My oh my, I never knew what I have been missing! I've always heard about The Beehive in Albany and how good it was but since I moved away for a few years, I didn't get the memo that there was an Abilene location. This place is so good, y'all! No reservations necessary so get there early, you will be greeted by really friendly staff and be seated in a wonderful and welcoming ambiance, temperature and lighting. Keep in mind, this place is upscale and I recommend dressing to the nines! Everyone I told that I had plans on going to The Beehive, told me one thing, that I "HAD to get the Long Island Iced Tea" so I definitely started my night off with one and WOW, the first sip made it clear as to why I had to try it. It was the best and it was big and it was in a mason jar, what's not to love? My appetite was at a 10 so I knew that I needed to order an appetizer and the pulled pork stuffed avocado jumped out at me from the beginning so I "had" to try that too, lol. It was glorious, see pictures below. I can speak from experience, it was as good as it looked! Meanwhile, our server was great and I feel like I need to give her credit on here as well. Very professional, adamant, and helpful and much appreciated. I proceeded to order the Ribeye, cooked medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Visited this while in town for a training. Such a lovely place. We were seated promptly on a Wednesday night. It wasn't super busy, but there were certainly enough folks in the restaurant. Our waitress was super attentive, as were the other waitresses that helped her. They came to check on us often and were just so helpful. I ordered the 1/2 lb mushroom bleu cheese burger. It came with fries. It was an awesome deal at about $10. The burger was super hearty. The bleu cheese was melty and the mushrooms meaty. I loved the fries. They were thick, almost like steak fries and perfectly seasoned. We'd had some bread with our order, and I'd munched on a bag of puppy chow before dinner otherwise I'd have eaten the whole thing, but it was very filling! The prices on the menu were great!!! Let me start off by saying food was amazing and service was excellent. My Husband and I ventured out to have our first date night with the baby. We where sailing smooth until the entree arrived and baby decided to pitch a fit. A man whom I can only assume was the owner came by and asked how dinner was. Went for a romantic night out with the husband as he was visiting me while I was working in Abilene. I was told this was the nicest place in town so we went - great food but not romantic. Portion sizes were great and the food was very creative. The service at the bar was fast and friendly but the drinks were a little too strong. The only reason for a less than perfect score was the atmosphere (very cramped and rustic - not what you should expect at a fine dining establishment). I had to try this place if for no other reason than it had "Saloon" in its name and who doesn't want to cowboy up and belly up to a bar deep in the heart of Texas (the other excellent reviews didn't hurt either)! For about $16.00, I ordered a mushroom bleu burger, an appetizer of batter fried cauliflower, and a giant diet coke (because you have to cut calories somewhere, right?). When the food started coming, I quickly realized that I way over ordered...everything was Texas sized! They also brought out an initial selection of fresh baked delicious buttery rolls. My bride and I recently celebrated it 33rd anniversary at the Beehive Restaurant. I've eaten a lot of steaks in my lifetime. I don't remember many, other than ones that I've cooked myself. The 10 oz. Filet I ate... and the one my bride ate... were 2 of the best steaks we've ever tasted. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, mine was medium-rare, that filet will be remembered as one, if not the best. Second visit. I've been hearing for seemingly forever that the burgers here are the best in town, and wasn't let down with the Cheeseburger. The price alone makes it a steal (7.50) although they did bump up the cheese price by fifty cents without telling me when I asked for Blue Cheese. That said, the kitchen here knows how to cook cow; the beef was plenty juicy and beefy tasting, while the burger wasn't want for cheese. Actually the blue cheese was amazingly melted, forming a kind of fondue-layer of funk on top of cow. I believe that exact phrase can be found next to "bovine" in the dictionary. I feel like the fries are pretty worthless and didn't eat more than a few. They are just too thick and greasey, and really were kind of dull and bland despite what looked like quite a bit of seasoning. I was definetly bummed, but the burger alone is worth it. read more

Fantastic spot in downtown Abilene! A must if you're looking for great food while in town. We had a group of 10 and got in with 5-7 min. They had a spot in the restaurant that was perfect for a couple of groups our size. Atmosphere was very nice. Upscale in appearance. Service was great. Had drinks, appetizers and bread quickly. We had the combo appetizers which had fried mushrooms, zucchini, cauliflower and onions. Really good. We had many different plates ordered from shrimp scampi to steaks to burgers to giant chicken fried steaks. I had the chicken kabob. Please see my pic. It was wonderful. I decided the Beehive would be my last review of 2017, and it's also review number 800! Yep, I planned it that way. I've been to the Beehive for lunch and dinner. There is usually a wait both times unless you get there early. They are popular. The only complaint I have ever had is service can be a little slow because they are always so busy. Now the good stuff, the food. The chicken fry is huge, then they give you this tiny bowl of gravy. More please! It's very tasty, and there's plenty to take some home. The pork chops are seasoned and cooked perfectly. So good. The sides have always been good, except the mashed potatoes were kind of bland and cold on the last trip. Try the asparagus. I have not tried a steak yet. If it's as good as everyone says, maybe 5 stars? We'll see. I personally don't drink, but everyone says the Long Island Iced tea is fantastic. The reason for 4 stars is extreme lack of flexibility with the staff. They will not seat you until your entire party has arrived (it doesn't matter if it's 2 or 10). This makes it very difficult to host any sort of group or interview. I understand that need for this policy but the lack of flexibility for repeat customers (I eat here 2-3 times a month for lunch) is crazy. The service is great. The food is above average. The chicken fried chicken and philly cheese steak are fantastic. Sadly the cheese steak sells out if you aren't there by 11:30ish. I don't understand where the good reviews are coming from, the roadhouse serves better food. I love the Beehive in Albany, but this place shouldn't even have the same name, there's no comparison. Our hostess and waitress would probably be more suited at a Denny's. Honestly, I'm not so sure the person who cooked my food didn't come from Denny's. The food is not good quality and they've priced it as if it is. Not knocking Denny's, but if your going to give cheap cafe quality, maybe don't charge steak house prices. We are from California , and I have to say after eating here tonight I have been spending a way to much on crap steak. OMG this was the most delicious butter soft and juicy filet mignon I have ever had. My husband had the avocado pulled pork appetizer. And my son had the bacon burger and they both loved their food.
