amethyst cluster, such a deep purple
    Tate C.

Yesterday I went to this store for the second time, and I could've spent a lot of time simply browsing if I wasn't with company . Their selection is absolutely stunning from entomology specimens to taxidermy pieces, and my wallet was burning a hole in my purse just looking at everything. I ended up purchasing an amethyst cluster and a spider on a web with a fly in resin (or acrylic, am unsure), and I absolutely love everything I get from this store with their high quality items. The cashier was as pleasant as they were last time (recognized them by the colored curly hair), and I wish I lived closer to come here more often.

Great shop for unique oddities! There's so much to look around! Great shop. I did not make a purchase. Price points were great.

What an interesting store! If your taste is eclectic with a hint of passion for evolution, then this might be for you! When I say this store is eclectic, this is what I mean: you've got your range of taxidermy (from guinea pigs to lions), you've got your human anatomy kits, you've got your dead killer bees in tubes, you've got your resin casted Arthropoda, you've got your fossils, and finally, your crystals. The staff was super nice and very patient as I paced back and forth admiring everything for about 30 minutes. I would recommend visiting!

Perfect gift for a programmer, a bug

Well, I can say that being a Programmer I know something about bugs, but seeing a real bug was something I wanted and I got a big glittering multicolor beetle housed in it's own frame. This place is amazing. The amount of things available is pretty incredible spiders, lizards, butterflies, other bugs in frames or cast in resin including bones, and stuff animals, crystals, minerals just to name a few. The prices are decent in most cases but if you are bargain hunting then you should go online but you will not experience the amazement of seeing the bugs and other items in the shop right in front of you to examine and see the actual size. The staff is helpful and nice and don't mind you wandering around like if you were at the museum. so if you are into curiosity shops and looking for that perfect gift for that nerd then this place is for you.

Absolutely gorgeous little shop, the staff there were lovely. They have some really magnificent items lots of genuine fossils and skeletons and taxidermy. I travelled for an hour to get there but it was totally worth it!

They were doing construction outside, but it didn't interfere with our experience inside the store at all!

Before getting into this review, I'd like to take a moment to give my girlfriend credit for us finding this place. She is a HUGE biology nerd, especially when it comes to animals. It was her idea to check this place out and I'm so happy that she put this place on our itinerary! They have so many amazing things for sale here so I'd definitely recommend coming by to look around. The shop isn't small, but it isn't giant either. That being said, we spent almost an hour here because we were so fascinated with everything being sold. They have geodes, glass eyes, preserved insects, butterfly specimens, animal penis bones, etc. Definitely a cool place to check out if you're into biology or if you like weird stuff. We will definitely come back again to see if they add any more cool things

I like to visit the store whenever I'm NYC - mainly to ogle the human skulls that I hope I can afford to buy someday. It's also a great place to pick up interesting (and relatively inexpensive) trinkets to give to friends and family. The only bad part is that it's ALWAYS crowded - it's become a tourist spot, and rightly so. The online shopping experience and customer service is freaking flawless. I bought a little something to send to my redditgifts match and had requested some ridiculous shit in my comments/notes box during checkout. I didn't think they'd pay much attention to it. I was so, so, wrong. Ryan the Shipping Magnate, who is a god amongst men and has the patience of a saint and a really good sense of humor, indulged said requests (except gift wrapping, which they don't do...yet.) Check out the photos, as they say it all. The turnaround is super fast: I ordered on June 2, everything was ready to be shipped by June 4, and they kept me up to date regarding status. Seriously, so awesome. So next time you're in a bind and looking to buy something unique, this is the place to go. Now, is anyone willing to buy me a lovely bat skeleton hanging from a branch, under a glass dome? Totally putting this on my wish list.

Great place to teach your kids.

Stopped after seeing this on the website atlas obscura. It's like a mini version of the American Museum of Natural History but you can touch the exhibits, and buy them. My daughter loved it! Only critique: the items there aren't geared towards young ones 2-5, 6-8 so I wish they had a kids corner of plush toys or plastic dinosaurs; if nothing else after a visit there one can always use the experience for a DIY nature discovery project at home.

YF (pointing at the ugly crab specimens): This looks delicious.. have you ever ate that?! Me: Yay!can either steamed that or just use pepper salt batter and deep fried it.. Me: Grasshoppers and Scorpios!! Now I have to put those in the list to take you next time when we go to Thailand! The Evolution Store is an interesting place for tourist and locals alike... Some might be in awe to see all these specimens and admiring the wonder of live... For some, it might be a chance to see how their dinner or snacks looks before they were cooked... or how they looks when they are alive... oh those poor rabbits.... YF: You eat rabbits?? Me: I heard rabbit's head suppose to be a delicacy...

A really fun store full of great fossils, minerals, skeletons, taxidermy and everything in between. Friendly and patient staff, plus a really well organized store. Prices range from reasonable to holy hell that's cool and way out of my budget!

This is a MUST see while in New York. It has a crazy mix of skeletons, shells, animals, butterfly's, etc. I purchased several shells here. I accidentally found the place and looked it up later to find its one of the top 10 bizarre stores in NYC to visit.Ill be back!

    Bryan S.

This store was awesome. They had such a great selection of different things. They sell all kinds of bones, butterflies, taxidermy and much more. So much one of a kind or don't see often type of things. Walking though was quite the experience, I would definitely recommend checking this store out.

I still remember Pearl River in the early 2000s. Two full floors and the go to spot for anything and everything Chinese: snacks, dry goods, stationery, art supplies, home goods. Walking in felt like stepping into a small piece of China right in NYC. It felt layered, authentic, and full of discovery. Fast forward a few years and Pearl River moved to Broadway in SoHo. It was still two floors, more spacious, and if I remember correctly, it had an entrance on Broadway and another toward the back (I can't recall the exact cross street). Even through its moves, it retained that sense of depth and cultural immersion. I recently stopped by the current SoHo location. It's now just one floor. The layout is open and well organized, but noticeably smaller in scope. They carry a mix of items: a small selection of blind boxes, modernized gift items, Chinese art and figurines, cupware and fine plateware, a modest kitchenware section toward the back, a small apparel and footwear area, and a reduced stationery section. A small book section with more small figurines. They also carry a small but thoughtful selection of loose leaf teas, snacks, and pantry staples. It's still cute. The prices are reasonable. There are definitely thoughtful and modern touches. But if I'm being honest, it feels different. More condensed. More curated. Slightly Americanized. And maybe that's just nostalgia talking. I experienced what Pearl River once was, and that version was special. It's not bad. It's just not the Pearl River I remember.

The way in which she followed around my husband and I was absolutely comedic. A spacious and open store with us and one other shopper, and a mere 4 feet of space between the French woman and us. Staring us as we delighted in the first few minutes of discovering items in the store. After about 10 minutes it was still ongoing. She was on our balls the whole time. What a strange and weird woman, I thought. I turned to her, because she was right there anyway, and said "It's not like we're going to steal anything." Mind you, we were dressed nicely, and very respectful of the items, and even purchased something. It was my husband's birthday and I wanted him to have anything he wanted. After I confronted her bizarre behavior, she looked aghast and said she was just there to "help." Please. She was there scrutinizing our every move under the guise of trying to be helpful. She walked away, came back, and told me, "what a weird thing to say." No ma'am. You're the weird one for following us closely with very little space for our entire shopping experience. Like, are you having a bad day or is this just your personality? Anyways, we purchased our item and I smiled and said thank you and she gave me a stink face as I walked away. Funnily enough we were laughing about it later on with another local shop owner and he IMMEDIATELY knew which store and woman we were talking about. His service was exceptional but yeah, this is an ongoing theme at Clic! As soon as I red the other reviews later on I felt SO. VALIDATED.
