Plus, I always love mixing old and new items in my home decor because it just feels more personal and layered for me. That's where Isabella's Treasures in New Paltz came in around late Fall '24. I wanted my tree dressed in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I'm that person who puts up the tree at least the day before and lights it during dessert time to kick off the holiday season. To my surprise, Isabella's had exactly what I was looking for: vintage ornaments in the perfect colors- each one unique, full of soul, and priced reasonably in the $4 to $8 range. Totally worth it for pieces I won't find anywhere else. The shop itself is a cozy treasure trove, filled with everything from jewelry, textiles, to jewelry boxes- both new and vintage. There's also an attached room with vintage board games and clothing (though I'm not sure if that's part of Isabella's Treasures or a neighboring vendor). Isabella herself is a doll- super helpful, warm, and even gave me some background stories on the ornaments I purchased. It made the whole experience feel extra special, like I was taking home tiny heirlooms with their own little history.

I found a cool harmonica that I wanted to gift my boyfriend but was being indecisive about what else to get I remembered the bras! I went to check them out and then I stumbled upon the sale section and that's when the woman at the register basically ran up on me. She said to let her know if I needed help with anything. It was completely bizarre because it was clear she came over just to see what I was doing. There were a few other people in there and she passed by them and didn't ask them if they needed anything. It was so clear in my mind that she thought I was trying to steal that dumb ass harmonica or anything from that janky store. The bras were overpriced, the clothes were honestly hideous and not for anyone under the age of 40. The toys and books were ok but nothing really jumped out at me. Except this woman. It was a very uncomfortable experience and when I went to pay for the items (yes I got the damn harmonicas) she gave me full on attitude. No smile, very condescending "you're welcome" after I thanked her. Just all around bad attitude as if she was the one being followed. I would beware if you are a POC. I didn't get the woman's name but she was probably a SWF, pudgy and had dark hair.

When a friend took me in the store, I found that they have some wonderful healthy products. My friend was buying more of their black soap that is very good for sensitive skin. The store has organic shea butter sold by the pound, very reasonably priced, organic coconut oil for cooking and medicinal purposes, organic and other teas, jewelry, hats, many little daily necessities. The women who run it are very knowledgeable and friendly. I hope we can keep this store in downtown Middletown.
