Stopped by Z Shawarma King on a Sunday. I was craving Lebanese/Middle Eastern food. I'd seen the restaurant, but never stopped in. I'm happy I did this day; and will definitely go back. The menu includes all of the favorite Middle Eastern fare, including falafel, Hummus, Fattoush and other salads, and fresh juices. I ordered a chicken shawarma with extra garlic to go. It smells so good that I had to take a bite or three before I pulled off. It was delicious and a huge portion, so it was definitely worth the stop. The ingredients were fresh. The pita was soft and the chicken was moist and tasty. It was all the things that you would want in a shawarma. I'm going back soon for the shawarma platter. The price point was great, service was friendly, and the menu seemed packed for the goodness. Z Sharwarma King is your basic neighborhood Middle Eastern restaurant. They pretty much just offer what all the other similar restaurants offer around Metro Detroit, but their execution is definitely above average. Do be warned that this is a family establishment and they don't necessarily adhere to their posted hours - there's been a couple of occasions where I dropped by and they were closed when they were supposed to be open. This actually happened the last 2 times I went before noon which was a bit annoying. Luckily, this past week I finally caught them when they were open and got what I usually get: the Lunch Special C, which typically offers me enough food to last 1.5 to 2 meals. Lunch Special C ($9.99) - This lunch special comes with rice, katfa, chicken shawarma, some veggies, pita, and garlic. The rice is very earthy with a rich cinnamony taste and the perfect al dente chew. The kafta is rich, meaty, and dense with a great meat and parsley flavor. It comes in a single large patty, which is griddled to create a nice crust. It doesn't look like they fresh slice their chicken shawarma anymore as I noticed the shawarma grill was empty. Instead, they add very generous amounts of spices and salt, then pan fry the meat. This makes the shawarma is a bit on the dry side, but isn't too bad. I think this is the one item that has gotten worse over time unfortunately. The garlic here is whipped until fluffy and mixed with lemon juice for an acidic twinge. I prefer a less acidic and less whipped toum, but it worked well with all the rest of the food here. The tray also comes with some tomato, red onion, and pickles to make your own shawarma sandwich with the included pita. Everything is very salty, so be sure to have a couple of cups of water on hand. The price actually went down to $9.99 from $11.99 the last time I visited, but the amount of shawarma they give is also noticeably less than before. It's still a good amount of food for the money. I'd say the food at Z Sharwarma King is good but not outstanding. It's certainly a good choice if you don't want to drive to Dearborn and I still plan to go every once and a while for lunch. Edit: I've been told that they do still cook the chicken shawarma on the spit. I guess I went before they had a chance to put it up for the day? The meat I got was more of the scrappy, unshaved portions, so it could be leftovers from the previous day or something. Not sure, but I guess it's better to go later in the day if you want fresh shawarma. read more

I ordered the meat grape leaves and was initially given cold. Hard grape leaves. I took it back in and asked for it to be remade only for it's the same as if they steamed it and pretended like they were fresh. This is such a disappointing meal. Yes they live in Dearborn and found a home in Allen Park, with hundreds of regular customers for a very good reason. Next door to Rams Horn on Southfield, easy parking, dining room and patio. You've probably flew past it a hundred times, stop in for really quit take out or dine inside. Our favorite menu item Z Shawarma Platter , Chicken Tawook n Chicken Breast along with Chicken Shawarma carved directly off the spit. Comes with flavorful Rice, Pita Bread, Toum Garlic Sauce and Tahini. A small Fatuous Salad n I always add a order of French Fries they really good . So two of us ate filled our bellies and took home enough for a whole other meal. Under $30 a true mega Deal, the platter is $23 which would be $35 plus in Dearborn restaurants. The service was really nice, the person helping me was very patience and kind. But to note that they might not be opened at the time they say they open if you are planning to go right when they open! The food there was really good for the price. The value of food you get for the price and the taste is really good. I had the Chicken Shamwarma and the Meat Shamwarma and I personally liked the Chicken Shamwarma. The chicken was cooked nicely as it was juicy and pretty flavorful, adding the pickles and the sauce was a really good balance. The meat Shamwarma was also pretty good I feel like it felt lighter than the chicken one because of the onions and tomatoes added which was a good balance. The ambiance is like any other normal restaurant where you order up front and either take it to go or eat in, but nothing fancy. I still love coming here to enjoy a fabulous chicken shawarma sandwich on the markook bread. You have to get a full sandwich but that's not an issue because it's so darn delicious It's softer than typical pita bread which gives it a nice "chew" but also crispy because they grilled the sandwich. Seasoning for shawarma's is spot on, good ratio of flavor from: chicken, garlic spread and pickle. I always say I'm only going to eat half but I can't stop myself! Today I had tabouly salad and it was so refreshing with the beautiful parsley roughly chopped, onion and tomatoes. Their dressing is also delicious, as the vinegar doesn't overpower the fresh flavors. They have a large selection of French Bread sandwich options, if Middle Eastern isn't calling out to you that day. Freshly made juice smoothies are available and new to me are cups of cut fresh fruit for a natural sweet tooth satisfaction. I still highly recommend zShawarma King for very good tasting food, high quality ingredients and quick, friendly service. I tend to dine in 90% of the time because I enjoy it most when the food is hot and the steam doesn't affect the textures of my sandwiches, fries, falafel- as may occur with carry out. I decided to try this place since it's within walking distance from my house and I wasn't disappointed. Pretty decent food. Prices are very reasonable which makes this review lean more towards a four star. However, the reason for the three stars is due to the most common thing I order - the chicken shawarma. It comes with chicken and a pile of grease. They generally get the food out pretty quick too, but another thing I noticed is that they aren't the cleanest. Place definitely needs an uplift. The rice is so soft it's like giving my teeth a vacation. It's flavorful to boot. Portions here are very large. I got enough on the "Z platter" with a side order of hummus to make three meals. That platter came with grilled chicken, tawook and shwarma. A good mixture to try the menu. The shwarma was average, and the grilled chicken nothin spectacular. The tawook though, among the best I've had anywhere. The platter also came with a huge order of pickled, pickled onions and a large portion of garlic sauce and pita bread. The pita was store bought and cut into quarters, not fresh made. That's what stops this from being a four star review. The restaurant was much more spacious than I'd have thought based on the outside of the building, though I got carry out. With this place being only a few minutes away from where I work, I order from here at least once a week. My favorite being the BBQ crispy chicken sub. The chicken is cooked very well and the sub is made to perfection. The best part is it's very filling. I only end up ordering half a sub and it always fills me up. I had a carry out and it turned out the guy gave me a different order with two more shawarmas . I called in and got a refund immediately and the guy told me to keep the extra food. Ordered delivery with grub hub. The employees are friendly. The food was ok but not great. Kind of a let down. Not sure if it's cause I ordered close to closing time but the burger was over cooked, dry, and tasted like a frozen pre-seasoned patty. The onion rings are good just a little chewy. The fries that came with my burger were too soft and not seasoned with anything. Not even salt. On a good note they give you a good amount of sauces/ketchup. Well Z is one of those places I stop at when I need a quick bite. I try to avoid fast food places like McDonalds due to health and quality concerns, and I definitely prefer middle eastern cuisine over American fast food. One thing I love about this place is that they make your food to order. You don't have to wonder if it's been sitting on the line all day. It's made fresh for you as you wait. They will also cook it to order, which is great for me because I like to substitute ingredients, such as pita bread for sesame. I don't know why it took me so long to try this place but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate for pick up and it was still got & fresh by the time I got home. You get a ton of food for such a cheap price. It wasn't the best chicken shawarma I have ever had, their rice was a tad bit bond but the chicken was delicious. It's a rather big menu that expands outside of middle eastern cuisine. I remember seeing lots of american deep fried appetizers. Place is nice and clean, but the food really blew it for me. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Platter that came with rice, I thought it would be chargrilled, because that it pretty standard for these types of places, instead it was cooked on a flat top grill, even though they had a char broil grill clearly visible in the kitchen. The chicken breasts were really thin, and covered in a reddish sauce/marinade. The taste was just alright and the portion of chicken was pretty small for the price. Came in the box with a big glob of garlic sauce and pickled beets and pickles. Pita included was the standard thin pita you can get at most E. Dearborn bakery's. The rice was some of the worst I have ever had, It was a deep yellow color and tasted like it was cooked in a really salty chicken stock, I am used to the rice pilaf with almonds that is pretty standard at most Middle Eastern places. I would rate Rice a roni better than this mess. Also ordered a small hummous that was loaded with oil and way to over powered with lemon juice. you could not taste the garbanzo beans at all. Also found several big hunks of raw garlic in it. Over all very disappointed in the food, even took the leftovers over to my parents house and they tasted everything and agreed it was pretty awful and we ended up throwing the rest away. read more

They adjusted our bill before telling us because they didn't agree with the prices they had on their online ordering form. We ordered online the lunch specials ($4.99 with a choice of 12 sandwiches) through grubhub. We had no issues and it was delicious. We ordered the following week, and suddenly we get a price adjustment after confirming payment that we did not agree to. Then we get a call from the restaurant with the owner telling us that we were incorrect about the menu online through grubhub and he was going to adjust the prices. We told him that we ordered online through his Grubhub ordering form and did not set the prices ourselves. He disagreed, saying that his prices were different and we shouldn't have been able to get the lunch specials. We said that we had ordered the previous week with no issues. He said that he called us then too, but we did not pick up. There is no record on our phones of his "attempt to call". We also were given a lamb sandwich when we all ordered chicken. The food was good, but we WILL NOT go back because Z Shawarma King has an online menu that they do not honor. They adjusted our bill before telling us first and pretended that they had already told us we messed up on our original order. I hope the $4 was worth losing our business, and the business of anyone we interact with about lunch. read more

Disgusting food, terrible customer service. I was yelled at across the phone because I called in about the gross food we were sent. We order through DoorDash, and they blamed them for their disgusting food. The man I talked to yelled at me, and all I was asking was to have my constructive criticism taken with at least a grain of salt. I will not ever order here again, and I suggest you don't either. They are rude people yelling at customers and serving terrible food that my dog won't even eat. I am horrified by the service, never have I ever been yelled at by an employee. read more
