We chose Al Ameer West in Dearborn for a graduation celebration, and overall, they delivered a first class experience. We ordered chicken and beef shawarma along with two large trays for about 20 people. As you can probably guess, I completely overestimated how much food 20 people could eat. But when the food is this good, having leftovers isn't exactly a problem. Everyone ate well, and plenty of people went home with food. Our party arrived around 2 PM, and the manager jokingly told us, "We close at 10 PM, so that's how much time you have." That set the tone immediately. We never felt rushed and were treated extremely well throughout the celebration. The ambiance was outstanding, and our waiters did a great job handling a large party. My only issue came with the drinks. Canned pop was $2.50 each, and some members of our party kept ordering them as the waiter continued offering more. I didn't realize how much that was adding to the bill until it arrived. To the manager's credit, once I raised the concern, he worked with me and split the additional cost. Excellent way to handle a customer concern. Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service, and management that understands hospitality. I've moved away from the area, but I still find myself coming back to Al Ameer's whenever I'm in town, that alone says a lot. The night started off great, the hostess seated us at our favorite table, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, our server set a completely different tone. She was rude from the start. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but that kind of attitude shouldn't carry over to customers. There were 7 of us, and I will say the food came out quickly, which we all appreciated because we were starving. We ordered the whole boneless chicken, chicken shawarma sandwich, fried kibbie, rice, hummus, and salad, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food never disappoints here. The only downside was... where was our server? She was pretty much nonexistent throughout the meal. Thankfully, I asked my favorite server to take over, and he stepped in without hesitation. I love both locations of Al Ameer, but I'll focus on this one for reviews' sake. This location is optimal, whether I'm coming from or going to the airport, shopping, or whatever the case may be, it's a great stop on my day of activities. It's esthetically beautiful. There's lots of parking; and the staff is always wonderful. Very accommodating and friendly. The restaurant is family oriented, but also great for business lunches, dining with friends or solo. They also offer catering. The food is top-notch and always fresh. The menu boasts lots of the Mediterranean favorites, such as raw juices, smoothies, breakfast, flat bread options, various salads, schawarma, burgers, appetizers (the roasted potatoes--yum), and healthy meals such as vegetarian options, chicken and lamb entrees. Don't forget a yummy side of warm pita bread. I usually order as I did this time, a Fatooush salad with extra garlic on the side. First time eating Al-Ameer and it's the last. I have driven past the location several times and figured I would give it a try. The power was out the first time I ordered pick up and didn't find out until I arrived. The second time I ordered pick up today via Door Dash. The ETA seems too quick so I called before leaving home. I called twice a few minutes apart l, they picked up and hung up on me. Customer service was not great. Not greeted and the employee at the counter was not be welcoming. It was 1/2 full but the kitchen was busy. I get to the counter and the young man working got my order and I asked about the phones working on not. He hung up on some calls is what it came down to. Not really helpful. Food was not worth the hassle. Bread was dry. Like dry dry. Garlic sauce was not good. It was in a condiment packet. That turned me off. Salad was a massive bed of greens with a thin chicken breast. It was seasoned well. Sandwich was okay. I'd drive to Pita Cafe in Oak Park for Mediterranean before I'd go back here because the food and service is so much better. They get a lot of local residential customers based on everyone who was dining in. I have never felt more unwelcome in a restaurant than I did today. Here is another spot we visited back in January and I get a screen flash notification to write a review...TODAY. Since we can't fire up the wayback machine, we will dig through the grey matter and do our best to shed some light. First thing I'd like to point out is how lucky you residents of the Detroit area are. The largest population of people from the Middle East are here. The food opportunities are overwhelming. You really should be out here trying them all. What an opportunity! We've never called this Al-Ameer West, but instead, Al-Ameer Dearborn Heights. They've always been extremely friendly to me. Even on my first visit, they helped walk me through the menu. That's what made our last visit so shocking. On a recent visit things went bittersweet (leaning more to the bitter than the sweet). The meat hit our table undercooked for the first time ever. When I asked them to just chuck it back on the grill for a few minutes, I heard some type of grumble and our waiter storm off. He returned with a whole new order. I'm old school, no need to waste food and go to all that trouble, just seer it up and slap it back on the plate. Thank you, Chef, for your devotion. Screw-you server for mumbling at us in some strange Farsi-speak, like your back in middle school. That and your apathetic attitude the entire time did the best you could to totally ruin a delightful meal. Their dining room is the perfect size and the atmosphere is very comfy, especially at main meal times. The menu is packed with winners. If you're new, the shish kebab is reliable, as is the shawarma. The Beirut Hummus has jalapeños, so beware. Their salads are all excellent. I've always felt their prices were extreme. My son and I went to Al Ameer Restaurant in Dearborn Heights for dinner about an hour before closing. We asked our waiter, Bilal, if it was too late to dine, and this exceptionally kind, courteous, and professional gentleman warmly assured us that it was not. He even told us that, had we arrived a little later, he would still have been happy to serve us. Bilal was incredibly patient, attentive, and helpful. He took the time to answer all of our questions and guided us in choosing the perfect dishes. The food was absolutely outstanding--delicious and prepared to perfection. The portions were generous, and the prices were amazingly reasonable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated. Everything was simply perfect. To top off a wonderful dining experience, Bilal surprised us with a complimentary rice pudding for dessert, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. My other son and his family had previously dined at Al Ameer and shared the very same opinion. They were equally impressed with the food and the outstanding service, and they, too, were fortunate to be served by Bilal. I wish I could give this restaurant more than five stars! 4.5. When talking about Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food in SE Michigan, the name Al-Ameer inevitably comes up. They're a staple in these parts and currently have three locations: Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Canton, in order of founding. They're known for classic takes on Lebanese food and aside from slight tweaks on consistency of meat moisture (lol is that a term), much credit to them for showcasing some major deliciousness! My first experience was eating with a friend and her family. We arrived at 6pm with reservations and were seated at a booth. Seating easily fit over 100 at this location, and is comprised of booths, smaller and larger tables in different areas in the main dining room. This location is a little fancier in using white table cloths, and we saw several larger parties of 10 or more quite dressed for a special occasion. There's also a large private room in the back I believe bookable for private functions. Food-wise you can't go wrong with the fattoush (crispy fried pita mixed with a freshly dressed lettuce salad), tabouli (a tomato/cucumber/parsley salad), stuffed grape leaves with rice inside, sujuk (a spicy fermented sausage)--all terrific! The pita comes out warm and soft, and their white garlic sauce is so good they've bottled it and sell it at local chain supermarkets like Kroger and Meijer. Their hummus is creamy and heavenly. For meats on my first visit we shared an Al-Ameer Platter $34.99 consisting of a skewer of each: chicken shawarma, beef shawarma tawook kabob, and two kafta. We also got a Combo Platter $24.99 which was composed of a shish kabob, tawook, kafta, falafel & served with hummus, salad, and your choice of fries or rice. The meat was grilled perfectly on my first visit, and seasoned well. Subsequently for takeout chicken has occasionally been drier but nothing inedible. Overall, the food was decent except the Chicken Gallaba (recommended by your waiter) was a disaster. It tasted like little chicken pieces with lots of onions plus some vegetables boiled in Tomato sauce! Anyways my son ordered the Lamb Chops which tasted good but there was no amount mentioned on your menu? And the price we learned later was $35.99! Quite expensive but we as customers we were not informed this price until we saw our bill? Not a fair practice. a customer should be informed the cost of any dish (even if it is seasonal or "Market driven" item...before customer decides to order that or not. The waiters took their time always seen talking and gossiping amongst themselves. So we were a family of 4 people, and the waiters added 18% Gratuity - for large party REALLY 4 people are a Large Party?? Then you guys added 3% credit card surcharge WHY? No restaurant does that! Again, if you want to add CC surcharge let the customer know!. Lastly after paying $149.40 I was not given the Receipt despite asking for it at the table. Went to Al Ameer for the first time and it was so delicious! They give you fresh warm bread when you arrive and you can order dips if youd like. My friend and I shared a chicken combo platter and it was more than enough for two girls! My favorite was the sausage? Skewer and the chicken shwarma! They were so flavorful and delicious! I have been here once for lunch and once for iftar buffet. My first time there, I remember it being packed but the bill was so expensive for the actual food that was ordered & received. For the iftar buffet, the same story. Dry meat, 2 rice options, some hummus, baba ghanoush, watermelon/qatayef was $52/person. Extremely expensive and regretted going there. We used to stop by this Al-Ameer, and also Ab's in the same lot all the time when he used to live in Dearborn Heights. We came in on a Wednesday night and were seated right away. We split the Stuffed Lamb and an order of grape leaves. The stuffed lamb came with a side salad and also pita. It was as good as we remembered. We have eaten at Al-Ameer on Warren in Dearborn and have never been disappointed. We decided to order from the Dearborn Heights location because it's closer to our home. When deciding how much food to order for Christmas lunch, the waitress suggested that we order individual trays of food because it would be more cost-effective. We decided, however, to just order one large (4-6 people) and one small (2 people) tray. We requested all rice, no French fries with no problem. When we asked to replace the four falafels with something else, she told us no. (Other restaurants will replace them with more meat or stuffed grape leaves.) She was obviously mad that we didn't go with her suggestion. When we got the food home, there were French fries, a small container of hummus that was watered down to soup consistency, a few onions, and some shredded lettuce, but no tomatoes or peppers or pickled turnips. The bread was hard. The trays were more than half rice. In fact, the smaller tray had almost as much meat as the larger one. The salads were quite small. I will say that the food, except for the hummus, tasted good but the trays were way overpriced for what we got. To top it all off, a tip of $34 was suggested just for taking an order! We have ordered food from other restaurants nearby that had way more food, better quality and were much cheaper. We'll be returning to one of these other restaurants next year. read more

The lunch portion came with one skewer each and lots of rice, and the dinner portion came with two skewers. And we could smell lamb on our other skewers that were supposed to be beef!!! It was possible they messed up our order too. The rice was beyond bland; it didn't have any flavor whatsoever. I had much better rice from other restaurants where they served garlic rice. The pitas from this Al Ameer though was quite good; they tasted fresh and housemade. The hummus was good too. The garlic sauce was extremely disappointing. It tasted like yogurt with no hint of garlic whatsoever. Such a major bummer. Price: 0 of 1 The lunch portion which came with one skewer each and lots of rice cost $10, and the dinner portion which came with two skewers cost $18. The meat was so little compared to the rice that I didn't feel it was justified that they charge close to $20 for two skewers of meat. To me it was kinda ridiculous. Okay wow where to begin. I've been going to my regular Lebanese restaurant locally for years. I decided to try somewhere else and had heard good reviews of Al Ameer. Let me just stop you now before you decide to try it. Don't go here. We went for dinner on a Monday. Not too busy at all. The service somehow was still so slow. We ran out of water and waited 30+ minutes before the server returned. All the wait staff seemed like young kids who spent most of their time chatting with each other behind the host stand, ignoring their tables. The food was extraordinarily disappointing. My husband had the meat shawarma dinner. He and my dad both ate some of that and agreed the meat was inedible. They couldn't chew it. My dad ordered the chicken liver. He ate a few bites and left the rest. He said it was terrible. The only decent thing we ordered was the Beirut Hummus with jalapeños. I ate falafel and lentil soup and spent the next day sick as a dog. 13/10 would not recommend. Also important -- There were 3 dead cockroaches on the floor of the stall in the women's restroom. Can we get a health inspector over here soon please? Yikes. Do yourself a favor and drive a few miles East down Ford Road. Wow! What a wonderful place! From the time you step inside service begins. We were greeted by a delightful host. Then came Mary! Lovely server! Mary came to our table with a smile and allowed us time to make our menu choices. Throughout our stay Mary made sure we had plenty of water, and bread. The bread was fresh, hot, and delicious just like the food! We feel in love with Mary because she showed compassion, kindness, and her smile. The ambiance was personal and calm. This was a great discovery. Based on a suggestion, came here with a group and the place on the inside looked very trendy, clean and elegant like a high quality restaurant. I liked the raw veggies they served along with pickled turnips with a nice savory/spicy sauce along with our appetizers of hummus and tabbouli. The bread was good too which was like naan, but they also brought out bigger flat breads that looked like a large fish and they were delicious. I ordered the Super Deluxe Sandwich which had hummus, falafel and tabbouli which tasted great! I also ordered spicy potatoes dish which was good and flavorful and lentil soup which never fails. Everything was so good and better yet, the portions in this place is very impressive! They give you plenty and then some! That's what I'm talking about, I love places where they give you great, generous portions that almost make you blow up, but yet you need a take out container to save the rest of your food later. The service was good too, out waiter was very accommodating and he gave additional bread that we could take home with us in addition to the take home boxes.
