On a recent trip I fell for a wool cap that will be perfect for NYC's blustery late fall days.

Plus, I always love mixing old and new items in my home decor because it just feels more personal and layered for me. That's where Isabella's Treasures in New Paltz came in around late Fall '24. I wanted my tree dressed in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I'm that person who puts up the tree at least the day before and lights it during dessert time to kick off the holiday season. To my surprise, Isabella's had exactly what I was looking for: vintage ornaments in the perfect colors- each one unique, full of soul, and priced reasonably in the $4 to $8 range. Totally worth it for pieces I won't find anywhere else. The shop itself is a cozy treasure trove, filled with everything from jewelry, textiles, to jewelry boxes- both new and vintage. There's also an attached room with vintage board games and clothing (though I'm not sure if that's part of Isabella's Treasures or a neighboring vendor). Isabella herself is a doll- super helpful, warm, and even gave me some background stories on the ornaments I purchased. It made the whole experience feel extra special, like I was taking home tiny heirlooms with their own little history.

He apparently didn't hold the same views as the shirt's statement and demanded that she have a conversation about why she would wear that shirt. She kept saying no, and he wouldn't take the rejection. No one else who worked in the store seemed to care either. If you only want customers to enter your store who share your hateful and ignorant views, you should post a sign outside stating such. Just because you demand a conversation does not mean you are owed a conversation, regardless of the "rules" you made up, stated OUT LOUD, and tried to enforce. ("you cant wear that and not...") Becoming combative when denied said conversation does not, then, give you the right to LOUDLY make sweeping and untrue generalizations about anyone who does not want to engage you in conversation when all they came in the store for was to browse antiques. (Maybe YOU are the problem? Maybe your unearned entitlement is what makes people not want to engage with you?) When told those generalizations are untrue, you continued to be loudly combative and commented again on the shirt. Thank you for ruining my experience in your store. Yelp readers: if you present female and want to be left alone, better dress modestly and conservatively before entering. Long story short:…read more Back in 2009, I had purchased a Good Cheer Company/Piece of The Puzzle Affirmation bracelet from a shop over on Abbot Kinney (Mystic Journey) and it was on me daily until around 2013 when it finally fell apart. $14 isn't too bad for something that lasted quite long, but the issue at hand was finding another one. I was fortunate enough to get the last one at the same shop that year, but fast forward to late March 2015, this one snapped and I was out of luck. I tried several local 'spiritual shops' and anywhere else I felt may carry such a line. I finally attempted to google almost any kind of name associated with the line, and Maglyn's extensive site was on the first page. I noticed a message board and was pleased to see how quickly they responded to customer's questions and requests. I noticed the message I had left myself a few months prior, but had forgotten to check back; as my bracelet was still in tact. The company had responded with an email address so I followed through to see if there was still any luck...I had struck gold. Realizing this was an actual brick and mortar shop in New York, the most helpful Rachelle and I kept in touch via email up to when she said the shipment had arrived. I called the following day and bought two of the three in their delivery. I sit here today less than a week later with two brand new puzzle bracelets, one going right on after I opened the carefully prepared package. When I make my way back east, I AM taking a road trip specifically up to New Paltz, NY to check out this gem of a shop and to thank Rachelle personally for helping me out with such a personal piece.

Buyer Beware. In my past 30 years of various home improvements and renovations, I've usually been…read morevery happy with the people and businesses I've dealt with. Marigold Home was a glaring exception. If you buy something in the shop, with a price tag on it, you'll be fine. But if you get into any ordering with them, WATCH OUT! I attempted to buy Hunter Douglas window treatments from them. I'd bought them for our apartment in Brooklyn and was very happy with the entire experience. The experience with Marigold Home was completely different. Most businesses, when you're placing a special order, will write up a quote, detailing what you're purchasing and how much you'll pay for it. Not Marigold. They don't want to give you that because they say people might take that and go elsewhere for a better price. It was my mistake for not stopping right there. I allowed myself to be gullible and believe they were an honest business. After they took my deposit and placed the order, only then, and only after I requested it three more times, was I given a printed quote. Even then, it wasn't as detailed as what I'd gotten from the dealer in Brooklyn (L.W.P. Home Products) before they'd asked for any money from me. Just to assure myself Marigold's price was somewhere in the ball park (because it had seemed so expensive right from the start), I submitted a request to LWP, without telling them I'd already had a quote, because I didn't want LWP to give me a competitive quote, just the usual quote they would give. They did so right away, and it was literally HALF the price Marigold was charging. (I called LWP then and told them what was going on. They said they could arrange a local installer to do the installation. If only I'd called them first, I'd never have had to have this awful experience!!!! But of course it was too late by then, as I'd already been fleeced of my deposit.) Most, if not all, Hunter Douglas dealerships give discounts off the "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price." Not Marigold. Not only don't they give any discount, they also add exorbitant installation costs ($400 for approximately one hour's work) and "freight" charges (around $200) that I wasn't charged for by the other dealer. In the end, I was so disgusted with Marigold that I didn't take the shades. I paid the deposit, which covered their costs with Hunter Douglas, their "freight," Maria's time in coming to my house to measure my 7 small windows (four of which were all the same size anyway), and left enough over for Maria and her husband to have several expensive dinners out. That was about $1500., but it would have cost me another $1500. to have the shades. It was a painful and expensive lesson in being gullible, but I will never make that mistake again. I will eventually deal with the shades the way I have in the past, by going to Home Depot and ordering shades which I will install myself. Unfortunately. There are other local dealerships for Hunter Douglas - and whatever other products Marigold Home carries - and I strongly suggest you check around before ordering anything from Marigold.

I have been coming here for 10+ years, always first before Lowe's because it is so clean and easy to navigate. Eileen seems to know everything about the store from memory. Andy and Brian don't sit still, they are always flying around helping everyone find the right stuff. I recently went there looking for furniture hardware to fix my bed headboard, right before the store closed. Glenn and Lou both helped me design a new bolt/nut setup to fix the pieces with stronger parts so it wouldn't break again, while using the existing drilled holes so it looks perfect. I was the last customer out as they were shutting off the lights and then I heard it was even Lou's birthday...stayed late to help me with a $10 purchase. This is how True Value earns the loyalty of their customers and takes the stress and uncertainty out of the average DIY jobs. Glenn and Lou could tell how important this repair was to me, and they gave it the same attention as a major renovation. It is amazing how cheap it can be to fix/maintain things instead of buy new ones. Take some digital pics and bring to the store and tell the crew to give you whatever you need to tackle the project.
