Not anymore! their prices increased dramatically while their baked goods got way smaller in size and doesn't taste the same. I called today to place an order for 15 cupcakes ( I figured I'd try 1 more time being as though this used to be my fav place) well not only was the girl who answered the phone a complete snot but she quoted me 75 dollars for 15 Cupcakes (as per her boss) I said wow your prices went up a, regular cupcake 2x the size of the ones I want are only 3 bucks her response was yea well we increased prices so if you don't want them have a good day in the bitchiest tone! .... Picked up a marble fudge cake for my dad's birthday today - frosting and ganache tasted good and everyone noticed how pretty it was decorated BUT the cake itself was AWFUL! So dry and flavorless it could have been made and sat out for a week. No one even finished their slice, let alone went back for seconds. I had a similar experience the last time I went here but this bakery was so good when I was a kid, I figured I'd give them a second chance. Can't justify a third after this time. read more

Last year I purchased some items from Benkherts hoping to FLOOR some out of town guests. Well, we floored them al right!! Cookies were salty, and other items not up to par. On a whim, we tried again. This place used to be great, has gone steadily down hill over the past few years. The brownies, black and white cookies, and many of the cookies by the lb are worst than the local Shop Rite's bakery, and much more expensive. Their saving grace is cannoli's and napoleons. read more

Been getting my birthday cakes her since I was a little girl and always delicious, but moldy cake is a big NO, NO in my book! Not sure what's gone wrong with this award winning bakery, but beware of the Maple Walnut cake! Whole bottom of the cake had green molded from what I can only guess is too long of a shelf life and when we purchased the cake we were told that it was baked fresh that same day (blatant lie). Upon returning to the store for a refund we were told that only Andy could refund our money and that he wasn't there. Kinda surprised also that the same Maple Walnut cakes from the day before were still in the case. Very rude Staff especially the young girls who work there, Today manager Andy tried to over price my cake and wouldn't even come out to speak to me when I asked to see him. Mind you I have been coming here for years and I always Refer others. I had plenty of cakes made here and I still go back even when they have messed up on several of my custom cakes but I keep returning. But after today I will never give them business again. First time ever that I walked in Benkerts and they really did not want to help me. I asked if they had large fruit covered cheesecake and the woman said they have small ones. I asked if they had a large one and she said just plain cheesecakes in the larger size. I asked if it was possible to add fruit to one. Her response was"If I have to." Then I asked how much it would be and she looked it up and said it would be $49. She had quoted me a price of about $15 for a smaller one and said the large was almost twice as big. I then stated to her that I could get 2 or 3 of the smaller one for less than the large. She said Yes. Would you like to do that. I said no it's my daughters birthday cake I will overpay for the one large one. While the person in charge added blueberries on top. read more

Bought my mother a birthday cake from this bakery and I was so disappointed, it was custom ordered so I thought it would be fresh but it turned out to be stale and the frosting was sour, we had to throw the whole thing out and it was expensive! Called for a refund twice and each time I was told it would be done soon however it still hasn't yet. Definitely wouldn't recommend them, in my opinion they're also quite overpriced. It saddens me to say this but Benkerts Bakery has lost its edge at-least in bread making I ordered their regular Pumpernickel Raisin Bread over a week ago. I noticed the bread had few raisins in it maybe 1 cup and mostly on the crust. My idea of Raisin Bread is raisins in every bite like supermarket. Do they realize Pumpernickel Bread expands being less dense so you need to add more raisins and throughout the bread. I called them and told them about it they offered another bread a week later so I thought maybe they ran out of raisins so I'll give them another try, same results. I hope they read this and improve their name worthiness. Check shelf life of products for freshness as well. read more

I came in 8/2016 and bought a rainbow cookie cake for my daughter's birthday. When we cut and served the cake, it was terribly dry, a first for us from the bakery we have been using for many years! I returned it, and discussed the issue with the owner who was happy to help and give me a credit for my next cake. Today 11/2016 I went in and used part of my refund for my husband's cake, a raspberry/chocolate layer cake. We left the cake out of the fridge for 30mins as recommended by the owner. I severed the new cake, same disappointing results as last time dry, dry, dry. My husband even said "wow this is hard to get down", so sad. We want to support small business, but my office uses stop and shop for work birthdays and lately, they've been 100% better. I'm sorry Benkerts, if you fix the dryness we will come back. PS-Staff was very friendly, and everything looked beautiful and clean. This review really is all about the cakes. read more

You have to wonder why they have a prominent sign at the register that no refunds are given without a receipt. How many people were asking for refunds that this became an issue? I grew up in Centereach so I've been familiar with Benkert's for decades and the quality has definitely declined a bit. Despite that, when things are fresh, they're generally good (although a little pricey). But I still occasionally leave with something that turns out to be stale. They've made some effort to correct this, for example, by filling the cannoli fresh to order. Just make sure to ask if what you're buying (especially pies and cakes from the display) is fresh. read more

This place will always be 5 stars for me, as I have been coming here for at least 35 yrs. My family came here way back when I was a kid. It is the best . Living in Medford, I do have a bakery in Patchogue that is closer. When I want the best, I come here. I get all the family birthday cakes and special occasion cakes here. When my daughter turned 6, they made her the most awesome castle cake any princess could ever want. Her Sweet 16 is coming up in a few weeks and the catering servers I am using get the cakes here, how sweet. I just recently bought one of their fabulous holiday cakes and I am NEVER disappointed. At Thanksgiving I bought a simple, but nicely decorated cake here and my stepmother(from Michigan) raved about she never saw such a fancy cake before. I told her that was one of the simpler designs. I went to this bakery yesterday after all the good things i heard about them. But I was very disappointed in the stale, doughy tasting the cookies I bought were! Also the woman who helped me wasn't very personable and must hate her job!! She threw the large chocolate chip cookies in a bag on top of the black and white cookies and smeared the icing on top of the black and white cookies. Unfortunately the trip to this bakery wasn't worth it!!! read more

The special was a $3 presliced marble rye which was not bad and lasted quite a while. The $2 chocolate linzer tart was an addictive lardbomb with dunkaroo frosting, though we both wished it was raspberry with chocolate, though a decent combo to try once. read more

I have to give one star because Yelp doesn't have ZERO star! This is the WORST Oreo Cheesecake I have ever eaten in my ENTIRE life!!! The cheesecake from elementary school cafeteria taste better! To say it's like cardboard is no exaggeration. I think they just use some sort of cheesecake chemical mix, add water and sell it for $14.95. If I were to live 5 minutes away, I would drive there and ask them to taste it. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AGAIN !!! read more

Over the course of a week visiting my in-laws, I think we came here nearly every single day. Maybe twice in one day. I'm not exaggerating, and I went home with a couple extra pounds to prove it. We ate pretty much everything- rainbow cookies, black and white cookies, crumb cake, sugar cookies, apple turnovers, chocolate croissants, crullers, jelly donuts, almond cake, and the Brooklyn cheesecake. Terrible customer service. I have been to Benkert's twice and never actually eaten anything they make. Both times I stood in 'line' (there was only a single customer who was already being waited on) while two or three people stood talking to each other behind the counter. When I asked for assistance they were busy. I left without buying anything. It's a shame since this place looks nice and the pastries are pretty (as I said I didn't actually buy any) but the really crappy customer service dooms it for me. No way I go again. read more

I've had a few cakes and pastries from here, all were tasty and fresh. And they are not too pricey which is refreshing. The tricolor cake was surprisingly delicious. I am very particular about tricolor cookies in general, and they made it into a cake. It was so moist and rich. The deli side is underwhelming. I've only been there 3 times and 2 times it was for a breakfast sandwich and they had no bacon. The other time I got cole slaw for a party, and it looked and tasted old. I love this place, I love their strawberry shortcake, cannoli cake, the mini fruit tarts and all those yummy cookies. This place has been in the same location FOREVER. My husband and I would drive by sometimes when I crave for some mini fruit tarts or napoleon. I get lots and eat it all.. Oh I have to also mention I LOVE THEIR BROWNIES! Many moons ago my lovely and delicious wedding cake was made by Benkerts. I no longer live near the bakery, but every time I'm in the area I stop in for either a Linzer tart or crumb cake. In my opinion, this bakery is far superior to any of those within a 15- 20 mile radius with regards to both elaborate and simple bakery items. I ordered a 3 tier Halloween cake, WOW. I was very pleased. Let me tell you the story. This cake was for my daugther's Spooky Sweet Sixteen. She is an avid baker and turns out some wonderful stuff ... I was under pressure. She wanted cake boss, Ace of Cakes, please. When I told about my choice she Googled Benkert's and somewhere there are some not so good reviews. This caused us to shop around for a different bakery, well all I can tell you is it made Benkert's position better because they were giving us twice the cake for half the price. Very unprofessional staff and especially the owner Andy Jr. Would not refund my money after I got food poisoning from their food. i recommend not to do business with this people.The owner Andy Jr's so dissrespectful I will newer go back there, I spent one night in the hospital and when got back ANDY Jr. didn't even apologize to me, instead told me to get out. I went here once and won't go back. It wasn't busy but the lady behind the counter was taking her time to help us. She was walking slow packaging the cake slow the whole process must have taken at least 15 minutes. When we finally got back and had our carrot cake it was horrible. They serve breakfast in the deli and it is HORRIBLE. I can not believe the bakery is great and the deli is lousy. Can not get eggs cooked the way I want. Bacon is always undercooked and appears raw. They are not consistent with the service of bagels either. You either sell pretzel & salt bagels or you don't. Seems they are out of stuff often. Decided not to waste my money here anymore and will go on to Centereach Deli, across from McDonald's. A little further out of my way, but DEFINITELY worth it. read more
