I love visiting LYS . "Local " being up to 150 miles :) Last Spring, I spent quite a bit of time in NYC . So , I visited more than Twenty well known shops . I liked many , loved a few , and had much fun :) In the end , I feel very fortunate to live only 25 min by car from Cornwall Yarn Shop. They always have the staples of the Best yarns around - Anything you'd really count as "knitworthy " , it's here . Carol , is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Feel free to browse as long as you like , ask for help or have a question the help is right there . Fully stocked shop , lots of classes with some very impressive names and special events offered year round , weekly sit n knit with a very friendly group of knitters . Couldn't ask for a better local yarn shop. Great, well-curated selection of yarn goes far beyond the basics, but offers affordable every-day yarns as well. Everyone there is helpful, patient, and friendly--and that's not just the staff, but the shoppers and hangers-out as well. Prices are good, with great incentive program for shoppers (not sure exactly how it works, but I think you get store credit based on how much you spend), good class schedule, and frequent knit-a-long projects that appeal to a wide range of knitters. More than just a good yarn shop, this is a great base for a community of local knitters. A real asset to the town of Cornwall, and an excellent resource for Hudson Valley knitters. This yarn store is one of the loveliest shops on the East Coast. The owner and her staff are always helpful and eager to help you find the perfect yarn for your project. The selection of fibers and colors is a bit overwhelming yet I always manage to come home with something perfect. They also offer knitting classes and weekend knitting workshops. I had the pleasure of attending a photography workshop at CYS. What fun! I came away with lots of great tips and finally learned how to use my digital camera accurately. Gail and Megan were friendly and patient with several out-of-town shoppers (including me). They had a large yarn and pattern selection and LOADS of buttons. If you're not lucky enough to live locally, it's definitely worth a road trip! read more

I love it here! One of the nicest yarn shops I've been to. The shop itself is located in pretty little Cornwall in the Hudson Valley and is in a picturesque little house. When you walk in, you're greeted by sale yarns in the hallway and more yarn in every direction! Go to your right and you'll find yourself in a room full of some fantastic but affordable luxury yarns by companies like The Fiber Company, Shibui, Madeline Tosh, Woolfolk, Isager, and so many more! That room leads to another room with great and affordable yarns including one of my absolute favorites, Stonehedge Fiber Mill's Shepherd's Wool, in a huge array of colors. Little sweaters hang from the ceiling on little hangers and a whole rack of children's sweaters is in the corner. Great for ideas for your next project...The house keeps going - the next room has buttons and a bit more yarn, and all the way in the back there is a nice long table and shelves full of patterns! This place is so cozy and homey. The second floor has even more yarn and lots of beads. I live over an hour away but have been twice and will probably end up here again. This truly is a wonderful and welcoming shop. read more

Fabulous shop! It is a little out of my way to come to this shop and there are yarn stores that are closer to me, but this one is totally worth the trip. They have almost every yarn you will ever want in stock, and a fantastic selection of books, buttons, beads, and many many other accessories. Gail is friendly and helpful--always has great suggestions but is not necessarily trying to push you. She is great about allowing you to look and browse and staying back but very approachable when you have questions. She is polite and welcoming to everyone I have ever seen in her store, not just me--strangers don't stay strangers very long in her shop. Megan is a bit more reserved, and I have found her to be less knowledgeable about product; so when I have a very specific question, I will always look to Gail for the answer. Probably my only "complaint" is that there does not seem to be any method of organization, so it's always a hunt to find stuff. Also, be aware that this shop is not accessible for those with disabilities--very narrow spaces and there is a lot of stock on the second floor. The prices are typical for a nice yarn store, not too high or too low--you can find some nice bargains or really "shoot the moon" on your budget, it's up to you. read more
