As we are one week into the Coronavirus Pandemic, I thought of the idea to sew face masks for medical personnel as the hospitals are running out of medical grade masks. I needed to purchase elastic for the masks and came for my first visit to Five Star Fabrics. The store is very well laid out and has something for every sewing need, from gorgeous trims, zippers, appliqués, and a wide variety of fabrics, and vinyls. Arshad was so incredibly friendly and helpful. He not only helped walk through options for my project, he mapped out a new sewers needs for a refinishing project. I can't speak enough how awesome this store is. If you love to sew, have fancy sewing needs or you are a newbie, he has all of your needs covered. I am a young fashion designer and this is the store to go to! They have everything and more. My friend Mr. Naqvi helps me with everything and always greats me with the open arms and knowledge. He even directs me to short run manufacturers and embroidery specialist to help with my brand. I've been studying over seas lately and every time I come back this is the first place I stop. Huge selection of top shelf fabrics as well as all needed sewing materials and parts. If he doesn't have what I want he gets it ordered for me to pick up in a couple days. I don't know his name, but the owner is a sweet, kind, lovely person who runs a great little shop that's always fun to browse. Old fashioned "mom and pop" stores that cater to people who love to sew and craft are few and far between, so I love supporting them when I get the chance. His prices are very fair, occasionally downright cheap, but the best part is, the shop is PACKED with fabric, trim, ribbon, appliques, fancy work, all sorts of goodies you wont find at Joanne's or Hobby Lobby, [and I love those stores} But they just don't stock the stuff he does. So whether you want to make a baby quilt or a 19th century Civil War gown, I recommend a visit....you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is awesome! It's a small shop but is packed literally floor to ceiling with every imaginable type of fabric, trim, ribbon, zippers... There are spools of beads hanging from the rafters! The owner is super friendly and helpful. Apparently he used to have a shop in the garment district for years. So lucky to find this place as I was waiting for my cat having treatment at a specialty vet in Clifton. If u can't find what u need in this place it probably doesn't exist! What a selection! The colors, the fabric, the lace!! I could spend hours there! We had a tight budget for an event and they helped us pick out the colors we wanted with fabrics that worked together but were in our price range and they all looked expensive and beautiful! And talk about personality! The two guys working there were charming, funny, and so very nice. Cannot wait to go back! read more
