Happy Lamb is my favourite hot pot in Toronto. I'm fairly basic and always get their classic broth, but it is my favourite base broth so far. I love the buffet-style arrangement so that you can have as much or as little of each item as you want, rather than having to lock in a fixed amount (which works better in a group, less so as a couple). The staff are very friendly and quick. I like that you can choose a single pot for a table of four, two pots, and even individual pots for each person. I don't know what their sorcery is, but the mini fountain drink machine is the greatest ever. I also love whoever came up with the idea of giving happy lamb-themed fake money as loyalty vouchers for a small discount on your next visit. They are so cute. Now for some criticism. Their soft serve ice cream is not very good. I would skip it. I'm not sold on the deluxe dinner menu. I think the regular/classic dinner is perfectly adequate for the main proteins. read more

This was our first ayce hotpot meal of the day since it was a friend's birthday and we were maxing out the birthday freebees. Bring 4 people to fill up the table and the birthday person eats free. With more of a cafeteria vibe, Happy Lamb is kind of famous for that birthday offer so it was an obvious choice. Brightly lit, and plenty of room to get our and mosey around looking at the different options for the hot pot, I noticed plenty of western style food as well like chicken wings, so it would be ideal for friend, family or tourists alike where you need to please everyone. Most chinatown places to eat are small, dingy and gross but this one was large, airy, spacious and the booths were spacious and had comfortable seating. But there were flies buzzing around which dinged my review a bit. I got the hot and sour soup base and it was delicious. I like the concept of self serve, they bring out sliced beef and lamb for you but otherwise you can pick and choose however much you want. They even had fried chicken and it was really good! I also appreciate the drink station which not a lot of buffets offer and at the end I got a taro soft serve. All the food that we got was delicious! There was tons of it and a lot of great variety. Their sauce bar also had everything you could possibly want to make the most perfect sauce. The people who served us were very efficient and things came out quickly. the only part that I didn't love was when you walked in there was a bit of a scent that wasn't the most appetizing. However, after being there for certain amount of time I didn't notice it anymore so perhaps it went away. I would 100% go back again and was delighted to see closer to when we are leaving that they are robots that deliver some of the food also. What differentiates this spot is 1) its very affordable price and 2) the fact that you can have separate pots to accommodate for allergies/preferences. I visited with a group that included one person with a severe seafood allergy, and normally we'd just completely omit seafood from our pots. But because of the personal pots, everyone was able to eat what they wanted! The clear broth is pretty good and the service is quick (they even have one of those robot servers). The location is in the heart of Chinatown so it does compete with some other great spots in the area, but it's definitely worth a visit! read more

Came here on a Saturday reso around 6pm, and surprisingly it wasn't too busy at the time but it was starting to form a line up. The menu had a good amount of selection but the meat of beef and lamb or pork comes in a big tray that they bring to make it simplified. Here you get your own individual hot pot to boil your own food. The cost for your own flavour for small is $4 and larger pot is $10. I chose the curry broth which was fine. There was a robot that would bring stuff over from time to time but mostly humans that would bring your stuff after you check off what you prefer. Overall the food was decent but I only wish the hot pot places would properly thaw out their food before bringing it to customers. I know we get mostly frozen stuff and a few that aren't like veggies, but the texture and taste may be a bit better when its thawed vs not. Pricing is good though considering for DT location and the broth charge is very reasonable compared to most places. I think weekend dinner was $28 + tax before cost of broth. In the end we got $5 coupon that expire this end of year to utilize if wish to come back. P/S: if you have food leftover that weighs more than 250G, you'll be charged market place.. This is def a hole in the wall vibe. Their chopstick wrapper says sauces are not needed for this style of hotpot and I thought, wow what an ego. AND THEY WERE RIGHT. Idk what they do to the meat or broth but I did not need to use any sauce for the meat. I had lamb, lamb balls, fish balls, mussels, and broccoli. THE LAMB WAS SO GOOD :') It absorbed the mild non spicy broth that I had and it perfectly complemented the lamb. It was basically a mushroom and goji berry brother. Pretty good. Quite standard hotpot place I would say. You get what you pay for and the quality of the food isn't that bad. I will say though that of all the little sheep Mongolian locations I've visited, I've enjoyed this place the least. Some random points: * The bench chairs are bolted to the ground and are so far from the table - you end up sitting on the VERY edge of your seat while eating - very uncomfortable. Definitely ask to sit at a table with chairs. * The juice and milk are free and you can serve yourself however much you want. * There's a bunch of other free food items by the dipping sauce station you can partake in - good for if you're REALLY hungry while waiting for your order.. Just don't fill yourself up too much. * The service is quite poor and the food always takes forever to come everytime I'm here. The lamb and beef melts in your mouth after cooking and the side dishes are very delicious as well! We got a half spicy and have mild broth which is great if you want to taste both! I must warn you the spicy broth is VERY SPICY!! I also liked how they had a little pamphlet of cooking time instructions for meat and other dishes as well in case you get confused! There's an abundance of hot pot restaurants in Chinatown Toronto but I'm a big fan of the Little Sheep chain. This location is basically AYCE because you can go through 3 rounds of food selections and there are other premium selections that are available at an additional cost. Their broth choices are milky (bone marrow broth) and spicy but you can also do half and half, AKA yin yang style. Beware of the peppercorns in the spicy broth because it's more of the numbing spice feeling! The meat is good quality and the portions are generous. They also have appetizers (ranging from cold noodles, seasoned veggies, etc.) that you can pile up on while you wait for your food to cook. And for dessert, it's only 1 round. Mind you, each plate of meat and vegetables contains a generous portion to be had. There were lots of food to choose from - seafood, lamb, beef etc, and lots of different veggies. Also there was a choice of spicy or non spicy soup base. The last time i was here they were still called Little Sheep Mongolian but I guess they've changed owners or rebranded. My friend and i got the non-spicy broth which has a lot of chinese dried herbs in it so its just slightly bitter (definitely an acquired taste) and very salty. Im a fan of the broth! Anyway, there's a choice of your standard meats (regular/garlic chicken, beef and lamb), vegetables (lettuce, mushrooms, tofu, seaweed), noodles and wontons. For the dinner menu, there's a larger variety of seafood items (fish, squid, mussels, shrimp, meatballs). The homemade pork/beef/fish/shrimp/lamb meatballs are a must try! There's also a buffet table with drinks (soy milk and prune juice [eww]), as well as make your sauce ... and random food (spring rolls, canned clementines). Overall, it's a great experience. Fantastic hotpot to be found here; I've been once and I'm hooked already! I was told by my buddy, a native of China and hotpot connoisseur, that this is the best location of Little Sheep Mongolian hotpot in the GTA. At this location, the clear hotpot broth comes with a wide variety of traditional Chinese herbs that apparently are not offered at other locations. If this is incorrect, please let me know. The clear broth is perfect, at once flavourful yet light. It envelopes any type of topping well, from potato noodles to meat to veggies to tofu, and imparts a flavour that's so good, you (gasp!) may not even need dipping sauce. Ingredients are aplenty and I wanted for nothing. I don't think they offer my favourite hotpot ingredient, fried fish tofu, but I honestly didn't even miss it because they have something for everyone. We ordered as much sliced lamb and beef as we wanted. For some reason we were limited to 3 rounds of veggie orders, but we ended up ordering all our veggies at once so it wasn't an issue. We drank copious amounts of plum juice to avoid becoming "yeet hay," but soy milk is also available. For dessert, you can order several tiny bowls of red bean or green tea ice cream, or try a fried mantou bun. For a ~$15 all you can eat lunch, you really cannot go wrong with this place. read more

I came as a party of 5 on a weekday, and chose the lunch menu with more limited options. Unlike other hotpot places I have been to, they charge you on the soup base in addition to the lunch price. They mention that first thing, and if I wasn't starving, I would have left right there as that is steep. All of us got the non spicy soup base, which was basically herbal. In addition to the hot pot foods, they have a table of side dishes (fried mantou, kimchi, noodles), but I do not recommend them as they were not fresh and did not taste good. Out of all the foods, the handmade noodles were probably my favorite. The chicken was my least favorite, as they looked pink even when cooked for minutes and had a weird taste and texture to it. Came here with a group of friends on a weeknight at around 6. We made reservations but it wasn't busy at all when we arrived. You order on a sheet of paper here and you are limited to ordering 3 times so choose wisely. The ingredients here taste fresh and delicious however the portions for some of their items were tiny (order a lot more of what you think you'd need for beef and fish balls). They also regularly forgot items we ordered. The worst is that they did not give us more beef and lamb even though we tried to order it twice after we finished our initial plate. We thought they only gave one plate which is why we didn't say anything but apparently that's not the case. So if they forget your beef ask for it. The choices at the sauce station is extensive and they even have a drink fountain with 3 options (gotta love soya milk). It was disappointing that we didn't get all our orders but nonetheless we had a good time and the food was good. Next time I'll make sure they don't skimp out on the beef and lamb. read more

The fish, shrimp, and lamb are good, but rest are average to mediocre. Get the plum juice. The service: now that's the worst part. The servers seem like they don't care about their jobs, not the friendliest bunch. They also forget orders, sometimes getting them wrong, even though most are written on a piece of paper. The price: it's reasonable for what you get, $23 for a weekday dinner. Conclusion: it's average for a hot pot place and below average compared to others from the same company. This place is such a great place to go all out on some great hot pot. It also doesn't cost you over $40 for endless amounts of meat and seafood. I love the expansive menu and selection and loved the service. For the lamb or beef slices, we simply could tell them the amount of platters to bring out instead of writing the amount of "slices" which I think is more efficient. The vegetables and various fish/meat balls were very fresh and I absolutely loved their mini buffet bar and bottomless drinks station. Food was stellar. We opted to get individual hot pots because the server advised it may be hard to reach if we had just 1 or 2. I appreciated the advice. We choose the all you can eat option and we were not disappointed with the selection. They had so many items to choose from - seafood, meats, vegetarian. Only disappointment was our stomach volumes. They give you a booth based soup on a hot pot and place it on the flat heat surface. You choose what you want on the menu to put into the pot and they bring it to you in little plates. This place becomes my favourite spot for hotpot AYCE. It has a nice atmosphere, quick service and the staffs are friendly. We're always here with group of 6 and we always have our own stove. I love their spicy broth. It's amazing! You can order 3 rounds for the ingredients you want to have with your hotpot (meat, vegetables, noodles,etc...) and they are all fresh. Like celebrity hotpot and other hotpot places, you can make your own dipping sauce. I always make mine with sesame sauce paste (look like peanut butter), soy sauce, a bit of garlic, a bit of vinerga, and chili oil. Some may not like the prune juice (they also have soy milk and water with lemon), but I think it goes well with the food. It won't make you feel full quick and feel heavy like soy milk. They didn't charge us for leftover but friendly remind us to not do it next time, which was very nice of them. Their ice cream is good!! I love green tea flavour. Unfortunately, you can only order ice cream for one time. So make sure you order more than as many as you want for that one time! Normally, I like fatty beef but that's marbling in the meat. This one was like.. bacon where it was just a little meat and two big strips of fat. The interior of this restaurant looks very clean, with nice black tiles, white walls, and white tables spread out throughout the space. The washrooms were also on par with the rest of the restaurant. Tables are available for various party sizes. You have the option of choosing to share a large pot, getting your own individual pot, or a mix of both. Their large pots are quite large, which would be more cost-effective if you're used to cooperative hotpotting or survival of the fittest. Up front they have the sauce station with 8 or so different sauces for you to mix and match. They also have a basket of eggs that you can use. There are also some sidedishes like potato strips, spicy cold noodles, spring rolls, or bread that you can take. You can also get some unlimited soy milk and plum juice. When ordering slices of beef/lamb, you don't get to put your order down on the sheet; instead, you have to ask them for it. Fortunately, they give you quite a lot of it compared to some other hot pot places that skimp on the meats. Also, you only get to order one round of ice cream (red bean or green tea, or both). Can't really say it's AYCE when you only get to have two bowls of ice cream, but I guess you can get unlimited soy milk and everything else on the menu. read more
