rushed to make a decision. Got the sliced steak pho with all the toppings and an order of the pork and shrimp spring rolls. The Pho: Usually, if I get pho to go the broth is in a secure container, while the other ingredients are in a separate container for you to add when you're ready to eat. In this case, the broth and all ingredients were packed into one bowl container with two not so secure plastic lids. The bowl was placed into a brown paper bag, and started leaking heavily through the bottom of the brown paper bag as I was leaving. I didn't know what to do! I turned back to the restaurant to see if there was anything they could do for me (new container, anything!). When I walked back in there was luckily an empty table with my name on it. Woohoo! I got to sit down and enjoy the pho I had been waiting for all morning. The pho was delicious, light, and fresh tasting. Spring rolls: The spring rolls were wrapped very loosely and fell apart after my first bite. It was really hard to eat them without getting messy. After my third bite I gave up trying to hold it together and finished my first roll off with a fork. The shrimp were whole and pork inside was seasoned wonderfully. Pho has been notably lacking in the downtown skyway scene so I was stoked to discover this place. Ordering pho assembly line style was a a bit worrisome but it turns out it just made it easier to transport and quicker to get to the eating! Went for the steak pho with all the standards (basil, bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeños, onions.) I had to stop the dude at the counter from squirting sriracha and hoisin direct into the bowl, keep it on the side! don't ruin that broth bro! The beef broth turned out to be super tasty, lighter in color, less salty and more gingery than I'm used too. Price and portions were reasonable, especially given the area. The rare-steak was very good but I little disappointed/surprised they didn't have any of the other pho standards ( where's brisket, tripe, and most-importantly tendon!?!) Overall a good fresh tasting bowl of pho for a reasonable price in an area in desperate need of such a thing. I will defiantly be going back! read more

This place is a real find! The concept is simple: fast casual (think Chipotle) for Vietnamese street food. The ordering process is just as simple: pick your "eat" (options are spring rolls, vermicelli noodle salad, banh mi sandwich, or pho soup), pick your meat (steak, chicken, or pork), add fillings (such as bean sprouts, cilantro, fresh jalapeno slices, etc.), add a sauce. Service is friendly, fast, and helpful. I have watched people completely unfamiliar with Vietnamese food easily walked through the ordering process. So don't let lack of familiarity hold you back! The pho (my favorite) is phenomenal! It's all about the broth. I was worried it might be some kind of weak fast-food substitute for the real thing. Not at all! There is a huge bubbling vat of the stuff in the back of the line with all the depth of flavor I had hoped for. Being a skyway eatery, service is optimized for lunch takeaway. There are a few tables in the place, but they fill up fast. In its 3rd week of operation, word is getting around so the line can be long during peak lunch rush. However it moves quickly and the food is worth the wait. Bep is already one of my very top lunch picks in the skyway. I'm not impressed by their pho. The broth was lukewarm and lacked flavor, the noodles weren't firm enough and were much less than what I'm used to. I'm surprised to see many people praising their broth. Maybe it's because I was there a little after the peak lunch time (around 12:45). The chicken they had was really nice though. It was grilled and had a distinct taste. Their vermicelli bowls look better so I may try that next time. The pursuit of a good pho place in downtown continues... One more thing to add. Got the pho for my first trip here and it was definitely the best downtown Minneapolis pho I've had. (I don't count Lotus or anything on eat street as downtown). The soup was pretty good although nothing compared to the more authentic Vietnamese places outside downtown. The price was reasonable. I could get the fixings to top off my soup. I was a little disappointed by the speed it took to prep a bowl of pho but overall it didn't take that long. I've had dreams of opening a quick Vietnamese place, and in those dreams, my bowls of pho were coming off the line about twice as fast as BEP. It took probably 3-5 mins... Last negative was the carrying container it came in. For whatever reason, some broth got into the rim of the top and then it would drip out periodically as I walked back to work. 4 stars because I'll probably end up coming here at least once a week! read more

This review isn't about the food, it's about the amount of waste that this place generates. All of the dishes here are served in plastic, on plastic, with plastic. I ordered the vermicelli bowl, and it came in a disposable (compostable maybe?) bowl with a plastic lid, even though I was eating it there. And I ordered a coffee, and it came in a plastic cup with a plastic straw. They didn't have any reusable cutlery either. When I was done with my meal, I asked if they had compost or recycling. They don't. The trashcans here were overflowing with recyclable items and it broke my heart that this place creates so much waste when Minneapolis has an organics and recycling program. I took everything home to recycle but I couldn't help but think this place could do so much better. read more

I was so glad a Vietnamese street food concept opened a few years ago in DT and now a 2nd location opened up...amazing!! Bep's pho is very flavorful, especially on cold winter days or when I simply want pho during lunch. Also the springrolls and vermicelli bowls fresh as ever and the bao buns are amazing (so glad they added it to their menu - 2nd location)!! I've been waiting for this place to open for over a month and it was definitely worth wait! I've been waiting for place to sell banh mi and pho nearby my work. This place not only makes banh mi, it makes the most AMAZING banh mi! With steak, peanut sauce and local made French bread, this banh mi is out of the world. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I haven't tried the pho yet since I mainly eat it for dinner, but I will get around to trying Bep's pho someday. The friends who I have brought enjoyed the pho very much as well as the spring rolls. The ordering setup of Bep is very similar to Chipotle, so if you've been there, you'll feel comfortable ordering for the first time at Bep. The establishment is very clean and friendly, full of smiling faces. I had the pleasure of meeting Mark, one of the owners, an extremely friendly person, who was greeting and thanking everyone for coming in, a characteristic that should be seen in every restaurant owner.
