Last two visits the food just wasn't the same. Salad had too much dressing, all grilled meats tasted too charred and tasted like they were cooked on a dirty grill, forgot an item in my order and had to wait twice as long as I was quoted. I went to this place on a recommendation from a friend while in the area. I had a to go order of mixed shawarma with fatoosh salad and an order of the baba ganoush. It was ready fast and when I was leaving the lady said "if it's not excellent let us know". Well it was excellent! I have been to the middle east and fell in love with the shawarma. I have had it a few times in the states and have been disappointed. This time was different. Very good shawarma. I had the mixed plate of shawarma with beef and chicken. I think I liked the beef a little more than the chicken. It came with a choice of fries or rice. I chose the rice. Excellent choice!!! It also comes with a side salad. I had the fatoosh. Another excellent choice. I had never had the fatoosh before. I also ordered some baba ganoush. I love hummus but wanted something different. This is the eggplant version of hummus. It is very good and tangy. The whole order was $25 and enough food for more than two meals. I was very pleased with the portion size. Great experiance. My husband and I were flying into Detroit before a long drive down to Indiana. We were getting in around dinnertime, and we knew our choices for food where we were headed were kind of slim (especially around 11-12 at night, when we'd finally arrive there). I had initially suggested just grabbing something in the airport that we could eat while we were waiting for our luggage, but my husband insisted on searching for food around the airport - I had only seen fast-food places, so I guess I'm glad he continued searching, because he found this place. We liked it so much that we also stopped there for lunch a few days later before heading to the airport to fly back to NY. It's a fairly unassuming place in the middle of a strip mall, but the food was delicious. When we were there for dinner, I ordered the hummus with sojuk entree (with rice and tabbouleh on the side), and my husband got the mixed kefte entree (same sides). The hummus in my entree was so smooth that it was hard to believe that was even possible, and I loved the sojuk so much that I ordered the sandwich version when we stopped for lunch a few days later. Our servings of tabbouleh were pretty large, and the rice that came with the rest of the food was so massive that we had a hard time finishing it. The tabbouleh was ridiculously tasty - much better than my homemade stuff. My husband ordered the super falafel sandwich for lunch yesterday (apparently loved it, too), while I got the aforementioned sojuk sandwich and a small hummus appetizer to share with my husband, which we'd spread on the free pita bread at the table. The one negative that I will say - I think they put almonds in their rice. The rice is delicious, but I'm glad that my tree nut allergy isn't bad enough to give me more than a few days' worth of digestive discomfort, because the menu said nothing about those almonds. I only realized that it was likely almonds after I'd eaten about half of the rice. My one suggestion to the restaurant would be to please list that as a potential allergen for the folks whose allergies are much worse than mine. I can put up with my own symptoms, but some people's allergies can be downright deadly, and I know those people would love to avoid the nuts in that dish. For me, it's not enough to dock a star, but for other people, just be aware of this possibility! If you're looking for a quick bite on your way to or from the airport (or if you're staying in one of the many hotels nearby), this place is easy to get to, and you won't be disappointed. The prices are a bit higher for their entrees, but you do get a LOT of delicious food for the price. The staff are all nice, inviting us to sit anywhere we'd like as soon as we entered, and they're prompt about bringing us the food as soon as it's ready, checking on us a few times throughout the meal. If we ever find ourselves landing in Detroit again, I'm sure we'll stop here for a bite to eat. read more

The food was fantastic but the service was terrible. The waitress forgot to bring us our salads (gave them to another table) then offered us a different salad (from the other table) in substitution. We finally got our salads when our dinner came, which was rediculous. I asked for a soda when we ordered and she failed to bring that out as well! Other people who came in after us got their salads and drinks before we even got ours. We asked for boxes when we were finished eating and our check and we got the boxes but the waitress forgot to get it for us and went back to eating her dinner. We had to go up to the counter to get our check and she looked up at us like we were rudely interupting her dinner. I would have rated this higher (and given a better tip) but they need to address their waitress on her customer service. read more

This was one of my favorite meals in at least a year. The food was excellent with beautiful fresh ingredients perfectly seasoned, but that wasn't my favorite part of the experience. It was lovingly prepared and lovingly served. I wasn't sitting in some restaurant eating something on the menu, I was truly at the kitchen table while grandma kept bringing me amazing food. Just returned from an unplanned stop-over in Detroit, and visited this place based on the gushing reviews I found here and elsewhere online. My experience was quite a disappointment, relative to the vast majority of other reviews, so I feel compelled to provide my opinion. In short - don't waste your time or money at this establishment. First, the place looks like a cheap diner or cafeteria - stuffed in a strip mall near the airport hotels, the furnishings and decor are crass and unimaginative. The walls are painted with scenes of Beirut using all the bright and gaudy colors you can imagine. Furnishings are your basic cafeteria variety - straight-back stack chairs, wooden tables and booths around the perimeter. I place my order for quail, spinach pies and a salad. The salad was plentiful and tasty, but that's where the pleasantness subsided. As other has stated, service is unbearably pitiful and uncaring - basically a DIY joint. The quail was grilled with delicious Lebanese spices, but difficult to eat (no fault of the restaurant). Spinach pies reeked of vinegar - not the typical Mediterranean preparation that I was expecting. So, in summary here's how I would rate each aspect of this place (using the 5-star Yelp model): Food quality: 3 Food quantity: 4 Atmosphere: 0 Price: 3 Service: 0 Overall: 2 (I should have ate at the hotel!) read more

I had the the Chicken Tawook for 18.00. It was so tender that at first bite the texture had me wondering how it could be kabob chicken. This was very tasty marinaded meat. The fries were somewhat limp, leaving me wishing I had ordered Pilaf instead. The staff was friendly. I will definitely return to knock down more of the menu. read more

I come here every time I have a layover in Detroit. Each time I have come, the food has been fantastic. It's fresh and delicious. The appetizer platter is always good, and itself can be a whole meal. I don't eat meat, so I can not comment on their meat entrees, however, if you want a very affordable non-meat sandwich, I highly recommend the Super Falafel. It's about $5 and is wrapped in a huge grilled pita. Additionally, their hummus is on par with some of the best I've had. The service is usually not up to restaurant standards; but you're not coming here for service, you come for the great food. It's family owned and operated; which is quite obvious. The mom has better customer service skills than her daughter, but I can't imagine her daughter loving her job. If you ever saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," it's eerily similar. At any rate, go here for the great Mediterranean food; you will not be disappointed. They also do take-out (recommended). read more

Horrible service, it wasn't busy and waited 20 minutes to be served. Gave us bread as a complementary service but it was cold and dry and served as it is. Didn't even take drink orders when seated and continued to make us wait. Waitress had an attitude , that she owned place and didn't care. Love the food. I've probably been here a dozen times or more- anytime I'm staying in DTW at the Sheraton I have to walk over to Beiruit Restaurant and get my fix. Shawarma so good it's now the standard by which I measure all other shawarma. Kibbe is tender, melt in your mouth little torpedoes of deliciousness. AND, if you're a garlic fan, the garlic yogurt sauce is absolutely divine. Makes my breath TOTALLY socially unacceptable, but I don't care. It's that good. Pita is home-made, tender, and delicious. I was told how inexpensive and good this restaurant was by 4 people. I'm guessing the price of chickpeas went up since my co workers at here. I always crave hummus when I eat middle eastern food. I ordered a chicken shish kabob plate and a small hummus with a water and ended up paying over 23.00 plus tip. The food tasted great and was what I expected. It was just as great as every other middle eastern cuisine. I can't say it was any better. The customer service was less than adequate. There was an older gentleman that kept yelling at the young ladies. The music kept skipping and was obnoxious. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you can't find anything else to eat. read more
