Unique and special shop with a nesting doll for everyone. The owners are helpful and very knowledgeable.

Kindest folks! Gave us a tour. What a collection they have! I did walk out initially to grab a face mask, as the place is moldy. But I bought some of their lovely dolls and cleaned them as best I could before bringing them in my home. read more

We were on a trip from NJ to upstate NY and passed this store. No one wanted to stop anywhere, but this place made us make a u-turn and proved to be worth the time. We were fascinated by the variation of dolls here. The owner imparted a lot of knowledge about the dolls and other products available. It became the highlight of our trip! Very different and interesting shop. If you are ever in the area, it is worth a visit! read more

Wonderful store very inviting reasonably priced one of a kind shop. Owners are lovely and well versed on the subject of nesting dolls

I've lived in the area my whole life and I've always passed the pink barn, and today I finally let my curiosities get the best of me. The store was otherworldly and the owner was very kind and informative. All of the nesting dolls are handcrafted and imported from Russia. Prices felt reasonable (although I have no gauge of how much a nesting doll set SHOULD cost). Definitely an interesting find. Would highly recommend if you're in the area!! read more

Nesting Dolls - Russian pins and antique plates - Hobby Shops Near Me - Wappingers Falls, New York

What a whimsical shop! Any type of nesting doll you could possibly want is on display. Fun, fun, fun!

I have been dying to come here for about a year and when I finally went, it was a beautiful shop. I have a Russian background so I thoroughly appreciated all they had to offer here. Beautiful dolls and other Russian knick-knacks flooded the walls. Then in the back room there were books, artwork, cultural clothing, dolls, so much from other countries besides Eastern European. The owners were very friendly, as I spoke with them about the Russian heritage they had such interesting stories to tell. Unfortunately they are only open on the weekends and are closed during the winter, but it makes sense for a small business such as theirs. When we purchased our dolls, she wrapped them up in cute little flannel pockets with ribbon, cute personal touch. Take the time to walk around and look at everything this shop has to offer, we spent an hour and didn't even get to look at everything closely. read more

I'm pretty sure there is no other place quite like this anywhere. Officially (judging by the receipt) called Baskets, this business is better identified by its lime green-on-fuchsia title - NESTING DOLLS - painted on the cottage like structure that stores just that..and plenty of it. The boyfriend and I were staying in this nowhere town for a long weekend, and couldn't help but noticing the shop several times during expensive cab rides and walks through scorching midsummer heat. On one of these walks, we finally ducked inside for shade, and found the owners Frank and Halina in repose on seats behind the counter, along with their little beagle, whom I remember as Lucy. Frank and Lucy exited the scene, and soon it was just us and Halina, who asked us all about where we were and what we were planning to do. She started giving us real local advice, which would eventually save our day because the heat index was not helpful to our original plans. Nesting Dolls is lined floor to ceiling in every manifestation of this curious collectible that you could ever imagine, in series of 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, and probably more. The dolls ranged in price from a few dollars to a few digits, but all are awe inspiring, hand crafted, and full of stories. There was one whole shelf of original Matryoshka dolls, and the option to paint your own (which I really regret I didn't realize until I read a brochure on the train speeding back towards the city). Some were neon, some were sparkly...there was a Halloween series with a black cat nested in a spider painting nested in a skeleton nested in a witch...a Yellow Submarine series, the outside of which was, yes, a yellow submarine with actual fins...a totem pole doll containing noble paintings of proud Native American chiefs...a set by a Russian artist that had romantic paintings of a tall ship at sea replicated on each of its five components...there were even peanut sized miniatures of seals, tigers, and so on, which boggled the mind, because how can you fit such tiny things into something that's already so tiny itself?? A back room had more random antiques and collectibles; a standout being a straw mummy-shaped casket. After really putting Halina through the grinder by asking her to open this set and that set and tell me the special story about each one, I finally settled on a 3-piece gilded medieval Catholic nativity doll. Go figure I'd choose that out of all the offbeat alternatives, but it was very finely made. As she rang me up, gently bagging the puchase in a flannel drawstring pouch, she also told us about a hot air balloon fest in Poughkeepsie and a river pool in Beacon (separate review). She also reminded us that we could take the train there. We strode outside but quickly decided that it was so hot that we'd rather cab it to Beacon than walk to the train station!! On the way back to the store to call a cab and wait in a climate controlled environment, I saw something amazing in the window that I'd somehow missed before: FIVE PIECE JIMI HENDRIX NESTING DOLL. Yes, this was really happening, and yes, he'd even been marked down. No one marks Jimi down and puts him in a corner. So before the cab even arrived, Halina had taken Jimi down from the shelf, dusted him off, swaddled him in flannel, and made him mine. It's good that the store's so out of the way, or I'd be like the cat lady of babushka dolls. And I am definitely anticipating my next trip to that neck of the woods.... read more

I went in here hoping to get a unique gift from an exotic locale... What I discovered was a ramshackle garage sale masquerading as a store. Even though the items in the store was garbage, it was also seriously overpriced! I am not exaggerating when I tell you it seems as if 70% of their inventory has been picked from the garbage. Couple this with the inconvenient parking and you have this eye sore of a business.... I hope the owners retire soon and sell the building. read more

I absolutely adore this place. They have a lovely selection of different dolls and other unique collectibles. The owner is so very friendly and personable, she always has a great story every time I stop in. Big bonus they also accept American Express. Best place to go for a unique gift idea! read more

A very unique shop but the owner is super nice and helpful. She talked with us for awhile and help recommend a cool gift

The worker (?owner) here was unnecessarily rude to us as soon as we entered, just in ANTICIPATION of the POSSIBILITY of us touching something. It was very off putting and I would been more than happy to turn around and walk out, but my daughter wanted to keep looking. For such a specialized shop, I would expect higher quality pieces available. Overall, a big disappointment. read more

No other place like it! I have been wanting to visit this place for quite some time and just never had the chance until this past Saturday. The nesting dolls are gorgeous! So many styles to choose from and prices that could accommodate any budget. There are items for sale other than nesting dolls which makes the shop even more interesting. The shop owner, Halina, is a very sweet lady and takes her time to tell you about items in the shop. Did I say she is a very sweet lady? I cant say it enough. read more

It was literally 6 years ago that I came here and I had such a wonderful experience that I was reflecting on it now and had to share! I was actually googling to make sure I could still visit. The place is pure magic from top to bottom. I had a wonderful inspiring conversation with the owner and can't wait to go back! I bought my Grandma some nesting dolls here. She loved them. Very beautiful and reasonably priced. There is something for everyone and really a site to see no matter your age, gender, or interests. Thank you for this wonderful store! I hope to see you soon! read more

these days everything is chain stores or Amazon. This place is refreshingly unique, special and a total random gem. We happened upon it on our way to a big high school cross country race and I am so glad I stopped. A treasure trove of Russian nesting dolls run by a fascinating couple who are as warm as they are interesting. I hope my life brings me to this place again some day. read more
