This store is adorable. I love their items upstairs and down and I think they have great prices and their dog is adorable!

A fabulous find! We stayed overnight in the area and by chance happened upon this fabulous…read moreboutique. One of my granddaughters is named Eden, so of course we went in. Came away with two sets of earring, a beautiful satchel handbag and a fabulous mens shirt. If we had the time, we would have certainly purchased more! The woman behind the counter was lovely as well! A true find!

I know I might get some flack for this review but here goes! I'm going to start off with the good…read morebecause I do actually really like this store and they have some amazing items. It's set up very nicely with lots of great items everywhere in all sorts of nooks and crannies displayed on interesting wonderful items. It's also pretty big so you can take your time to walk around and see everything. It's a fun boutique all in all. My friend and I walked in and the girl behind the counter was on her phone the whole time looking down and did not look up once. Ok, that's fine we don't always need a greeting when walking into a shop. However, there are lots of delicate items and I would think you would want to check in to see if the customer has any questions or want to see any of the items that are placed inside the display cases that have to be opened. There was silence until my friend asked if one of the items were vermeil gold or gold plated. She had no idea and was a bit taken aback by the question but then got up and went behind to look at some sort of book. So we figured she must be looking it up. We walk around some more and about a good 20 mins later we come back and ask her did you find out and her response was, "what?" This time I asked the same question and she responds that she doesn't know and she was just looking up prices. We never asked about prices. It was just so weird and obviously apparent she did not care and was not the owner. All I kept thinking was only if the owner knew how she was handling their store. We did end up purchasing items because like I said earlier they have some wonderful items but the customer service, rather lack thereof was just ridiculous.

They carry mostly women's clothing from the 60's-80's, and have a lovely range of stonewashed denim jackets that would make Madonna proud to cute and quirky minidresses that would look at home on the Mary Tyler Moore Show (okay, I sound old!) Admittedly, Rock Candy Vintage isn't the Goodwill or Savers, and you'll be paying quite a bit for the garments sold here. However, the quality is very good, especially for the items from the 60's and 70's, considering how old the pieces are. Feel free to splurge - it's super worth it, especially when you think about what other vintage stores that sell clothing from the same eras are like, quality wise. If you're ballin' on a budget, check out the affordable selection of unique enamel pins, iron on patches, and feminist-friendly tote bags, all which come in at less that $20, but are equally as fabulous as their pricier cousins across the racks. I can't wait to come back for a dress when I have more money! I guess I'll have to settle for coveting the enamel pin with the TV Dinner on it (I told you, I'm old!) for now!

Really off putting smell and filthy floors. Older white gentleman was pleasant that worked there…read more He asked my opinion about an item that he was placing in a rack -if I thought it was men's or women's. You can never tell sometimes. . I grabbed one belt and two cups and a bowl. I took to the register and the older black woman at the counter took a look at the belt and said it was expensive. She tried to charge me $19 for an item that was marked $2. The she said the bowl was not a bowl, and wanted to charge me her own price. I continued to state that it was bric & brag or whatever they call it and the price list was in the room above where I found it. It's almost like she doesn't want to sell it for the listed prices and wants to make her own depending on who goes to pay. Won't be back... On a side note- I saw her trying to overcharge an elderly lady on two resin outdoor chairs you get from Lowe's for $5. She was trying to charge $30 per chair. WTH?!! ‍ She is clearly uninformed tha these items were all donated and should be priced accordingly. Also, if someone is in need of something they shouldn't have to pay her made up premium price.

While I'm happy to report that this New Paltz Salvation Army store location remains among the few…read moreold school Sally Alley's left standing in the Hudson Valley, the long list of negative reviews do in fact reflect what is indeed a sad state of affairs for thrifting in general and Salvation Army stores in particular. Rude staff that turns away donations and makes up their own hours is a big part of it. In the case of the New Paltz store, I was never a big fan anyway as right off the bat you're competing with about 6,000 or so SUNY New Paltz students for an already scarce inventory of 2007 Port Jervis Turkey Trot T shirts, old moo moos and Mantovani albums (which, please don't get me wrong, I will happily rifle through such trash like a starving raccoon with rabies). But, your chance of finding anything really interesting is very limited. In general, it's just a smaller space that isn't even really fully utilized. However, at the end of the day it's probably somewhat helping college kids save some cash on clothes, furniture and housewares items. That's a good thing. Just don't come in here expecting to find a treasure trove of vintage clothes and quirky knickknacks. Most of that stuff's been devoured by moths decades ago or snatched up by resellers. If you're lucky you can snag some lame word art that say's "It's wine o'clock somewhere". And Mantovani records...they'll ALWAYS be there.

It's so cute, well stocked and priced, and has amazing gifts for everyone, from the foodie friend to the bearded boyfriend, to the dog mom or dad in your life. You'll be the talk of the holidays when you tick off your gift list at Cocoon! From the silly socks with literary quotes to the immense selection of unique cookbooks, and the gorgeous locally made jewelry, we spent a good half hour browsing around the small but well organized shop. The shopkeeper was pretty low key, which was actually a refreshing change from the folks in stores who follow you around or ask you how you're doing every five seconds. I'm trying to buy a present for my cat, Virginia! Leave me be! I hope to come back here for the slew of fall birthdays and special events in my squad for the inevitable present hunting trip. It's definitely the best place to shop for all my weird pals! :)
