Went to check out a gift from Michael's as they usually have a good selection with decent prices. There are a lot of holiday items currently, school project supplies, frames, toys, yarn, etc. I had to ask staff where to find the markers I was looking for. They told me that it is stored behind the registers. I wanted a 30 count marker set but Michaels didn't have the specific item in stock, so I'm going to have to order online. The staff was very helpful in directing me and assisting. Michaels is a huge store and one can easily spend lots of time in here.

Michaels has always been my kids' favorite store, and we visit often to stock up on supplies for our crafts and baking projects especially when we're in the mood to make cupcakes. It's clean, well-stocked, and has everything we need for arts and crafts. While the prices are reasonable, the staff could be friendlier. When I found out they hosted parties, I decided to throw my daughter's 9th birthday there and chose the jewelry-making party package. While the price was fair, the experience didn't meet my expectations. They provided only one bead package for the entire group and didn't supply bowls for the kids to pick their beads, so I had to use the plates I had brought for the party. The room was small, which I understand is why the party was capped at eight children, but the materials provided were subpar. For example, the string wasn't the best quality they offer in the store, and they only had one pair of scissors for the whole group. When I asked for additional supplies, I was told they didn't have any, which was disappointing for a craft store. The party package included drinks, but only sodas were offered. Since my kids don't drink soda, I expected at least an option for water, but there was none. Thankfully, I brought my own juice and water bottles. They also assigned just one staff member to assist, which made it challenging as she had to help each child individually. It would have been much smoother with an extra helper. Overall, while Michaels remains our go-to store for crafting, the party experience left much to be desired. With some improvements , better supplies, more staff support, and a wider selection of drinks--this could be a great option for hosting kids' parties.

I needed to buy supplies for a scrapbook/photo album that I was making for my cousin to celebrate our dual 30th birthdays! I found the cutest stickers that matched the themes of our photos together. Everything was easy to find and there were plenty of decent options. The stickers weren't cheap because overall it cost me about $50 for only around 10-12 sheets, but the quality on most of them was great. The only thing I don't recommend is buying any of the plastic bubble stickers. I bought some plastic bubble dolphin stickers, but they didn't actually stick to the paper so I had to be creative. I really do like this Michaels location and they are the only location in Manhattan. I hope that they stick around because I don't love shopping for art supplies online. It's easier to see everything out there in front of you and they have great options.

This holiday season, please add Michael's 6th Ave location to your shopping list. Have to give a special thanks to Diamond, Sasha, and Ms. Angela whom are absolutely amazing. These lovely ladies go above and beyond to make sure shoppers are able to find all of the great items in the store. Loved all the amazing pre holiday deals. My visit was a week before the official holiday shopping season. I was able to get a great deal on holiday greeting cards, gift wrap to create magical holiday gifts for friends, colleagues, and family. Thank you Michael's for an extraordinary shopping experience!!!

Kazumi has been my favorite manager for years--our encounters are always joyful--and today I also met Tamaki, who had a wonderful, welcoming presence. Normally my visits are a 9-10/10, but this time fell short due to Kaoru's behavior. After I politely declined a tray in the crystal section, she sucked her teeth and muttered something under her breath. Later at checkout, Kaoru -- a woman with a bob haircut) -- ignored my question until I repeated it, tossed my receipt at me, didn't bag my items, and walked away when I asked her name, telling me "it wasn't necessary". I also couldn't help but notice I was the only one who looked like me in the store at the time, which made the interaction feel targeted. This was especially disappointing because every other transaction I've had here has been handled with care. As a loyal, long-time customer, I hope Kaoru's attitude improves, because the warmth and professionalism I've consistently received from Kazumi and Tamaki are what make Toho Shoji such a special place.

Located right across from Bryant Park, it's almost impossible to walk by without going in. It's usually crowded, but that's part of its charm. The store has three levels, each worth exploring. The main floor features an impressive selection of books, including bestsellers and new releases right as you walk in. The lower level is where you'll find collectibles, specialty pens, beautiful notebooks and stationery, unique gifts, even more books, and plenty of cute items that will tempt you to spend more than you planned. The book selection is excellent, although I have to admit the prices can be a bit on the higher side. The staff are always friendly, and checkout is surprisingly quick, so don't let the long lines discourage you. One thing to note: drinks aren't allowed inside, so you'll need to leave them with security before entering. If you're visiting the area or spending time around Bryant Park, I highly recommend stopping by. Whether you're a book lover or just enjoy browsing, this bookstore is absolutely worth a visit.

I've shopped at M&J for decades for sewing supplies: Ribbon, buttons, various closings (hooks &…read moreeyes and the like) trimming, stitch-on images, rhinestones and the like since the 1970s. My grandma--born in 1899--taught me to sew. She was a businesswoman; she and my grandfather owned a bar. He was the face and she handled the books. Stopped in last week and plan to make one more visit before they close. I'm not averse to buying online, but the great thing about shopping at M&J is that you just might find something you weren't expecting but realize you could put to good use. So yes, I think one last trip down there is in order. I shop online regularly and I'm pretty saavy when it comes to finding the things I need, but when it involves fabric and and other sewing materials there's nothing like finding something you had no idea you wanted/needed... including things for which you can't think of an immediate need but you just know might be useful in the future. M&J is a holdover from times when people bought clothing expecting it to last and assumed that they were going to keep it as long as it could be repaired, altered or hemmed up, not toss it within a year or two. And when clothing wore out, we saved the butons or other closings because hey--might need them one day--along with undamged fabric parts because hey, you might need them someday to patch or create something. I will miss M&J so very much because nothing beats seeing--and touching--sewing materials IRL.

They've…read morealways been one of the larger stores with a very broad assortment of sewing and design accessories--everything from hundreds of ribbons (may thousands), trims, decals, rhinestones, fabrics, supportive inner garment materials, buttons, hair/costume jewelry components, the list goes on. Agree with some other reviews in that it's one of the pricier stores though you pay for the wide variety--hard to beat their selection. The course of time hasn't been kind to local production. Back in the 1820s up until the early 1980s, when mass garment production stateside was booming in NYC, the garment district employed up to 46% of the city's industrial workforce. There was a need to design and purchase materials nearby, and the majority of Manhattan's midtown west side was dedicated to factories and design studios. Fast fwd to now, that statistic is much different and given the availability of online and global sources, not everyone needs to go into a physical store to purchase their needs. While many products have long moved to overseas sourcing, for anyone who's endeavored DIY arts and crafts, or even made any functional product by hand, it's much different seeing and feeling a material in person than on a screen. That's where in this past century, stores like M&J played a vital role in the fabric of the garment district. They are also a valuable resource to the numerous design students at FIT, Parsons, etc. During past decade many a longtime stalwart trim store have disappeared from the neighborhood and M&J is the latest casualty. If you are interested in sewing or design notions, now's your chance to pick up items at their going-out-of-business sale.

It was so fun getting to make our first potteries together, and the instructor, Iso was such a vibe; I loved her quirky uplifting spirit. She even made me a cute pottery to take home. She did her best to teach us the basics, but when there's a group of 9 people, I think it's just difficult to tend to everyone, so some people were struggling. I don't think anyone in my party left feeling satisfied with their work. It also sucked that a chunk of our booked time was allotted for cleaning up. It seems like that's the norm for pottery classes, but again, with that many of us, we wasted a lot of time just trying to take turns at the sink to clean up. Still, the experience was not bad at this point. We were excited to see the final results once they were glazed and colored. However, everything went downhill after we left the place. When I went there to pick up the potteries, everything was a mess. It was super difficult trying to find everyone's work admist a bunch of other potteries. With zero organization, it's no wonder they lost my sister's. So, they said they'll try to look for it and if they can't find it, they'll make her a new one. While it's nice that they rectified the situation by offering to make her a new one, that really defeats the purpose of taking the pottery class. Why not just go to the ceramics store instead? It would've been better if they offered to give her a free class to make a new one. At the end of it all, they couldn't find her work, so they made her a new one. But the process to receiving that new one took a while.
