Finally got to try out this place for lunch today. Last several times I stopped by the place was full and I knew I was too hungry to wait. We ordered Salmon avocado roll, Spicy tina roll, and Bulgogi Dinner Box. Bulgogi seems to be difficult to get right but my husband and I thought they got it right. Everything tasted delicious! Yesterdays experience was awful. I ordered a dinner box and the salad was gross. It was the last of the salad. Like the hard pieces and the ends were brown. Bento Box Happy Valley Towne Center 2501 W Happy Valley Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85085 Japanese sushi, noodles & rice bowls plus a few Korean dishes offered in an unfussy eatery. - The place was small and not allot of people were there for lunch, Red flag! - Not much decor. Indoor colors were a bit dark. - There was just 1 waitress and she took our order right away (2 People). - We got our drinks within about 2 minutes (Unsweetened Iced Tea with tons of ice). - I ordered a Tuna and a Salmon Sushi roll special for $4.00. The other person ordered a cashew chicken box meal. - With not many people in the place it took 15 minutes to get the cashew chicken. and we waited for the Sushi - I told the other person to start eating without me. We waited another 10 minutes then asked the waitress where the Sushi was. The waitress flat out lied to us and said that everybody was ordering Sushi so the chef was way behind on the orders. I was observing the waitress the whole time and only saw one other order of Sushi. They had forgotten to make my Sushi - I finally got my Sushi after 30 minutes and it was horrible. It was not fresh, there was no flavor, and the seaweed wrapping around it was like a rope. In fact I started to choke on the seaweed trying to swallow it because it was very chewy and would not break apart. It almost seemed like it was frozen and they nuked it to unthaw it. - The other person said that the cashew chicken was also flavorless and bland. - The final insult was the prices they charged. I never in my life have paid $3.50 for approximately 5 oz of Iced tea. They also charged me $10 for the Sushi which was $4 on the Menu. - I tipped 20 percent as I always do and decided that it was not worth raising a fuss about. The best thing to do is not patronized this establishment again and make sure to write a review about it, letting others know that it is not a place that you want to eat at. read more

Decent place to get sushi in the north valley. It seems like food diversity is a little scarce this far north so it's nice to have a place like this. Sushi rolls are fresh and tasty. If you're not feeling like sushi the bulgolgi bowl is great! I like the regular beef more than the spicy pork though. read more

I was more than pleasantly surprised when happening upon BentoBox. It's a small storefront restaurant and the menu could use some more/better descriptions about what comes with what. But with that said, the several sushi dishes I had were wonderful -- fresh, made without a long wait, presented well, and VERY tasty. All in all, it was a very good value. For such a small place in the middle of AZ, I thought that it was some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. A solid three stars. I came here on a whim with my Not Boyfriend (it's complicated, ok?). We got a large Kirin and hot sake for $5 which you can't beat! For food I ordered white tuna, octopus, and salmon nigiri. The salmon and tuna were spot on. The octopus not so much. It came with some kind of seasoning on top that I wasn't a huge fan of, and was so chewy I couldn't get it down. The quail eggs we got were ok- no spice added like some places so we added some Siracha for a flavor boost. I got tempura udon which was delicious and perfect for the freezing (by Arizona standards) weather. Against my better judgement, I ordered some rolls as well. Not that rolls are terrible they're just not as traditional as what I would normally order. The salmon skin roll was ok, again a little too chewy. The Philadelphia Roll was boring and I thought had a bit too much rice for the amount of other ingredients. One standout part of the meal was the service, our server was super sweet and attentive. We didn't realize they closed at 830 but once we saw them putting up chairs we figured it out. Having worked in the service industry I know how closing time can be and they did a great job of not making us feel unwelcome or rushing through the meal. Overall, go for the sake bomb special, stay for the fresh fish. Avoid the rolls. read more

When you order sashimi they bring out a fresh wasabi concoction I've never had before that was outstanding. This place is definitely worth visiting for affordable, quality sushi. read more

I can't give enough stars for this location. Very clean atmosphere and the two men who helped were not only the nicest men we have met in a restaurant, but also provided a very nice conversation while waiting for our food. Everything was clean and wiped down, and even provided hand sanitizer. The food was prepared very nicely. We did take it to go and it smells amazing. I would highly recommend coming to this location. We wore masks, and they ask for customers to wear masks while inside which was so refreshing to see business owners taking steps to keep the community safe. We will definitely be coming back. I've been here three times and so far the food is still so so. Tried the Champon ramen and asked for spicy. It was not spicy at all. The spicy ramen from Asiana market is better. The champon had too much cabbage and bean sprouts which cooled down the broth really fast. Couldn't enjoy the noodles because I got full from eating half the veggies.
