The store has a great selection and customer service is excellent. Their policy of shipping samples with free shipping is helpful too. Each sample is charged $1. Prices could be reduced a bit. read more

Fabrics & Fabrics has such beautiful fabrics, and they always arrive in a timely manner and in pristine condition. I haven't been to their store yet, but their customer service over the telephone is very friendly and most helpful. I'm very happy I found them! read more

The fabric is gorgeous and the service is impeccable. Got my fabric right away. Customer service is so helpful.

This was the most stressful experience I have ever hat with a fabric order. I work for a theatre co. and buy fabric from a variety of places and some one had mentioned this store to me. Ordered my swatches...a little slow but not too bad. Fell in love with a fabric ... paid over 300$ for 4.5 yards far a stunning crepe back satin. when my order arrived i was overjoyed...until i opened it and realized there was a good 1/4 of a yard missing. my shop measured over and over trying to make sure we were not mistaken. after almost every hand had measured and came up short I contacted F&F to see what we could do my first attempt was meet with a disgruntled employee who said nothing could be done until the next day. I expressed my concern for our tight deadline to no avail. The next day I called again and after doing some math it was determined our only option was to return the fabric and find a different option elsewhere. i shipped the fabric back to them that day.....two weeks go by with no word no refund. so I called again to see what was going on..."oh yeah your package is here not sure why no one opened it"..... at this point I'm angry "Umm let me open it and call you back in five min." i agree and hang up. and hour goes by and another ....no call. I call the next day "oh yeah sorry i didn't call back we measured and it was the correct length though.....I simply say please issue a refund for the purchase. "I guess i can since you already shipped it back but i was the right length."- It was not. but i digress. We have put them on the unapproved vendor list and don't recommend anyone buy from them. read more

I've ordered from Fabrics & Fabrics for a couple of years now, and their selection and quality is impressive! The prices are great, and shipping is very quick! The photos accurately represent the fabric - I have never been disappointed with anything I have purchased from them. (I predominantly shop online.) The only drawback is I can ALWAYS find something I want to purchase - and only so much room in my house! read more

The store was crowded and unorganized. It was hard to walk through because of lack of space. They were friendly but one of the women that assisted me pretty much indicated I was on my own in terms of finding what I was looking for. read more

I my always like a kid in a candy store at Fabrics & Fabrics. I usually shop for myself. Today I had to select fabric for my husband. The owner as always was extremely cordial, took special care of my needs and assigned someone to assist me in selecting suiting fabric. They are and will always be my fabric store of choice for the vast selections, service and value. read more

From the greatest selection of fabrics to their excellent customer services this store is simply the best!

I came here for getting fabrics for my dresses because those outstanding Yelp reviews. They do have wide selection of fabrics which is a plus; however, I don't find their price reasonably marked. While some of their silk fabrics are $18 a yard, some cotton fabrics are more than $35 a yard. I have been to many places around the area, I found cotton fabrics range varies starting from $6. My seamstress has been traveling and discovering all kinds of fabrics for wedding dresses and various projects; she said that their prices are way too high. I wouldn't recommend this place as you can get something very similar with much better price when you walk in to fabrics shops nearby in this area! I didn't find the staff very friendly either. read more

Excellent quality fabrics and superb personal service. If you tell them about your project they're happy to pull appropriate swatches and send them to you. I've only dealt with them online. Someday I'd like to visit the store in-person read more

Just got back from buying my wedding dress lace here. When I first showed the woman my veil and said I was looking for Alencon lace to match, she took me over to the stuff in glass cases that is essentially hand-crafted by tiny French mice in a garret overlooking the Eiffel Tower and costs like $300 a yard. When I said that was out of my price range and asked if they had anything similar but less expensive, at first she said they didn't have anything in that shade but then managed to find two really perfect bolts in a slightly brighter white. She placed them over a cream-colored lining for me and - voila - perfect match. From there she helped me find the right satin for the lining and soft, light cotton for the slip. This woman was so patient, sweet and professional: she knew what I wanted and talked me through the differences in the fabric and prices, so I was ultimately able to find every piece that I was looking for and all within my budget. She even threw in an extra yard of the lace for the skirt because I was finishing the bolt! I'd visited their old location on 40th (it is now 270 W 38th St, on the 3rd fl) and this new spot is way better even though you have to go into a building and up an elevator: it's spacious and bright, and there's plenty of room for them to showcase all their beautiful fabric. Highly recommended for all your lacy needs. read more

My second experience there, I was being quite bossy asking them to pull out all kinds of fabrics and asking about the different colors for certain fabrics, but the sales people there were so nice to not mind that. Ended up buying some fabric, they give fashion students discount for fabric and usually give a bit more than other fabrics stores do. I'm attaching an image of fabric swatches they cut me to show how large they cut the student swatches. Def a great experience! Will go for more fabrics when I need them! read more

This review is for ordering online, since I unfortunately live in WI and can't get to the store in person. I love to sew, and I am trying to recreate a particular Chloe dress I love but can't afford. Googling "Black white floral silk crepe" took me to Fabrics & Fabrics, where I found the PERFECT silk for...$14 a yard. That is beyond reasonable. Joann Fabrics sells crappy synthetics for that price. I also found some cream silk twill with a novely dragonfly print, also for $14 per yard. I had to cut myself off there because I could have spend hundreds. All of the fabrics were so unique. I placed my order on Monday, and my fabric arrived Wednesday! What I received was high quality and I am very satisfied. Shipping was very reasonable, too. I would definitely order again, and hopefully I will get to visit the store in person if I am every in New York. read more

This place is hard to find. They are on the third floor and there's no indication from outside the building that they exist. It's a very nice shop, though, and they have tons of stuff and lots of space! Based on the reviews, I had high hopes that they would be able to match the lace on MY designer wedding dress. Unfortunately, there was nothing similar, so I picked another style I thought would go well with the dress. They have a very nice selection both of bolts and lace trim. The lace trims are all in a glass case where you're supposed to ask the owner to see them individually, but once he realized I was being careful and wouldn't rip them or step on them or something, he just left me to browse, which I appreciated. Like most places in the Garment District they are willing to negotatiate. The lace I bought only had 1.5yd left. They would only sell me the whole piece, even though I only wanted 1yd, but we met in the middle on the by-the-yard price. :) Now I know this place exists, I will definitely come back next time I need lace. This store is a good halfway point between Sposabella, which only carries the finest, most expensive lace (and they will let you know it) and the other trim stores on 38th st, which are cheaper but also lower quality. read more

One of my favorite stores in the garment district. Lace star has every color and every style of embellished lace that you could want. The store is beautifully laid out by color. The laces are hand-embellished with sequins, beads and crystals (I can vouch for this - I was in there once and actually saw someone gluing on the crystals...one yard at a time). They also have a number of 1-3" pieces of lace that are great for trims. I'm pretty sure they have applique pieces as well. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to help you with whatever you may need. If you have time meet Rachel - the store owner. She let me know techniques for sewing over beading and how best to sew embellished garments without breaking my needles. Almost everything I've bought from here has held up well. I did purchase some YSL lining that fell apart the first time I tried to use it - and it was already in my garment so I had to scrap the whole thing. Since the fabric is hand-embellished it is pricey. One yard of 2.5" belting goes from $40-70. Most of their fabrics ran several hundred dollars a yard. read more

Great company with amazing quality fabrics at very good prices. Highly recommended. Excellent service.

p.s. I just got a message from "Alex B." who of course has no reviews on Yelp and accused me of working for Lace Star and asked how much I get paid. Alex B. may work for Sposabella Lace since the owner, Frank, sent me an angry Yelp message a few years ago. I don't know this for sure so I won't update that review. I was just a shopper at the store and happy with the wide selection and service (from Pi). They have something in many price ranges and while I haven't stopped by lately, I would gladly visit again. read more

The absolute BEST fabric store in NYC. I've been to dozens of fabric stores up and down the block (yes, including Mood), but nobody has the quality and unique fabrics like Fabrics and Fabrics. Their variety is to the eye like a kid shopping in a candy shop. The owner Py and his sister Elly are so helpful, patient and kind that I'd even go out of my way to shop there. If you haven't been there yet, I don't know what you're waiting for- RUN! 100% guaranteed satisfaction. Thank you Fabrics and Fabrics for bringing the absolute best fabrics to the fashion world. Most amazing staff and MOST AMAZING novelty fabric. In general, they have a huge selection of unique high end fabric. The owner Pi is so nice, and is always around eager to help! The prices range from $5 a yard to hundreds of dollars a yard, making it a great shop for anybody! Even the cheaper fabrics are unique and one of a kind. You will not be disappointed! read more

I had a great experience here. It's on the 3rd floor so you take the elevator up. When I walked in the owner Pi greater me and I explained what I was looking for. They have a huge selection of fabrics with varying quality and price ranges. He took me back to the mesh and lace and explained that they didn't have a ton of stretch lace and mesh. I ended up laughing afterwards because I felt that they did have a ton of it. The other worker who cut my fabric was very kind also. I bought some great fabric for lingerie and will go back next time I'm in town. read more

I went to Lace Star in person for the first time about a year ago in search of high-quality lace for a formal dress and was pleasantly surprised by the selection in this store but also the PRICES. Yes, it is pricier than your $5/yard trimming lace, but the cost of their 6"-8" laces are incredible (often $25/yard or less). The first poster is accurate in indicating that there are some fabrics that range $100 or more, but there is also a selection of affordable and expensive-looking lace yardage. This feels like a Parisian lace store at a 1/3 of the prices. Great colors too! read more

I want to thank everyone (Py, Py's wife, and J) at Lace Star for finding the EXACT lace that matched my designer wedding dress so that I could have a train and veil made to coordinate with the dress. I could not have asked for better customer service, and they truly helped make my dream dress a reality. If you are in the trade or need really obscure lace matched for any reason, they will be able to help you. Excellent source for high end fabrics, lace, silks, brocades. (not as much on the cotton side).

I had a terrible experience at this store. I work in fashion and am always looking for high end, unique designs and quality fabric. I went in and was ignored for 15mins. When i asked very politely for assistance, I was answered with a roll of the eyes and sigh. I needed an opinion and expertise and instead, the sales person was answering people over my head, ignoring me and wanted to move on as quickly as possible. From the service alone, I had a bad taste in my mouth, but then they clobbered me over the head with prices! They are the most expensive store in the district and absurd because you can find similar if not the same for way less. It was absolutely ridiculous and they treated me like they were doing me a favor. I left empty handed and disgusted because clearly the sales people don't like their jobs. read more
