The servings were decently generous, but I found the broth to be lacking in a little bit of flavor, and I felt like it needed a little bit more salt. Also, while the rice noodles tasted fine, there were hardly any long noodles. Most of them were broken, which doesn't make the eating experience quite as enjoyable. I also wish they had the sauces out instead of keeping them behind the counter so I could customize to my own taste. I asked for a little bit of Sriracha and got quite a bit more than I expected, which made the soup pretty spicy. I do like that they have seating outside the restaurant as well inside the skyway. The service was friendly. It does get very busy around 11:45 to noon so if you can stop a little bit before that if you can to avoid the line! read more

We stopped in for a workday lunch and were surprised to see how busy it was for a midweek lunch rush. It took us about 30 min to get through the line, so we opted to grab and go. Bep offers a few options for a base, several proteins, toppings, and sauces. I went with the vermicelli bowl, chicken (they were out of most other proteins), most of the toppings, and a couple of the dressings. The bowl lasted me two meals and was plentiful for both. I love this concept but it's missing the punch. I'm not sure if we needed salt or spice, but I would've loved a bit more flavor. Was in the mood for Banh Mi and checked their website which listed Banh Mi as an option so walked over there for lunch. Found out after getting there that they don't actually serve Banh Mi anymore so settled for their Pho with grilled chicken. This was a good bowl of pho. All the normal fixings for pho are available and it is a tasty bowl of pho. The grilled chicken was a little different than what I am used to but flavorful. It's a small place but fairly open and well lit. The staff is friendly and the service was good. A decent place if you are in the mood for some pho. read more

I should preface this review by saying that I think Bep deserves 5 stars relative to all of the other lunchtime options in the Skyway in downtown Minneapolis. While there are certainly restaurants elsewhere in the city that would get a better overall review from me, I think that Bep is one of the best, if not the absolute best, places for lunch in the downtown core. Here's why: 1) The pho: there are a surprising number of pho restaurants in Downtown MPLS, but Bep certainly has the best of them all. The beef broth is almost perfect: rich, smooth, and perfectly spiced without being too heavy or too salty. The toppings are also very good: the meat is good quality, the veggies plentiful and fresh, and the portions huge. The temperature is also just right: the broth is kept very hot and added at the absolute last minute, meaning your pho will "cook" the meat and veggies quickly, and still be nice and warm when you eat it. 2) The noodle bowls: slightly smaller than the pho, but still really good. I particularly like the pork with spicy peanut sauce, but there are an endless number of ways to customize your bowl for your taste! 3) The Banh Mi: wonderful bread and great toppings. Takes me back to Laos (I've never been to Vietnam, but the sandwiches in Laos are very similar to Vietnam). The one thing they are missing is the paté. Also, be careful, as the banh mi sauce has dairy in it, so if you can't have milk like me, ask them to sub a different sauce for it. 4) Fast and friendly service: even during the lunch rush, when there's often a line out the door, you can be in and out with your food in about 15 minutes. The one issue here is that it's so popular, there often isn't a place to sit right away if you come between 12:15 and 1pm. However, there is quick turnaround, and seats open up fairly fast. I believe they also have a second location downtown, but I'm not sure where it is. Enjoy! read more

This is their new/2nd location serving the west downtown crowd. Love this closer spot since I no longer have to walk all the way to 5th st (original location) especially during the short lunch hour. Interior - The store is much larger with a more modern layout. Very easy to grab a table/seat unlike the smaller 5th st location. Marble tables for the win! Bep always draws a large crowd so it's no surprise they are quite busy! Menu and ordering process is fairly simple - build your own meal concept. Pho, banh mi, spring rolls, vermicelli bowl all under $7.95! Highly recommend getting the rare steak pho! Portion size and meal size is perfect for a quick lunch fill up. If you're in the mood for spring rolls, Bep is a must! I love the shrimp spring rolls here. They are so fresh and so flavorful! I get my spring rolls with all the toppings except pineapple (I generally don't like to include fruit in savory food) and I always opt for the jalapenos, too, so my rolls have a little kick. In addition to all the toppings, I also get all three sauces. They are too good to choose just one! The peanut chili dressing is a thicker sauce whereas the Vietnamese vinaigrette and citrus soy sauce are both lighter. By getting all the sauces, some bites are sweet, some are tangy, some are smooth and some are spicy--so much variety in one order of spring rolls! They also keep the shrimp whole as opposed to slicing it in half lengthwise which so often happens with spring rolls. The environment is bright and clean. It feels industrial and comfy at the same time. The restaurant is run like a Chipotle, but instead of Mexican food, you choose from spring rolls, pho, bahn mi and vermicelli salad. You select your type of dish, then pick your protein, your toppings and your sauce--completely customizable! It's a skyway restaurant so it gets busy at lunch time with the business crowd. As you can see in one of my pictures, the line was out the door at 11:50am on a Friday. Fortunately, the line moves quickly. Now, for the not as positive part--in the past, I have tried the pho here. As a big fan of pho, I was excited to try it, but it fell far short of expectations. I found the broth to be on the bland side and the meat was overcooked by the time I sat down to eat it. I opted for the rare steak but after a short walk back to my office to enjoy, the steak was not only cooked through, but it was overdone. I didn't even finish eating it. read more

Go inside the La Salle building, up to the second floor by the skyway to find this place. But it's so, so good!!! And the service was WONDERFUL! Great lunch spot with tons of seating. The line was long but I got through it in about 5 minutes. I ordered the pho with chicken (with all of the toppings + hoisin and sriracha sauces). It's ok for skyway Asian. A lot of people from work go here all the time. It's last on my list, as I usually walk a few steps further to hit up Pad Ga Pow. The pho here is ok. The spring rolls here are ok (they fall apart on me each and every time). The noodle bowl is ok. The bao are very good. They're not as good as my friend's, yet they're the best thing I've eaten here. I like the pork. Show up early or late so that you don't have to wait in stupid long lines. I've heard that the spring rolls are only $2 starting at 2:00. Pretty disappointing... the eatery is connected via skyway and I happened to stumble upon it. It has a crazy cool vibe but the food blows. My cousin got the pho and it was super bland. I got a banh mi sandwich with beef and the baguette was hard, meat was again bland and it literally just tasted like carrots and daikon cause... that's really all they stuff it with. Before you throw that stapler on your desk at me...hear me out. Minnesota is home to thousands of Vietnamese-American's - and there are plenty of pho joints around town - so, competition is fierce. Now, I will applaud Bep for bringing more Vietnamese food options to a packed downtown skyway food scene. The space they have is simple, with a modern layout; and the menu is simple. You order as you would at many fast service places (think Chipotle or Naf Naf) - select banh mi, pho or vermicelli bowl ($7.95 each). I ordered the vermicelli bowl, with beef, pickled veggies and fish sauce - after tax, almost $9. When you order the same thing at other establishments, you're options are typically egg roll, pork chop, grilled shrimp, beef balls, etc; not cubed beef that I would see at Chipotle. The flavor profile was close, but not what I typically taste from other places (think Quangs or Trieu Chau). I'll give a hi-five for effort, fast and friendly service and okay option for the downtown lunch crowd - but there is work to be done to make this authentic. read more

I've been wanting to try this place and it was perfect timing when I had an eye appointment just across the skyway from this place. Yay! Vietnamese street food. The space is cool with lots of natural light streaming in through the windows and the guys behind the counter are super nice. The restaurant holds Skyway hours and aren't open late. But the low rating was because, though the food is good. Personally, it just didn't hit the spot for me when I was looking for Vietnamese food. I was searching for more the authentic Vietnamese flavors, but it left me underwhelmed just a bit. I'm not saying their not good, but just not exactly what I was expecting. Also they roll you three pcs as well, which is better than the normal 2pcs/ order. Protein you can choose from includes grilled chicken, grilled pork and I can't remember the third one. Fillings include cilantro, jalapeño, lettuce, carrots, bean sprouts, cucumbers, onions & I may be missing a couple more. Lastly, they have 3 dips you can choose from as well. The staffs were friendly, welcoming and quick; therefore, I had a fast and pleasant experience. However, I feel like the spring rolls were only 'Okay'. Honestly, I just felt like something was missing as it tasted kinda bland & I didn't feel quite satisfied. This is one of my favorite spots to eat downtown. Pre pandemic, I would eat her about one time per week. The cost is pretty average for eating lunch out in downtown Minneapolis. I used to get the Pho with Tofu and chicken based broth. I would be so full, I would get a bit sleepy at my desk. I switched to the salad with the peanut sauce with a "Z" of Hoisen and I'm in heaven. I've been seeing some craveable photos on IG so decided I had to visit. I was greeted with a big smile upon entering. Today I had 3 spring rolls for $7.95. You order just what you want and they roll it right in front of you so I decided to try a variety. I had one with tofu, one with pork and one with beef. They all had noodles, fresh veggies, really green herbs but I nixed the pineapple and jalapeño. Chose the peanut dipping sauce and the soy one. Lots of seating after the main lunch rush. Each roll was tightly wrapped so no falling apart and very dipable (if that's a word). Each bite had some of everything and boy, was it good. I ate the pork and tofu, and felt satisfied. Love the dips, especially the peanut one and I'm not a big peanut fan either, but it tasted great and it clung to the spring roll without getting all over the place so that my next bite didn't necessarily have to be a peanutty one. What a cool new lunch option on LaSalle. I ordered spring rolls, my favorite. They make the rolls to order from scratch! I don't like rice noodles, so I just filled mine with shrimp and vegetables. No problem! No one goes here yet because it's new, so there isn't even a line. The sauces are not overly sweet and complimented my spring rolls.
