When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. By the way, they offer a point system and get 'oink' ;-) points based on how many yards of fabric were purchased.

She has machines to sell and use while learning. She has a tiny area but very nice to find things you need and offer many types of courses to learn. The local stores next to her use her fabrics and have sewing done thru her and they all say shes nice. Who knew about this place. She does embroidering on her fancy new machine for pillows etc what ever you want. who knew. when you have a serger it is hard to find needles and people who fix things etc she even printed me out a manual a $35.00 cost usually, which I dint get with mine as it was a used one a friend gave it to me. I didn't see a lot of precut sets, but their five dollar a yard clearance section won me (and my bank balance) over. Really nice employees who greet you like you're a regular, and they have space in the back for classes. A friend of a friend raves about them, drives forty minutes just to attend so going myself is now on my quilting bucket list.
