Not only did Five Star Fabric House carry the fabric I wanted but the lovely, helpful store manager searched for extra fabric for me. He also was able to connect me with a seamstress to make the curtains. He was so helpful with measurements, was attentive throughout the process and even suggested a slight modification to the design of the curtain to improve them. The curtains are absolutely beautiful and well made and were made very timely. I'm extremely impressed with this store and will go again any time I need fabric!!!

When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. I watched​ all the ​ possible Youtube videos​ and decided that the machine was broken and took it there for service. I didn't pretend I knew anything about sewing or sewing machines. The person that I was dealing with could easily charge me for whatever she wanted. She looked at it, turned a few knobs and magically the machine started behaving again. She explained to me what was wrong, and how to take care of it. No need for service, no charge. I came back home and was able to finish my project. It's definitely a gem!

I grew up near here and remembered a lot of home made craft shops, and some antique stores. But, now a lot of stores are selling "made in china" mass produced wares like you might find at the Hallmark Store. The few shops we enjoyed included the candle maker, a potter on the edge of town, and an antique store.
