Our group ordered the split pot for AYCE, and we got the mushroom broth and spicy broth. For the fillings, I ordered sliced lamb, sliced beef, noodles, dumplings and many quail eggs. For an AYCE restaurant, I was impressed with the quality and taste of the meat, noodles, and even the broth. It definitely is a step above other AYCE hot pot restaurants. Right from the start the service here was very quick. We got our menus, chose what we wanted, and then within a minute food was appearing on our table. Strangely, they didn't offer to bring us glasses of water and we finally asked for it half way through the meal. However, they actually brought us everything we asked for where many other hotpot places usually forget about part of our order. The selection on the menu was pretty good but could have been better. When it's busy reservations are lined up snd servers need to clean and reset everything., even if its not busy, you need to go, I appreciate the last call and reminder of the time. Another yelper did not. The servers are very polite and tactful. It's all on the menu. If you re not familiar with the restaurant type, just ask, the manager is very helpful. Also the service is different, if you want another beer or beverage, or some dishes removed. You need to move them to the side of the table or raise your hand. It's a little different. The variety of food is good, my husband loves the dumplings. I prefer the variety of tofu and bean curd. The veggies are good, everything is always fresh, seafood is on the menu and if you like the really expensive or exotic food, it's available for a small extra charge. They frequently refill the soup, it simmers away fast. The restaurant is very clean and if you look in the kitchen, it's the same. Clean and sanitary is a big thing for me. It was about time for our hot pot craving to come creeping back so off we went in search of a new place to try. We came across Beijing Hot Pot when a friend mentioned she had gone before and it was pretty good. I trust her food tastes so off we went. First off, I never knew the plaza where Beijing Hot Pot was existed. It's down a street close to Fairview Mall, just south of the 401 and east of the mall. There a ton of apartment buildings and townhouses in this area so the parking lot was super tiny. Luckily we decided to walk so we didn't have to find parking. Upon first impressions, I could tell this place wasn't trying to be super fancy and they used plastic wrap wrapped around rolling bars to separate the tables and provide a bit of protection from other tables. Safe to say, it wasn't pretty but it did what it had to. Deco was decent and the place seemed clean. We were quickly sat (after we had to wait a bit due to being late for our reservations) and given our ordering menu. They provide these interesting hot pots with a middle spout, but you can decide to get the single, double, triple or quadruple split to try different soup flavours. We did the double on two burners between 6 people which was more than enough. We put in our first order and were presented our vegetables and meats fairly quickly. Service was great and they were very attentive, always taking our orders as soon as we raised our hands. Mind you this is all you can eat so we raised them quite often. The meat was really fresh and not frozen, and the vegetables were also clean and fresh. We also ordered a few fruit juices which again were delicious and made with real fruit! I was pleasantly surprised and happy with the food here. All in all, the price was about average as you would expect with AYCE hot pot and for the quality, I was very happy. This place is bombbbb. The variety and quality of food as well as the service are the highlights of this place. I always prefer AYCE because you don't have to enforce what you're getting and worry about what you'll pay at the end. The variety of items on the menu was really great, and they give you the food in the perfect quantities so you're able to try out things you're curious about without having to commit to it/risk you wasting too much food if you aren't a fan. My favourite food items include the sliced beef (super fresh), taro noodles (so fun and easy to eat!!), tripe, and the knotted kelp. You have to pay $8.99 extra should you choose to order a flavoured broth that isn't just water-based. I decided to go with the pork bone. I'm not a hot pot expert and have not tried too many broths in the past... but my take on it (TIP:) is that if you aren't picky and are a new hot pot eater, the water based broth will def suffice. The taste of the broth changes pretty soon anyways since you're cooking food in it, so if you get water based broth it becomes pretty flavourful eventually - if you like spicy, ordering the spicy beef will transform your soup broth drastically. Others might say otherwise that the broth matters but this is just my take as an amateur hot potter. The service here is excellent!! The owner/manager is always on high alert and manages the business very well, from the beginning stages of communicating with you and keeping you up to date with wait times, to your meal when he spots you needing attention right away and tells one of the servers who will assist you within 3 seconds. The servers are always standing by and watching over the tables... super attentive. Unfortunately the restaurant space is pretty small, so at peak times there definitely will be a wait. The wait time for me was an hour yesterday, but since Fairview is close by I killed time there and time flew by. I told this to the manager beforehand, who gave me a call when he noticed the guests in our table close to leaving, to give us enough time to make it back right before our table was fully prepared. One other minor detail is that their plates are bit small for eating off of, and I had to ask for a ladle as they don't give it to you right off the bat, which I found a little weird for a hot pot place. Overall this place is great. I'm not sure if you can make reservations but if you can, the only barrier is the wait times. So freaking good here!! I'd like to call myself somewhat of a hotpot queen and it's so hard to come by good AYCE hotpot. This place definitely met my expectations and more. AYCE with a large selection of options. We literally tried EVERYTHING on the menu and the best part, they ACTUALLY brought out of the stuff too. I typically find a lot restaurants don't bring half the stuff you order. We had 2 soups - tomato and mushroom. Both were good and flavourful. Service was very good, friendly and attentive. We went here at 2pm on a Sunday. Freezing rain will not keep me away from my hotpot! First thing that I noticed was the decor. Didn't expect this place to look so nice. It is located in a small plaza surrounded by apartment buildings. But! Lets talk about: The food Great selection of meats. They did not cheap out on the quality. Really good and very generous. Really delicious cuts of meat. They didn't have as much of a selection as I had hoped but what they did have was really good. I came in hoping for a sauce station but they have you check off on the order sheet which sauces you would like (again, small selection). This seems more sanitary to me and this also means I wouldnt have to wait in line for that delicious peanut sauce. The service The gentleman helping was nice. We asked for a few things that I thought would be given right away at the beginning (like a ladel and tongs- but most people apparently just use their chopsticks). But after that he intuitively got us what we needed. For the most part he was 2 steps ahead of us in anticipating what we would ask for. The price Its a little pricey. Again, they did not cheap out on the quality so it is $24.99 for adults plus $2 on weekends. The soup base is $6.99 and $8.99 if you get two. I don't know. But I do know, 100% for sure, that hot pot warms you up and nourishes the soul. Even when it's hot out, just turn on the AC and you're good to go! If it wasn't for a friend that set up a dinner here, I would've never discovered Beijing Hot Pot. For one, the Chinese name mentions nothing about Beijing. Despite this, it is repping the region proudly. The "Beijing" part comes from the Beijing style funnel pots. Food and service are both top-notch and at $30 AYCE, that's a great deal. I'm not usually a spicy fan, but I can't resist the "mala" flavours of Szechuan. They've captured that in a soup base. Another awesome soup base is the wild mushroom chicken soup base, which feels like a home remedy by grandma. The ingredients themselves are of great quality and fresh. What's even more refreshing is the absence of a "premium" menu, where certain items like seafood are unlocked only when you pay more. I already do that way too much for games and apps, I don't need that irl. Also included are things like fried dough sticks (油条) and crispy buns with condensed milk (炸饅頭). You don't realize how perfect it is to pair crispy buns and hot pot until you've tried it. Service is one of the best for a hot pot restaurant, nay, a Chinese restaurant. Firstly, they SMILE and are actually engaging. Secondly, they're on top of things so when they say they're following up on a missed order, they're actually doing that and not just saying it to shut you up. I hate that these new places are charging for drinks. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Don't pump me full of salt and leave me hanging. How much does plum juice cost you anyway. Great! Is this a new hot pot place? I don't even know, I don't even know how we ended up here, but we're happy we did! The food was good, fresh, and plentiful. One unique thing about this place is that aside from the usual soup bases, you can also get a plain water base, and it's free of charge. I don't like how after awhile, at other hot pot places, everything kinda takes on the same taste because the broth has gotten all concentrated and permeated everything. With this water base, all you taste is the natural taste of the ingredients, and you don't get sick of it so quickly. I really enjoyed that! Been to this place three times now and it's been amazingly consistent. Easily the best part is the service. They generally don't forget any food items, they're really quick to bring your food and they're just really nice in general. The place itself is visually appealing and well taken care of. They can get busy though so go early on Fridays and Saturdays - they offer to take your phone number when you're next. There's a pretty wide range of food choices so everyone will find something they like. Their greens and sides are really fresh too - some of them are really potent in flavour. The spicy soup base is also really potent so think about how much spice you like before ordering it! Should also mention that they don't have much in the way a variety of sauces, though this didn't bother me. Price is $24.99 (+$2 for Fri-Sun) per adult all-you-can-eat, plus an additional ~$5 for the soup (charged to the table, not per person), which is super reasonable considering their food quality and service. They take cash or debit. They have drinks and multiple seafood items that are a-la-carte though. Only downside was that the lobster tail my girlfriend ordered apparently wasn't washed very well (she mentioned it was a little grainy). Excellent prices (24.99 for weekday adult, free clear soup base) and a good selection of good quality food makes this my go-to AYCE hot pot place. The main server there offers excellent services too. My friend asked for raw chili, but normally they don't serve it (cuz it's not on their menu), but they managed to get some chili, chopped it up, and gave it to my friend to put in his sauce. Absolutely brilliant. I rarely find good service in hot pot restaurants (the only other time was at Little Sheep at Warden). The only complaints I have with them is that they shred the beef omasum and reticulum too much. I would much rather have a bigger piece. Also the style of their pot takes away some of the volume of the pot that could have cooked more yummy food (haha). They're very minor complaints that don't really take away from the great prices and food. Bottom Line: Arguably the best AYCE hot pot restaurant. Quality: 8/10. Services 8.5/10. Value: 9/10.
