I'm not sure why this place is listed with $$$$. It's not experience at all, maybe $$ is more appropriate. We accidentally came here on a road trip and arrived hangry. Food came out super fast and we were so happy we stumbled in. Obviously a locals hang out and they do run out of things, as we arrived in the later side of lunch ie cole slaw, but they substituted a salad, which was fine. I would say the catfish was a huge hit and the grilled chicken was juicy and flavorful. I'm kinda weird about hush puppies, they're not my thing. As they can often be dry and under seasoned, but I couldn't stop eating these ones! We'd love to stumble in another time! read more

I love destination restaurants. I like going to restaurants that are a 15 to 30 minute drive from my house. You get to talk and catch up on the drive there, have a great meal and relax for a bit, then try not to fall asleep on the drive home. What a perfect evening! DVB is about 20 miles from home. Perfect. They have a nice big dining room with a/c, or step outside when it's not too hot. Two large covered patios, both facing the covered stage for live music on weekends. Yes! Also lots of uncovered picnic tables for looking up at the stars. Check Facebook for music dates and times. Now the food. I've only tried the chicken fried steak, several times, cause I like it! Onion rings were really good. For dessert, definitely the buttermilk bars. I've tried 3 different flavors and all were so good! I talked with the owners when it wasn't quite so busy, and they really enjoy what their doing. Nice people. So, pick a night when there is some live music and come on out to the country. This is a "order at the register and they bring it out to you" kind of place. Casual and laid back and very handy for the locals. Mostly fried options on the menu so don't expect to eat healthy. I'm fine with that, just wish it had been hand-breaded or fresh from the fryer. My chicken tenders and onion rings were not hot or crispy in either case. My husband enjoyed his chicken fry with mashed potatoes and gravy. He said it hit the spot. The buttermilk bar dessert was homemade. I thought I got the vanilla flavor but it seemed like coconut to me. Prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. I would go again if I was in the area or for the live music but would get a burger or a patty melt. read more

Good food, great atmosphere, affordable prices! Got the medium catfish with 3 pieces of catfish, fries, coleslaw, beans, hush puppies, and delicious tartar sauce (not from a bottle). Food came out quick and hot! Catfish were large portions that were VERY good! Coleslaw and beans were delicious also, I didn't feel like either of them came from a "gallon jug". I should have gotten a dessert but maybe next time. They looked delicious though. We sat outside with some friends at the picnic tables to listen to Anaka play some live music. (Great voice, sound, and song choices!!) So relaxing and enjoyable. Perfect spot for a Texas fall evening. For two people with entrees and teas (with free refills) we only spent about $20! This is an oasis in the country. The owners are actively involved every moment they are open. I have eaten there at least a dozen times over the last year I have never had any dish that wasn't exceptional. You have to try this place anytime you are around hwy. 36 & 604. Such a let down considering the day we had a Denton Valley Farms. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and I loved the atmosphere! However, the food left little to be desired. We had a party of 3 and ordered two catfish plates and one "grilled" chicken salad. Our sides included coleslaw, red beans, French fries and onion rings. Not one thing was hand battered, which was extremely disappointing. Even the French fries were not hand cut. For $10 the chicken on the salad tasted extremely processed and consisted of only iceberg, two slices of tomato and a few black olives. The coleslaw was obviously from a gallon jug. Someone in our party made the comment they could make the drive to Sams Club and purchase everything that was on our plate. It was also odd to have to purchase a beer from a different register. read more
