The owners have impeccable taste and carry the work of extraordinary artists. My husband and I were looking for a ring for me. For our private wedding, he had bought himself a gold band on 47th St. in Manhattan, and I used an old ring and wore that as a placeholder. We'd looked at lots of jewelry stores in Manhattan and NJ and while I saw some things online, I hadn't found a place that carried a wide selection of the unique works I sought. I wanted something that carried more romance than a solitaire or eternity band. Hummingbird was always mentioned by upstate friends and acquaintances, so we went there and I was wowed. It was hard to choose--until I saw a ring unlike anything I'd imagined for myself (I thought I didn't care for diamonds--hah!) and that was it. We were done. I have not returned since they moved and tripled their space, but I can imagine the wide array of alluring inventory. Across the board, the staff is knowledgeable and kind.

In response to the comment below about Winter/Sun Summer Moon's employee service...I was actually…read morein the store when the commenter below bought her Tano bag. I am sure it was her as, since I shop at Winter Sun often, I know Tano bags are infrequently purchased at the store since they are so rare for this area and expensive. I remember this "artist" was very nice, she had an adorable dog with her that the employees were happy to see. They did not bat an eye that she had a dog in the store, only fawned over him and politely answered all of her questions about the Tano and where it was located in the store. When she told them why she was buying this bag, they congratulated her for her recent accomplishment and were very friendly, as always. If there was any rudeness directed towards her when she asked for tissue paper, I am positive that it was all in her head. I have been going to Winter Sun for years and know that the employee she dealt with is new and a very nice, courteous woman. I was not paying specific attention to them while she checked out, but I have NEVER in all my time in Rhinebeck heard a bad word about this store, its employees and owners. Lila and Steven Pague are some of the nicest, most involved people you will find in Rhinebeck. They contribute to our local community and are lovely people. If someone asked me where they could buy a gift for someone in town, I would point them right in the direction of their shop, Winter Sun/Summer Moon. Their merchandise is unique, colorful and often a sweet trinket from another country - the very last adjective I would use to describe their service is "snobby." I am shocked that anyone would think of giving this store ONE star and especially shocked that I witnessed this commenter's perfectly fine encounter there. Please do not let this one (falsely) rude encounter sway you from checking out this gem in Rhinebeck.

My toddler went wild for the vintage Hot Wheels and other cars (back when they were solidly constructed of weighty, real metal) so of course we had to buy a few. We were there just as the winter holidays were gearing up, and the owner was so nice and didn't charge us for the Christmas ornament. We started a tradition of each family member having a special ornament every year and this was the kiddo's.

Owner likes to complain to Yelp when Yelp reviewers post true things about their experience with…read moreher and/ or her business in general that aren't positive, and then she gets Yelp to delete the reviews she thinks are most going to deter people from coming to her store. Owner replied to my first review I posted this week by denying our experience at her store, gaslit me and told me she was going to ask Yelp to delete my review because it was damaging to her business. Sounded like she was having a melt down over the truth getting out. I noticed after that 3 people conveniently posted on the same day positive reviews when her listing on Yelp never gets too many Yelp reviews in a short amount of time, let alone same day. Very Interesting. She must've told her employees, friends, clients and/ or followers about my review and asked or manipulated them into to feeling bad for her and going in to leave more 5 star positive reviews to boost her rating back up. Owner is damaging their own business by how she treats some people as if they're more trusted to shop there than "others" who look a certain way. Take some accountability and deliver a better customer experience to ALL people who come in and haven't done anything wrong, especially repeat customers.
