Met up with some foodie friends for a group dinner date at Belly Fish just as Miami Spice was getting started and honestly didn't think this experience was going to fill me up the way it did. Between their Spice menu and happy hour, I eventually found myself surrendering by dessert. Stellar flavors, great variety and enough to top you off. Let me highlight that instead of the typical bread rolls or chimps they have these divinely seasoned pickles that are simply addicting, maybe I had more than I should but much less filling choice than bread right?! I was flip-flopping between the Miami Spice and happy hour menus because who can honestly say no to $3 beers? I did eventually decide on their Lychee Nigori which was smooth, light and rather refreshing. Their crispy rice sampler came topped with spicy salmon, spicy tuna, spicy hamachi and spicy crab, and then came the hand rolls. I loved the little detail of serving them wrapped in a plastic sheet that you slide off from either side to preserve the crispness of the seaweed. It's a small touch that was highly appreciated on our table. Their Faroe Islands salmon and yellowfin tuna in both nigiri and hand rolls was incredibly fresh with such a clean presentation. Simplicity really does make you appreciate the flavors that much more. Between their Sushi Combo and Premium Combo, my friend and I were in sushi heaven. Naturally, as full as we felt we still managed a bite of their matcha and pistachio Rice Krispie treat and warm Liger's Cookie. That cookie was pretty amazing. My only tip would be mindful of parking. It's not the easiest to navigate without wondering if you'll come back to a warning on your car in the garage if all the paid street parking is taken but happy to say happened on our weekday evening meetup. Okay so it's raining, I'm craving sushi & I order delivery knowing full well it's not going to hit the same. I made my peace with it. Belly Fish did not get the memo. The torched salmon, spicy crab and avocado roll showed up somehow fresh & delicious and I almost felt bad for doubting it. I could eat four or five of those rolls easily and feel no remorse whatsoever. The tuna crispy rice was good too, a little too crispy for my liking but the flavor was there so I'll allow it. One was combined with the snow crab California rainbow roll and the other hamachi roll. The rainbow roll was the better choice. I'm usually not willing to do tasting menus because of the lack of variety for the price and I usually also leave hungry, but not with this one. The pricing is great and the portions are fat! I got the red miso crab soup, yellowfin tuna tataki & chirashi bowl with everything. If I had ordered that off the normal menu it would have been $57 vs the $49. Still not bad for options in the area from what I was able to find while in town. The rolls are very simple and i enjoyed that so much because you know they're not trying to cover up the taste of sub par food with sauces and deep fried oils. I've heard great things about Belly Fish back when it was take out only, but I live too far away to be ordering take out from there. Just fresh, clean fish, simple and delicious, not overloaded with sauces and a load of ingredients. There are not a lot of varieties in fish, but whatever they have is high quality. The first time we went, we were disappointed that none of the dessert options was available - due to a busy weekend. Seriously? It was a Wednesday. But the waiter offered us cookies, or another handroll instead, an offer we gladly took up, as there were so many things we wanted to try on the menu. For our second visit, the menu indicates that we can sub a dessert for handroll or miso soup. A great option for people who don't have a sweet tooth. Their regular prices are pretty reasonable for the quality, so it's a place I can regularly come for my sushi fix. My only complain is that street parking is not easy to find. You can park at Milan's garage though. The first few levels are for the supermarket only but a few levels up you can pay and park, $5 for the whole day. read more

To me, Belly Fish is an elevated fast casual sushi spot. They offer many varieties of fish, and even have ikura (salmon roe) based plates for roe lovers. The service is quick and easy and everything is nicely plated into these compartmentalized boxes. I love that they offer more than soy sauce. They have chipotle ponzu and yuzu ponzu (my favorite). I've never had an issue with the fish, it seems to be fresh, but the cuts are generally slightly smaller than other restaurants. Was feeling FOMO over this place so I made my way to coral gables with my bf to give it a try. I attached a picture of our receipt with everything we ordered. For the price... the sushi was not it. Everything was quarter sized. Flavor was nonexistent. All 3 rolls we ordered tasted the same, mind you one of them was wagyu steak - literally tasted like a crab roll. Their chipotle ponzu sauce tasted like nickels (best way to describe it tbh). I attached a picture with 2 little pieces of sushi - one of them is the Canadian snow crab roll ($16) , the other one is the Spicy Canadian snow crab roll ($14). Shrimp tempura roll- avocado was super fresh Torched salmon roll- my favorite Premium Nigiri Combo box- with a spicy salmon roll. Every single piece was beautifully packaged & definitely fresh. I would try it again, im curious about the tostadas, spicy tuna roll, and other combos listed on menu. My only observation would be that the portions are tiny.
