My take out order took more than 25 minutes around dinner time and the take out process was inefficient. The order was placed in person for one chicken shawarma sandwich. The staff seemed overwhelmed and once my order was ready, the food was sitting on the counter for a few additional minutes. It's difficult when traveling to find Middle Eastern food. It's even harder to find good Middle Eastern food. This is a good Middle Eastern restaurant. A short walk down the street from the hotel to get carry out from the Beirut Restaurant. They had good ratings in Yelp A lot of the reviews made it worth a try. I'm glad I did. I wanted to get a good sampling of all the food here so I tried a main dish called, the mixed grill dinner. It includes lamb, chicken, and steak for meat. It also includes some veggies and a very large portion of rice. The meat is lightly spiced, but not overpowering. With the spice some of the flavors of meat did get a little muted, but it was all good. A plentiful supply of rice finished off the entrée. This was very good. A hint of Jasmine and not over spiced. Included in the meal were plenty of bread and sauce for dipping Also ordered a side salad with their own homemade dressing. It was quite good and the portion was big. Need dinner by DTW? GO HERE! We were meeting family passing through Detroit and needed a restaurant close to DTW. Many are attached to a hotel or fast food...and then we found this gem! It's small BUT has ample seating including for party of 6! Basket full of pita bread as soon as we arrived and a carafe of water while we looked over their extensive menu. Our server Carmen was FANTASTIC and super nice and even took a group photo for us. Four of us ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich, one a falafel sandwich and one a stuffed lamb plate. We also tried the appetizer platter which had 2 stuffed grape leaves, 2 falafel balls, Tabbouleh and 2 kinds of hummus. All was incredible! I was so excited catching up with our guests that I didn't take many photos once our food arrived. Everything was absolutely delicious. The stuffed lamb plate was a really good portion size. Restaurant was steady but we were able to sit and enjoy without being rushed out. You pay at the counter at the end and they had packaged dessert platters of baklava and other pastry treats. My husband grabbed one for us to all share before left. Thank you Carmen and Beirut Restaurant for taking care of us today while we had a wonderful family meal. Their main cook (heavy set, scar on side of face) dropped food on the floor, picked it up, and placed it back out for serving. This is also after seeing him eating chicken with his hands while actively preparing food. I reported it to the owner's son. Disgusting. Usually a fan of this place, but after seeing that - never again. Definitely needs to be reported to health inspectors. read more

Man great place for middle eastern cuisine!! I had the appetizer plate and the mixed shwarma. It was WAY too much food for one person! I had leftovers for breakfast the next day and still didn't finish it. There is seating inside but not a ton - probably 8 booths and 4 tables in the middle?? Very quick service. Kind of abrupt to be honest if you ask me but whatever I can be quite direct when I feel like it and am not always in the mood for chit chat so it's all good. Delicious food more than makes up for it. App platter had baba ganoush and hummus - both were good but baba ganoush was better. Had a nice little spicy kick. Great service and authentic food. We stopped in for dinner and our server was funny, knowledgeable, prompt, and attentive. She recommended a platter for two with a cup of lamb soup which fit the occasion perfectly. Many seats were full but the dining area was not noisy. Even with several tables our server took the time to regularly check on us and serve different options. Servers from other tables would collect finished dishes and such for our table very unobtrusively. The value was great and the food was very authentic. Every time I come to Detroit, I have to stop at this place because the food is THAT good. I usually get the chicken shawarma plate and a cup of lemon rice chicken soup (the cinnamon/clove spice makes it out of this world!) But ultimately, time and time again, I am always shorted something on my take out order. Last few times it was the soup, or my side of vegetables.... And today it was the bottle of water!! And I notice it always when I finally reach my destination that "something" is missing. They never mentioned -oh, BTW, grab a bottle of water from the fridge because it's not in the bag. Otherwise I have no complaints. The food is plentiful (when it is correctly and completely delivered) and flavorful. Just make sure that you check your order to confirm it's complete. It's so delicious sometimes I make a special trip just to come get it, but I wish it was closer to me so I could try everything on the menu. I always do take out, which is only like 15min, and you can wait at a booth if you want. It's very comfortable inside and I really enjoy chatting with the staff when I pop in. I stopped in because I was staying nearby, and I was glad I did! Super friendly service, and excellent food in generous portions. The baba ghanoush was creamy and flavorful. And the waitress was kind enough to offer me sliced vegetables to dip in it because I can't eat pita bread. I also really like the mujadra, the portion size is massive and I sub tahini for the yogurt to make it vegan. They do a lot of carry out especially in the evenings it can get hectic, but the servers do their best to be attentive to dine in customers. What an amazing little restaurant tucked in a strip mall. If you enjoy Mediterranean type cuisine and extremely friendly service, this might be your type of place. I came here for lunch because of two factors, 1 it's close to the hotels and 2 the Yelp reviews. Let's start with the service. I was greeted with a welcoming attitude which continued throughout the dining experience. I asked for recommendations and was directed to the sandwiches and/or salads. I got the mixed beef/chicken shawarma which was grilled in wrap and had a nice mixture of meat to vegetable ratio. Next time I would ask to go easy on the pickles but that's just a personal preference. For a side I was told I could get any salad as a side salad, so I chose the Greek salad.
