Everything a good craft should have and more! This shop at the South Hills Plaza in Poughkeepsie, will brighten your day any day, any second- hell, any season. I love to up my decorating game from Fall to the Christmas holidays and purchase faux Fall leaves, stems to Norfolk pine garlands to decorate my home. Faux greenery aside, Hobby L. also has a Craft dep't, Fabric+Sewing, Baking supplies, Art items, candle holders, beads and more- which makes it a nice starting place to get some inspiration and tweak what you purchase with your own add-on flair. Since Hobby L. only carries faux greenery, I personally love adding real stems and flowers I purchase from a few florist shops to break down that artificial feel. Even if you're not into buying artificial anything, Hobby L. is a must-visit any time of the year for any of your crafts. Prices are fantastic. But the other big take-away for me is these folks carry more craft items and have more variety than Michael's & JOANN. No offense. read more

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. If they're not absolutely certain, they will walk you over to someone who is. When I'm in the plastic model aisle I get a bit of nostalgia, thinking of all the models I made as a kid. It's also nice to see things that teach something, where a child can discover on their own. No more Gilbert chemistry sets with all the bottles of chemicals. Sad. There are sections for culinary interests, crafting, art, and interior decor. Cheaper than therapy, right? :p You can literally walk in here just for fun, browsing, walking up and down each and every aisle. It's a place to get lost, get creative and feel nostalgic. It brings back the kid in you and the things you used to do. From sewing supplies to blank canvases and paint to party planning. This place has all your creative junkie needs. There's so much to take in at Hobby Lobby ever since 2009. It may seem unappealing to the eye, due to the location and its visibility from Route 9. For those who are familiar with South Hills Mall, you'll know where it is. The supplies that are provided are endless from art to flowers and decor. Most of the items seen to fit in with everyone's interests, such as sports, quotes that are hung on frames, cravings on different materials such as wood, holiday selections (which are endless and seasonal), and also flowers. For a bonus, fabric cutting is provided. It's not hard to miss at all while shopping and with a big space like this, there's a chance of browsing for a long while. Service has never been an issue for us on every visit. They are always willing to assist and go out of their way. All in all, this is a great place to shop for gifts. read more

I really like shopping here. The prices are great when items are on sale which rotates weekly. Normally I have a great experience here but the cashier today was rolling her eyes at me because I wanted to know if I could get a discount on a damaged item. I wasn't rude or demanding but I felt like it was a great inconvenience to her and she had just come to the register and I was her first customer. I will still shop here because I like this store but I'm really disappointed with the service today. read more

So much for sales. We came in to buy a few things for our new home and came out with nothing. Not to say we won't return but what I wanted this day, they dont have like bathroom stuff they don't carry anything off that sort. Also they only have little tiny shopping carts to shop around with. (it's that a good thing?) To buy less stuff. Anywho, They mainly have frames, cups, plates and a bunch of Trinkets, which I love but just not for what I specifically came in for. What I did see was two storage baskets and a frame which totaled $91 dollars ..... aaahhh no! I put it all back because I didn't love it, I just wanted it thinking it was a good price. Do not have a picture framed and matted in this store. I paid $200 and was told it would take less than two weeks. A month went by and I had to call. Apparently their matting machine was down and would call when it was ready. When I picked it up, it was wrapped in plastic so I stupidly assumed it was OK. Today went to wrap it for my son's birthday tomorrow and saw top left corner was big gap between the glass and frame. Went to store and Associate was not experienced to work on it. While I'm waiting for manager to respond, I noticed the matting on bottom was crooked. Told Associate I will never come back there. Ended up fixing it myself. Hope it holds up. Hobby lobby is probably one of my top three favorite stores. I absolutely love interior decorating and switching things up at home! This location is always clean and well stocked. There are always sales. You can find some great arts and crafts but if looking for something in particular then I might suggest heading over to Michaels. Same goes for fabric. Hobby lobby has a great selection but definitely some limitations (I prefer Joann fabric). Hobby Lobby. Sounds like it should be a fun place, right? Well....only if your idea of fun is dealing with the most unfriendly and unhelpful employees on the planet. Every single time we come here we dread having to deal with them. Earlier in the year, while waiting at the checkout my daughter realized the item she had chosen was defective, yet it was the only one. She asked if she could have a discount and was told that the manager would have to make the decision. That's not unusual. What was UNUSUAL was how downright nasty the manager was. What is REALLY UNUSUAL is getting home and finding out that instead of the discount, the manager charged you TWICE for the item. What's SUPER UNUSUAL is when we went back to get it rectified, we were told by the manager on duty that only the manager that made the mistake could make it right and that we'd have to come back when they were working.. WAAAHHH?!?!????? We ended up there again tonight because my daughter likes their home decor selection. Again, everyone working here comes across as very unfriendly. I'm not sure who does the hiring for this particular location but you don't get that concentration of peculiar by chance. read more

Don't ever buy spray paint -) the Hobby Lobby in Covina. The can malfunctioned halfway through my project and stopped spraying and when I tried to exchange it they refused to do anything about it. So I have a half can of spray paint I can't use and a half finished project. And it was one of their most expensive paints, so now do I buy another can that will stop spraying halfway through? I'm basically going to have to buy twice as much spray paint for every project? read more

I love the selection of crafts supplies. I can readily find anything I need for any project I'm working on.

I am kicking myself for not coming here sooner for art supplies. It is a creative artist's vision of heaven. A huge selection of professional artists supplies including canvas, frames and easels. They even have Japanese calligraphy and watercolor brushes. It beats the Michael's in Newburgh for sheer amount of variety. It is well maintained, quiet and I can actually think over my purchases in peace. Unfortunately for me Hobby Lobby (or at least this one) has great prices and a much better selection than the AC moore I stopped at first on rt9. My issue was not even with the staff who were very helpful despite their weird staring and following me around the store. My issue was with the prominent sign on the doors stating that they they were "Closed on Sundays" so that their employees may "attend church or spend time with their families". By prominently displaying this sign to identify as a Christian organization they are excluding everyone else. Is it really necessary to insult any non-christian on their way in the door? They may claim that identifying as Christian is not exclusive but how is it appropriate to identify by religion in any context other than religious? Why it would be necessary to exclude other religions from crafts is beyond me. Needless to say their selection of Hanukkah and Ramadan decorations are lacking. read more

The cashier did not greet me or speak at all. She was impatient with the person ahead of me who wanted her $75 worth of items bagged carefully. She was breaking in a new employee, I think. The selection is good. The products are good. The customer service used to be good-- til yesterday. They had signs up for 50% off on a clearly marked item in Home decor and when I checked out the cashier (who was training a new employee)couldn't have been nastier. She curtly told me my item wasn't included. I asked to see a manager who comes over says no, not included. I still questioned them about the signs but they weren't the slightest bit interested in helping me. I made my purchase and find in today's ad, my item is on sale for 50-% off. Had they bothered to look as I had asked, they'd see someone put out the signs in advance of the sale. Hobby Lobby has finally made an appearance in the Hudson Valley area as part of the great South Hills Mall resurgeance. I've been hearing about this store for a while and all the good deals people get there, so I couldn't wait until this one opened to check it out. It didn't disappoint.....it's huge, and has a wide variety of stuff (i.e.: unlike Michaels or AC Moore, there's a good amount of actual furniture here). I was happy to see a decent-sized model and railroad supply section (even though I don't do the trains, I do use the supplies for other art projects). Their prices on most items are in the same range as Michael's and AC Moore, but I did find a few things that were a little more (but not really a big deal). Even though I really prefer Michael's, overall, its good to have options, especially since HL has some items Michael's doesn't carry. read more

I went to this store today . There were signs in the back side of the store displaying "Clearance" in 3 isles . The signs up and down the isles displayed regular price and the clearance price (Ex. Regular price $59.99 = Clearance price $29.99). I chose two large pictures . I also purchased a large cabinet . When I went to check out the Cashier rudely stated the pictures were not part of the Clearance . I stated both items were in the clearance section along with others . She proceeded to tell me that another customer must have just placed them there . I told her that was not my problem and there was also other pictures in the isles as well and asked to speak to the Manager . The Assistant Manager finally came over and said there was nothing he could do they were misplaced and walked away ! The Cashier was rude but for the Manager to act in the same manner was surprising . What happened to the theory "the customer is always right" ? Needless to say, I will not to returning . I recently went to the Hobby Lobby by the Poughkeepsie Galleria. There I found lots of sale items, which was cool. But, alot of stuff is overpriced, And, as I browsed I found a 50 sheets assortment of 'the paper studio' art paper on clearance. Still, it was a high price considering that Someone had opened the package--and I do not now if any sheets are missing! I asked the cashier could she ask the manager if I could have a discount and she was nice enough to ask him. But the manager was snappy about it, and said, 'its already on clearance so no discount!' Customers in his particular checkout line caught on to his nasty attitude and they started making nasty comments as well. I am tired of store employees' rudeness! Lets face it, nice products, nice discounts, but a NASTY ATMOSPHERE makes it so that it will be highly unlikely that I will go in to that store to shop again! Next time, I'll go to MICHAELS or A.C. My girlfriend likes to come here due to her being an artist. This store is super clean and it's just a general arts and crafts store, similar to Michaels but a little bit more upper scare in terms of merchandise they sale and the amount of products available. Other than that this store will get the job done no problem if you need supplies. read more

If I were rating the store for their selection it would definitely be 5 stars. Hands down the best variety items at decent prices. However the customer service and overall treatment of customers is horrendous. I will not go back after how rudely I was spoken to. For a store that prides themselves on being closed on Sundays to give staff time to be with their families and plays Christian music, I never expected to walk out of there with tears in my eyes after the rude, dismissive and condescending attitude that I was given. I will never shop here again! I purchased a frame as part of a wedding gift, I tried to remove the price sticker from the back of the frame and the sticker peeled a large piece of the back of the frame off. I brought the frame back with no receipt but willing to take a store credit or anything but I was told by the manager that they do not except damaged goods back (with attitude). Well last time I checked I did not purchase a damaged frame & maybe you should place your price stickers on the glass like every other store. This made me furious, no store ever has denied me a return of merchandise. After the manager was so rude for no reason I decided to call corporate, the customer service rep I must say, she was very nice & she even found my receipt! She told me bring it back and to the managers surprise, I walked right back in with an email copy of my purchase and still she went on the damaged goods rant and continued to explain the stores policy. Yet again I did not buy a damaged frame ... What does she not understand?! I think she finally credited me back $12.78 was easier at this bc honestly I was not taking no for answer. I think this store is so organize. I love how much decor they sell. Such great options. Today I spent over an hour there with my baby. I needed to use their bathroom that had 1 big stall. Unfortunately that one stall was... Not okay to use. I'll keep the gory details to myself. I told the someone that it needs to be cleaned as they prefer us to do. (A sign is on the door) 30/45 minutes later I go back in and it was the same as I found it the first time. I'm assuming a woman that was in the bathroom was in there worked there because she told me a couple of minutes later someone will take care of it. By then I was just needed to get out of there. I assume it was being taken care by then. I got what I needed and left. Everyone was very nice and pleasant. Just wish that the bathrooms were kept nicer. As a mother who needs to use the changing table or needs the handicap sized stall because of my stroller, it's important to me that stores stay on top of their bathrooms.
