Fantastic experience all-around. The hummus, the chicken shawarma, and the baklava were delicious. Great portion sizes, very reasonable prices, and plenty of Mediterranean classics to choose from. Mo and his family run the restaurant efficiently, but they take time to interact with every patron. They were incredibly kind, funny, and welcoming. The restaurant itself is a hole-in-the-wall near the Detroit Airport, but the flavors and quality of the food deserve more attention. I highly recommend Beirut and will definitely be going back again soon! read more

This place is surrounded by neighboring restaurants but that doesn't slow business. It seems that the line never dies down and tables are hard to find but there is definitely a reason for that... the food is fantastic. If it wasn't for the mediocre service I would have given it 5 stars. Everything that me and my family had was delicious and tasted homemade. I would highly recommend getting the lamb dinner as well as the hummus. Me and my mother each had a sandwich and the balance of sauce, vegetables, rice and meat was spectacular. Downgraded from our previous 4 star experiences here at Beirut. We have been stopping in for at least one meal (lunch and dinner on previous trips), during our bi-annual trips into Michigan for business and to visit dear friends in Ann Arbor. This visit was not 4 star experience. As we walked In my wife told the young man walking away there would be 2 of us, he said over his shoulder, "Sit anywhere." We sat at the only clean booth available, figuring our 7:15 pm arrival was just after a dinner rush. Our waitress appeared from behind the register and brought over 2 menus. She asked what we would like to drink and we both said we would like the hot middle eastern tea we had last visit, clarifying CHI. The waitress said sure we have the Chi. A few minutes later she returned with two mugs, lemon and honey. The Tea bags in the mugs clearly said LIPTON. (NOT the middle eastern tea we had before). When questioned what happened to the Chi tea with the Horse head on the bag, the waitress explained that no longer carry the Lebanese tea. (SMH) A request for sugar free sweeter went ignored until I got up and got some Sweet and Low from a neighboring table. 5 minutes later (the tea would have been cold if I had waited) the young man walked by and dropped some sweeter in front of us. Dinner orders placed , our meals arrived 10 minutes later. My Lamb Shish Kafta was 4 oblong patties of grilled lamb with rice. The meal was ok, but again nothing close to meals we had enjoyed here earlier. Another indicator of reduced expectations was the bread basket on each table. Tonight the bread baskets contained 4 half slices of cold pita wrapped in saran wrap. I can understand and appreciate controlling food costs but not at the sacrifice of quality. New owners? New cook ? New opportunity for us to seek out another Lebanese restaurant in the Romulus area. read more

Got the mixed grill and it was wonderful. Meat loaf was excellent and chicken was good and moist. Steak was juicy and tender. Tahini and garlic sauces were tasty as well and complimented seasoning in meat well. Rice was well cooked, but hey rice is rice. Bread was fresh and soft, but I believe that should be a given. The salad was nice but a little overdressed. Was not able to eat the bottom section as it was drowned. Atmosphere is diner like so amd service was prompt and friendly. I wasn't crazy about this restaurant. I love Mediterranean food but this didn't quite meet my standard. I felt like the chicken tawook I ordered had a cinnamon seasoning base and I'm allergic. The cashier was humorous and engaging, and the food was simply delicious. One of the sauces for the shawarma plate was disgusting, but it probably tastes how it's supposed to taste- I'm not sure. The other sauce was pretty good though, and the meat was awesome! read more

Food is always on point! I love and usually always order the sandwiches as they are the best portion for you money: chicken gallaya or chicken shwarma... BEST in town! Greek salad is nothing special but the hummus and garlic sauce will knock your shoes and socks off! Now the experience: it's family run and you will see and possibly be entertained by the family antics. I was not sure what to expect from this restaurant when I walked in, but I heard Luther Vandross playing so thought, "I think I am in good hands." My wife and I loved this place. I was a big fan of the hummus. By far, the best homemade hummus I've ever had at a restaurant. My wife and I both ordered the Veggie Gallaya Entrée. We both loved our meals. Our server provided excellent service and great conversation. After we finished eating, we just sat there listening to the music. I ordered the spinach feta salad and was very disappointed. There was barely any spinach but tons of tomatoes. The tomatoes and the amount of salad dressing made the salad extremely soggy. I also ordered a side of grilled vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers) most of the vegetables were undercooked and I couldn't eat them. The tomatoes was a mushy mess. Frumpy digs, average at best service, terrible Greek salad that doesn't even come with kalamata olives, thin pita that just sits on the tables between customers. Whenever I am in the area, I have to stop by for their mixed shawarma entree! Although adorned with dated decor, the restaurant is clean and has a homey feel, great customer service provided by friendly staff, and consistently great food! If you are ordering takeout, I would recommend calling your order in instead of using the (albeit simple and quick) GrubHub system on Yelp. The GrubHub function messed up my orders a few times, but the aforementioned kind staff always took good care of me and made sure I got what I wanted. No matter how tired I am, or how cold and rain or snowy, I will always come here when I have a chance. read more

Inexpensive and authentic but very questionable cleanliness and horrible service. From the minute we arrived I don't think a single person we interacted with cracked a smile or put in an ounce of effort towards customer service. Our waters and meals arrived simultaneously. Additional drinks ordered only arrived after I flagged someone down and in the last few minutes of our meal someone tossed a baggie of pita bread on the table that was supposed to come with my dish and told me to put it in the "bread basket". Looking around I found a small basket with dirty napkins stuck in the corner of the table so we opted to eat from the plastic bag instead. I ordered a vegetarian platter. The baba ganoush, hummus, and falafel that I ordered were quite good but they definitely used an absurd portion of tabbouleh salad to conceal meager portion of everything else. The two other people I ate with had the chicken shawarma. One enjoyed real meal but the other found the meat to be low quality and stringy. It would have been a three star experience if it had ended there but I made the mistake of going to the restroom before leaving. It was so gross. Not, "someone before me was gross" but "we don't pride ourselves in basic cleanliness" level of gross. It looked like it hadn't been deep cleaned in weeks. Anxious to leave I went to the front to pay and behind the counter was food everywhere and containers of perishable food sitting out. I saw someone pulling raw meat kabobs from a fridge that were uncovered with bare hands. It looked like a health code nightmare and I all but ran out. As someone with food allergies I spent the next few hours on high alert as concerns about cross contamination seemed much more likely after seeing how they run things. If you want huge portions of decent food and have lax standards for cleanliness, you'll enjoy your meal. If things like sanitary meal prep and basic customer service matter, you're going to be severely disappointed. I will not be returning. read more

Great spot in DTW close to the airport. Family owned, super fresh, made-from-scratch, pretty much everything. The people are great and some of the best Lebanese/ middle eastern food I have ever had. The hummus for the appetizer was better than any I've ever tasted--seriously. The spices they used were perfect, not too salty, the meat quality was great, etc. I could go on and on. The fact that their food is tasty -and it is- is largely overshadowed by the attitudes of the staff that run this place. It's a bunch of teenage kids that seem like they're all family and act like it as the whole time I was here they were arguing, joking, and bickering with each other. The males were all treating the one female a little despairingly and every one of the them exuded little to no professionalism. I ordered one simple swarma and it took over 20 minutes -likely to do with the fact that they were fulfilling other take out orders and also that they were horseplaying around the whole time. When you have a customer sitting at a table, you ought to make them a bit of a priority. When I asked one of the young men what was taking so long, he retorted and laughed that it "wasn't my (his) fault" and went back to playing on his cell phone. Really? That's how you talk to your customers? No offer to right the wrong? Maybe offer something for the extra long wait? Ridiculous. I won't eat here again and wouldn't recommend anyone else to either.
