"Help, I'm supposed to be in a wedding tomorrow and need to be in Connecticut tomorrow morning but my dress is too long, I tore my meniscus and I can't take a chance that I fall down the aisle." Nick was my hero. "We can do it but I'll be out by 3". Myself: I'll be there right away. Dress was done in 1hr and they called me right away. The dress is perfect. This review is very delayed, but much deserved. I went to this place this past fall to get four of my shirts tailored. I asked them to bring in the torso and sleeves. When they figured out how much of each shirt to bring in I had a good feeling because of how meticulous they were. They charged me $16 per shirt which even though it seemed like a lot I agreed to because they seemed to know what they're doing. Fast forward two weeks and I'm back to pick up my shirts. Before paying I decided to try them on an inspect them. They sleeves were a little tight, but I didn't think it would be a big deal. I then inspected the stitching and I'm glad I did. On each shirt was just one lonely thread! For $16 per shirt?! Are you kidding me? I tell them that I won't accept this lack of effort for how much money I'm paying them. The guy who works there tells me that's the only pattern they can do. Really? For a professional tailor I find this hard to believe. After some deliberation they agree to put a whopping one more thread in there. At this point I'm like "okay fine just do it so I can be done with this place". Fast forward again to today, and I'm undoing the stitching with one of these shirts because I've decided now that it's just too tight, and the shirt restricts my movement. No I didn't gain any weight. I stayed at the same weight for the past couple years. As I'm removing these stitches I realize on the sleeve it looks like they tried to undo the original stitching for some reason. They only did half the sleeve, and it was only on one sleeve. The only things I can think of is they thought maybe they should do original stitching and gave up halfway through one sleeve, or their sewing machine ate up the stitching somehow. So after $64 plus tax spent I have four shirt all of which have a stitch that I could have done myself in about 15 minutes. Every set of shirt, pants, jackets, and military uniforms I get I take to a tailor. Had this place been a good experience I would have come back dozens of times but no. I will find a tailor around here that will do good work. read more

Nick, the owner, measured me for free and gave me some great advice on getting the right fit. 2) I came back to get some uniform tailoring done and they did a great job bringing in the waist a little and making the seat/legs less baggy. In the years I have been patronizing Nick Valentine's tailoring domain, he has custom tailored suits, vests, pants, bathrobes, belts, jackets, hats and gloves for me. Whether it was affixing embroidered military insignia or indices of rank to a flight jacket or repairing a wounded leather glove, replacing a leather hatband, or res-sectioning 8 foot long, fully lined drapes, their impeccable work was always prompt and very reasonable in price. there seems to be NOTHING these people cannot do if it involves fabric. Nick Valentine should have a plaque on his shop door that reads: "Bring me your tired, your poor, the crumpled fabrics of your bursting closets, yearning to breathe free. A great tailor located in the generally scary city of Newburgh. I found this place when I needed a bridesmaid's dress hemmed and the alterations department at David's Bridal was giving me the run-around. So I picked up the dress and took it over to Broadway Tailors, hoping for the best. Two weeks later, I had the dress and it had been altered to my specifications. They did a great job, and charged me less than David's Bridal probably would have for the same amount of work. The staff is professional and kind. The shop is small - and smells slightly of cigarette smoke; but don't worry, your clothes won't - and anyone expecting a grand sort of tailor with floor-length mirrors and hovering seamstresses won't find that here. But the quality of the workmanship is good, and that's all that matters to me. Case in point: on the morning I picked up my dress, the shop owner received a call from a desperate groom. The guy had picked up his tuxedo from the shop the day before. The owner had urged him to try the thing on to make sure that it fit properly, but the guy refused. When he went to get dressed the morning of his wedding, he discovered that the pants were too big. So he called the shop an hour before his wedding in a panic, and the owner told him to come down and that he would fix the tux for him. How nice is that? Broadway Tailors saved that guy's day, and they can save yours, too. read more

I've gone to him for years cause that is where my dad always suggested. This is the second time my dress has been altered to the point it hurt me. The first time it moved the zipper on the side of the dress to the point it blistered my skin. This time the nick was brought up so high I had to have my boyfriend unhook it as soon as he got it done up. Both times he took it in more than he pinned. I wouldn't have had him pull the bench up that high. The only reason he is getting two stars is cause they were done on time and the zipper replacement he did for me was perfect on a separate garment. read more

Amazing people. Nick is fabulous. They did my wedding gown and what a fabulous job. They had to hem my dress, and the outer layer is lace. The edge is scalloped and you could not tell it was hemmed at all. My fiance had his morning suit tailored here. Beautiful job. I highly recommend this shop to everyone for everything. I have been going here for years. They took my junior prom dress I. For me from a size 12 to a size 4 and made it look wonderful. I have also brought them many dresses over the years and they still do a great job. The prices are reasonable. I will be getting married in Oct and plan on bringing them my wedding gown to alter. Highly recommended tailor experience gone wrong. I left the store hoping that I had gone to the wrong place. I doubled checked the address and phone number to ensure that I had been to the correct store. With great disappointment I confirmed that this was indeed the correct store. Here is my unpleasant experience. I originally made an appointment for 1 pm on a saturday and had to reschedule it. The person I spoke to was very accommodating and offered a 3pm appointment, which I gladly accepted. The day of appointment I arrived to the store at 2:50 pm to be told by a very rude man that the store was closed. I was taken back and quickly confirmed the phone number that I called. The man proceeded to agree that the number was correct, however no one that works for him would ever agree to a 3pm appointment. He did acknowledge the 1pm appt. However, did not address my "tardiness". Needless to say, we left very disappointed. In retrospect, the events that transpired were blessing in disguise. For, have I have left my dress at this store it would have smelled like stale cigarette smoke. I don't know where the pictures were taken that he displays on this page....but it certainly was not the room I stood in. Sorry sir I will find a tailor who honors his appts and has a better presentation than your shop. I would never recommend you. Its a 50 mile round trip for me to do business with Broadway Tailors. I have been having my clothes tailored or custom-made for over 50 years. From back when I was a young athlete right up to today, when I am an overweight, under-sized, broken-down old man - who still wants to look good. Take it from an experienced customer, you can't do better than Nick Valentine's Broadway Tailors. Very reasonable prices, great staff, warm personality, honest to a fault, and the epitome of old world Italian art & craft evident everywhere in his work. I've been to pricey tailors in Manhattan, unbelievably pricey tailors on Saville Row in London and good, fast and cheap tailors in Hong Kong. I know whereof I speak. If you go anywhere beside Broadway Tailors you're paying way too much for tailoring that isn't as good. read more

I took my formal dress to get taken in in the top and to get the bottom hemmed since it was too long. The hem was fine, but he took the top in too much and I hate to take out half of the stitching just to make it fit right. $70 down the drain (which is almost as much as I paid for the dress itself). read more

Amazing!! I had a bridesmaids dress for a friends wedding. Unfortunately I had gained some weight since the dresses were originally ordered. I bought an extra dress online that was in the same color as the dress, so that my dress could be taken out with the extra fabric. I currently live in NC, and couldn't find a seamstress down here to take it out. My dad called Nick and said he could do it in the now short time frame before the wedding. I extended my planned visit to NY (the wedding was in CT so I planned on coming up anyway). The dress was done on time and fit perfectly!!! Highly recommend!! read more

The owner was very rude and insulting. he didn't want to admit to the errors that were made. My alterations were not complete and the part that was done, was done incorrectly, along with the fact that the "brand new with tags" pants I brought in now had a big splatter stain on the back of them. He eventually fixed the mistakes, but I have never been treated so rudely anywhere. The other customers in there just kept their heads down while this happened. I don't know how he stays in business if he treats customers like that. He certainly won't have mine or anyone I know anymore!! read more
