Same great food! It's truly Abilene's only old style diner. I've been coming here at least 53 years, maybe longer. When I was young and pouring concrete with my dad, we would leave the job every afternoon and come here for coffee. When I started working for Jack, same thing. Coffee every afternoon. Dixie Pig is THE place for breakfast or a lunch special. Today I had chicken fry, green beans, jalapeno corn, a huge roll, and dessert, for $10. Heck of a deal. But it's cash or check only. Dixie Pig was pointed to by friends, who said that it was a great place to have breakfast...and that was two years ago. Finally, my wife and I went there to see how ''great'' it really was. It was ''Old Texas'', as we remembered our youth...she, in Corpus Christi, and I, in Andrews. Homey, anxious to please the customers, and good solid breakfasts. The main difference that we could recall was that there was no Home Fries in the old days. We naïvely ordered a biscuit, each, and were astonished to find a huge biscuit WITH gravy. On every table there was a bottle of Tabasco Sauce...eggs over easy were done to perfection. My bride got bacon, and I ordered sausage...neither of us will change the meat order the next time...we each think that our particular orders were superb. U walk in and have a seat wherever an open table happens to be. A cranky waitress comes over and takes your order and in a few minutes you have some great breakfast food. The wife and I decided to come here for breakfast. When you walk in the atmosphere gives you the hometown cafe vibe. It's relaxed and has the hometown feel. The entire restaurant decor is pigs. It's great, the wife loves the set up. The waitress was extremely friendly and immediately acknowledged that we were there and told us to sit anywhere. Once seated she immediately brought us menu's and took our drink order. We both had breakfast. The wife had one egg over medium with bacon, hash browns and toast. I had 2 eggs over medium, 3 strips of crispy bacon, hash browns, toast and a side of one biscuit with gravy. Food came out fast, hot and just the way we ordered it. Food taste was amazing. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time eating out somewhere. We will definitely eat here again. You can't find a restaurant with a family hometown atmosphere. They only take cash no credit cards but there is an ATM close by. If you haven't tried this place, man are you missing out. Plus they serve breakfast all day if that's what you want. I Saw this little spot on my Saturday routined route. They only take cash and checks, so please be prepared to have either of those!!. I sat at the counter, because it was a wait for any other spot in the building! The staff was some of the absolutely friendliest people I've met in Texas! Customer service is a winner!! It was so good I came back a second time before writing this review! My waitress was Michelle! She was exceptionally nice and hospitable! I had the pancake, bacon and eggs! Tasty. With a side hash brown... I should have left it off, because it was way too greasy! The second meal I had a breakfast burrito with their home made salsa and a side homemade biscuit. Both were pretty tasty. It was super packed both times! The most impressive moment of my first experience was seeing the owner, I think her name is Betty if I my memory serves me correctly (which a fun fact is in its entire existence the place has only had 2 owners) was pitching in from taking orders, busting tables, serving customers. A true Abilene staple. 90 years with family running most of the business include a 11 year old great granddaughter running the cashier. Food was very culturistic of the city and the name "Dixie" with no negative connotations here. No fruit for your oatmeal but it's still fun to ask. Glad we got recommended here. Went there with a friend for a breakfast because I used to go there when I was young and I am 73 now. Was an absolutely awful disappointing experience with the eggs being instant with no flavor. The bacon was greasy, not crispy and tasted like it was from a boar hog. The hashbrowns were so tough. You couldn't eat them. The place is old the bathroom stink, and it needs to go. read more

I love supporting local businesses whenever I can and they're usually pretty fantastic. Driving up to the Dixie Pig, I thought to myself "this is going to be an amazing breakfast!" but that all changed as soon as we walked in. It wasn't the appearance of the place or the lack of customers, it was the two servers. Their lack of charm or enthusiasm was really crappy and not the way two weary travelers want to be treated. Oh well, at least the food should be good in this little old place, right? Wrong. Totally nondescript. I honestly can't think of one positive including the coffee (not very hot and weak). We were in town to drop off our student at the Hardin-Simmons U. We stopped at the local Dixie Pig for breakfast. We were greeted and told we could sit at any table or booth. We were served by the same elderly lady who made us so at ease by her southern hospitality. The menu was easy to understand and order from. My wife and daughter ordered the vegetarian omelette while I ordered the standard two eggs over easy with bacon and hash browns. The meal came with biscuits and gravy. I also had coffee while my sweet ladies had tea. Everything was perfect and the same elderly lady came back time and again to top up our tea and coffee. She may have looked elderly but you won't have thought that by the speed and grace she served us. My thanks to the establishment for a wonderful experience of southern hospitality and charm. The restaurant is ok.. very busy when we arrived. Was a little confused. The first time ever being here, walk up to the counter, waiting to be seated, no sign or anything, it's a seat, yourself time deal. Finally, found spot ordered about an hr later got our food. Pancakes were on the drier side, had to use plenty of syrup. They're a little stingy with their coffee creamer. A little overpriced for the quality of food. Service was ok, not great. This is the kind of long-established, home-cooking diner you really want to love. I don't. The breakfast was good but nothing the least bit special. Two things put me off. #1. They don't take cards. Strictly cash. If you don't have cash, they have an ATM Machine at the front door that you have to squeeze past if someone's using it. I'm sure they get a cut of the exorbitant withdrawal fees. #2. NO SUBSTITUTIONS it says in bold face across the top of the menu. Really? Come on. Some people have dietary restrictions. How hard is it to have a few options? The chain restaurants do it, even the ones that are nothing special (Denny's, IHOP, etc). This is certainly not a customer friendly way of doing things. In short: nothing special, with a bit of an anti-customer stance thrown in. But speaking of customer-friendly, I have to say our waitress was very friendly and efficient. But if you're looking for diner-style food, there's really no reason to pass a Denny's, IHOP, Waffle House, etc. just to come here. read more

Went today around 9-10am. It wasn't crazy busy at all but just steady like any normal restaurant. For one the waitress was sooo loud and would get customers attention by screaming across the way rather than walking up to the table and speaking like a normal person. It was honestly super annoying and just plain unprofessional/lazy. Secondly, we waited a whole hour to get 2 simple meals. I'm almost convinced that we were forgotten but i can't tell you for certain. I wouldn't come back because i just don't want to hear somebody yelling across the restaurant while I'm trying to eat or talk to my company. Yikes.. read more

This place is crowded. They don't take credit cards. They aren't open for dinner. And despite all those complaints I still love this place. They have the BEST breakfast in all of Abilene. The Mr. pig is made with 3 eggs, sausage, bacon , onions, and I think it was tomatoes but I can't remember for sure. oh and I always order salsa on the side and spoon it over my omelet/ hash browns. DELICIOUS!!! Biscuits are always fluffy and hot. Probably been here a handful of times , what I love about it ...is that its a family restaurant with consistently good food and sweet ladies that love to take care of you .
