We went a second time because our first experience was so good that we wanted to try their other dishes, and now after the second time, we can't wait to return for a third. We definitely need to return with a bigger group the next time we go so that we can try more of their dishes! Our second time there, we had the "Night Market Chow Fun" and the "Chongqing Braised Beef." Both were excellent! Probably my favorite Chow fun now and the Chongqing braised beef was so tender and had all the szechuan tingly spices that open up your taste buds and sensories. We LOVED both dishes. It had the 3 chili pepper sign and the server warned us that it was very spicy, and IT WAS -- in all the good ways. May not be for the faint, though, so be careful. Not sure if they can adjust the spiciness. We enjoy their "film set" ambiance, giving it a cooler dining experience than your normal authentic casual space -- adds some flare for a date night or for friends. MUST RETURN FOR MORE!

We ordered the dan dan noodles for an appetizer, chewy noodles and good flavor. Then we had the custom dry pot (we put chicken, tofu, Napa and Choy medium spicy) that came out tasty and fast. And finally we ordered the crispy fish which was HUGE but crunchy and flavorful - definitely more food than we expected but it's okay! Servers were friendly and even though there was an error in our order they were quick and ways to fix. The restaurant is small and hole in the wall, feels authentic. AC wasn't on so a little warm with all this spicy food but overall will definitely come back with friends and family.

The restaurant is a few blocks from the main street of Steinway so it'll take a bit of searching. Going inside, the area is rather abstract. Pink flower wallpaper on one end and dry wall on the other, it's kinda off-putting but I didn't come here for the atmosphere anyway. Service was lukewarm, I got my order in but the two workers inside weren't too receptive and the menu itself is kinda barebones with most of their food being a bit more than I would like to pay for so I just settled on one order of Singapore Mei Fun. After waiting 10 minutes for my food to arrive, the Singapore noodles which are usually spicy were kinda salty but it was nothing a bit of duck sauce wouldn't fix. This one order cost $17 while not the worst Singapore Mei Fun...well technically it is, even though it's not horrible but I've had much better from other places for a stable price of $12. Yeah, a rather disappointing visit. Not the worst I've ever had but could be so much better.

I went with the Bolo Bun Cod Fish Burger with Wedge Fries, Salad and HK Milk Tea combo. Everything was freshly made. - Bolo Bun Cod Fish Burger: They are not skimpy with the cod! The burger has a big (almost as big as the bun!) and a small chunk of flaky Cod, coated in a crisp sturdy batter. The bolo added some sweetness, which went well in the burger. Most of the bolo is missing that flaky crisp bite, but that is the nature of making it into a sandwich. The edges were still crisp. - Wedges: fantastic! Crispy exterior, with a fluffy interior. The shape (looks like it is a thick spiral cut) lends well to that texture. - Salad: was fresh, with a non descript dressing. Added some greens and crunch (onions and pickled radish) to the meal. - HK Milk Tea: Great tea flavor and not too milky. There was a lot of ice though. Overall, a great quick spot to hit if you're in the area. I will have to try the fried pork cutlet next time!

I've had the Black Pepper Beef Noodles/ Spaghetti. The flavor and sauce was excellent & well seasoned. Lots of pepper and onion slices. I like the blend of Western spaghetti with the savory sauce. One issue was the thin-cut shaved beef in the dish. Seems like the chef folds it into the noodles because it cooks so fast, but I had a lot of underdone pieces which might have gotten me sick. I would order this dish again because the flavor was that good, but ask for the meat "well-done" or served on the side. Marathon Cafe is inside LIC Food Hall. Ordering the boiled chicken slices as an app was the wrong move. It tasted okay, as good as it sounds, but I don't think it was the best app option. The pork belly in mashed garlic was good, but I wish the cucumbers had been more chilled and fresh. I liked Uluh's version of this dish more. Next time I would try the boiled chicken in chili sauce or the crispy fish. The flavor and texture of the braised pork belly were amazing. The pork was tender and fatty. The prawns were fantastic and very garlicky, just how we like it! The rice was pretty good and actually had a decent amount of seafood, but I found the shrimp to be the same quality you would get from a takeout Chinese restaurant. The rice was also on the more steamed side, less on the dry side. All in all, I thought the food was decent, but the service was amazing and the vibes were also a plus.
